I think I read that in the mid 90s Charles Hailey was visiting Randy White's Restaurant. Hailey started getting belligerent, and he and Randy White "squared off." According to the book "Boys will be Boys" -- White basically decked (and knocked out) Hailey.

Randy White is a bad dude . . . .

If true, thats great!

OT, but does your username reference a Jimmy Johnson statement during training camp. I ask because that's one of my favorite one-liner from him.

I know full well the limitations of a 59 year old human male. I've also never met a 59 year old who looked like Randy White.

I GURANTEE that he still benches more today than Costa ever has in his life.

Once again your mouth has written checks your butt can't cash. If I'm not mistaken, Costa set several weightlifting records at Maryland. You know, where Randy White attended college. Don't get me wrong. Costa will never be half the player White was, but the statement about his bench press was a dumb one.

Yes it does. When I chose a username, I wanted something that only serious fans of the team would understand.

Don't know if it was successful, but I'm used to it now.

I would love to read the full story on that... Do you remember where you read that?

If Phil Costa can consistently hold his ground and pass block 59-year old Randy White, I'll feel better about him blocking for Tony Romo in 2012.: :D

Here is the full story: pp. 277-278 from BOYS WILL BE BOYS by Jeff Pearlman

"Holmes agrees drugs were prevalent in the lives of too many Cowboys. So, for that matter, was alcohol, which under Jones's and Switzer's new no-holds-barred approach flowed with the ferocity of Victoria Falls. If you were a Cowboy who didn't get in at least one embarrassing brouhaha, you were either an outcast, a Troy Aikman follower, or a purveyor of the extreme straight and narrow (like Bill Bates, Jim Jeffcoat, and Chad Hennings). One of the most memorable rowdy moments of the '94 season took place on a Friday night at Randy White's Grill and Bar, owned by the legendary Dallas defensive lineman. With the scent of alcohol wafting from his pores, Charles Haley rode his Harley-Davidson through the front door and into the eatery's lobby. Just days earlier Haley had thrown a world-class tantrum in the Valley Ranch training room after someone had tossed his dominoes into the garbage. That was nothing compared with an incident from the previous training camp, when Haley approached the Pathfinder belonging to rookie linebacker Anthony McClanahan, grabbed its underbelly, and single-handedly flipped the vehicle upside down. "Charles could snap at any given moment," says Robert Jones. "You never knew when that volcano would erupt." Now here he was, on a motorcycle in the middle of the lobby, revving the engine to ear-numbing decibels. Staring on in shock were Jerry Jones and Tuinei, who happened to be dining. An aghast Jones approached Randy White. "Whatever you do," he whispered, "don't let Charles ride that thing out of here." White wrapped his arm around Haley and said, "Listen, don't worry about driving home tonight. We'll get a car, a limo-whatever it takes." Haley shoved the restaurateur in the chest and drew back his fist. "And Randy White is the only person crazier than Charles," says Jody Dean, the Cowboys' entertainment coordinator and a witness to the altercation. "He just cold-cocked Charles. I mean, knocked him right out. Then they loaded Charles in the car and took him home." Dean laughs. "Typical stuff." :laugh2:

When you opened a 1980 Topps Randy White, it said "All-Pro" at the top. This Dallas defense could use Randy White. I'll tell you that right now. He was simply a great player and very nasty on the field. I wore # 12 and # 33 growing up, but I knew who 54 was, too.

I'm glad Phil Costa is working with Randy White, and I'm glad Randy White still pulls for the Cowboys. The team led by Danny White in the early 1980s is becoming more accomplished by the year. Three straight NFC Championship Games would sure be nice about now.

Costa had some struggles in his second year. GIVE THE GUY A FREAKING BREAK! The guy works his tail off non-stop. He's smart and since he got here he's taken every opportunity to learn as much as he can about how to get better. Talked Ratliffe's ear off and worked on every scrap of info he could get to improve. Now he's got the ear of a hall of famer to pick up minute details to get better. He's got one of the best technical Offensive Line minds with Callahan and the Cowboys signed a couple of massive guards to work beside him. Give him a chance. It's this kind of commitment in a player that we need.

I for one am very interested to see what happens in training camp. Effort and work ethic counts for a great deal at that position.

And hell, if Randy White thinks enough of him to spend time working with him, then I challenge any dissenter on this board to walk up to the Manster and tell him he's an idiot for wasting his time.

Come on!! Any takers?

Wow, thank you for that excerpt. I've always been amazed at Randy White, and what he did as a player. In my mind, Dallas has enjoyed hall of fame legendary defensive lineman, first Bob Lilly (before my time), Randy White, and now (sort of) Demarcus Ware. Although Ware lacks the grittiness that White had. This story goes on top of the NFL boxing fight that Randy White was in to confirm his practically superhuman feats.

I can't say enough how I appreciate this story. Thanks!

I love obscure references which is why I have always liked your username. The only one here I like better is "Arch Stanton". Only a true fan of Spaghetti Westerns would get that reference.

And all that "strength" didn't keep him from being destroyed by basic bull rushes all last season.

I have absolutely no doubt that 59 year-old Randy White could suit up and dominate Phil Costa for 60 minutes.

NO DOUBT.

I dont care if he worked with ***** ******, some people can play and some can't, Phil Costa is not capable of being a starting center.

Sure he can fill in if you need him for a few games, but over the course of a 16 game season he will become a major liability.

People think that just because we didn't address the position in FA or in the draft that the brass think highly of him.

Wrong, they just didn't have any feasible options and were cash strapped, so they went cheap on the interior line. Whole lot of hoping going on, hopefully one of them work out, hopefully our scrap heap FAs both start, hopefully one of the young guys pan out, hopefully Bill C turns it around.

Hope is not a strategy. Remember that this year when Romo is running for his life, when we cant convert short yardage, and when we can't punch it in inside the green zone (inside the 10).

Sure Costa had a few bumps along the way but he also contributed to this.
