I GURANTEE that he still benches more today than Costa ever has in his life.

That has been proven categorically WRONG.

If Phil Costa can consistently hold his ground and pass block 59-year old Randy White, I'll feel better about him blocking for Tony Romo in 2012.: :D

Then you have little understanding of what it means to be 59.

No disrespect to Manster whatsoever.

The spirit/mind is willing, but the flesh is weak.

If 59 year old elite boxers/MMA can't beat above-average 29 year olds, Randy White aint whipping any youngster on the field, not at 59.

No one said anything about his play. I was referring to your comment stating that Costa now couldn't bench as much as Randy White now. That was a foolish comment and you have to know as much. My guess is that Costa could bench 100 lbs. more than Randy White now and most likely more than White could bench in his prime. Costa is much bigger than Randy ever was. Again, I'm not comparing their play on the field. I'm not stupid.

This relates more to the problems he had getting out of his stance quickly enough, and not to his strength. It's something that killed him early--see the NE game in particular--but something he improved on significantly during the year. Because repetition helps make smart, dedicated players better.

I dont care if he worked with ***** ******, some people can play and some can't, Phil Costa is not capable of being a starting center.

Sure he can fill in if you need him for a few games, but over the course of a 16 game season he will become a major liability.

People think that just because we didn't address the position in FA or in the draft that the brass think highly of him.

Wrong, they just didn't have any feasible options and were cash strapped, so they went cheap on the interior line....

This is something that may or may not be true, but what's certain is that you don't have enough data to come to the conclusion you've already arrived at. We'll see.

And, you're right, it wasn't a deep draft for upgrades at OC, but it was a deep veteran FA market for them. We could have had an affordable replacement if we wanted one.

I'm with most people: disappointed that we didn't upgrade OC in FA, and surprised and annoyed when Philip Blake--the last feasible OC upgrade in the draft--went off the board without us making a move to improve the position. But we had our chances. If the team didn't, it's because they like what they've got with PC and the OG conversion prospects. This team makes mistakes in their evaluations all the time, but it's pretty clear that they didn't want to make a move to specifically target an OC upgrade this offseason.

...for 60 minutes, which was the claim. A play or two, or a quarter or whatever, I become less adamant about. Its not like a boxing match where White could conceivably overwhelm and knock the guy out. 60 minutes is more of a marathon.

If White COULD do that to Costa then my question is why did he retire 20+ years ago.

I know its cool to trash Costa as the worst football player ever...

I loved watching Randy White but this notion White would work over Costa? Over the last 2 years of White career he was not working over many people. Injury had taken their toll on him and his numbers started to fad.

No doubt Randy has experience he can pass on to Costa in combating defensive lineman but Randy playing days are well behind him and he is not beating Costa on any day. I know for many it is the thing to do rag on Costa but some are taking this to the extreme.

Randy is in great shape for a man his age.

Hope is not a strategy.

The Manster conducts a weekend school for linemen and linebackers here in Corpus Christi, Tx, every summer. He has focused quite a bit on striking and getting physical advantages to make sudden moves. He took Karate very early in his own career, and has been developing techniques ever since. He is as dedicated to the life style as any that are ninth degree black belts.

Kudos to a great Cowboy, and fan of the NFL.

I get all of that I have great respect for him. Having said that White played at 260 to 265. Todays NFL DT are much bigger than that. White has a lot to offer but the notion of him beating OL players in todays NFL even Costa is a bit of a reach.

Randy is one of my all time favorite I do not make my comments as knock on him.

If Randy was on today's weight program, adding 20 lbs is commonplace. And even at 260, White could handle many 300 pounders with relative ease. A person's striking/punching ability is not about weight but about force.

And if you feel that White, at the tail end of his career, had nothing left, he still averaged more sacks in his last 3 years than all of last year's starting DL. Heck, even an aged and not as effective Randy White would have had more explosives than Spencer in his prime.
