Just because somebody gets the bright idea to stick him there doesn't mean he can actually play it.

ok, so, we have a guy that can KO very well, with the possibility of playing at another position as well.

sounds like a win/win situation...

carrying two place kickers on the roster is a bad idea imo

if Boehller is better at kickoffs than Folk, then they should just keep Boehller and release Folk.
Yeah, lets release a Pro Bowl kicker...

this gives us 15 yarrds everytime on defense to work with-they will start on the 20 instead of 35 or worse.I like it .

Jerry is a tricky guy, the Wildcat is not just for the offense...........

Right?

Just when I thought things looked bad they took a turn for the worst. Oh well...

I agree

which is why drafting a place kicker makes no sense...especially in the 5th freaking round

Think we'll get a 3rd from him then? Because that's the only thing that will justify this pick. Maybe we can become a kicker factory and just churn them out.

I can't believe you just said this. Wow. If we can't turn our 5th round pick into a 3rd it's a waste? I think field positions important. Important enough to bring a guy in to see what he brings to the table. I suggest you go outside and get some air. There's a reason our scouts and Jerry are running the draft and you're not. Sorry.

The more it's discussed the more I see the reason behind this pick
Me too. I started off not liking this pick but the more I read this thread, the more I love it.

I know he is blowing a gasket. :lmao2:
I just got home and saw this. A replacement gasket is not even possible. This guy sucks. Beyond 40 yards he is a grasshopper, great on distance, lousy on direction. The only thing I can think of is kickoffs and wasting a draft pick on kickoffs pisses me off.

I hate this pick.

If you guys watch this video then you will see why he was drafted.

BRILLIANT! why? because field goals NEVER matter!!

.

Spending a 5th round pick for the pleasure of carrying two kickers is even better.

Yeah this pick is really bad....its worse considering we already have Folk on the roster.....

Sometimes you have to take the best available player. ...now that I've said that, I know much of nothing about this kid and how he could be the best available player.

come on hos...if he dresses every week and handles all our kickoffs, making our defense even better, and lines up a 60+ FG now and then at the end of the first half, also allowing Folk who is already a great FG kicker to focus totally on that, how is that not better than many other guys at this point?

Apparently the new special teams coach was lobbying for a kickoff specialist as well...I think he'll have a bigger impact on our team than at least a dozen other guys who will make the 53 man roster.

One look at his family tree, you can see that stellar athletes are the norm in the Buehler household.

His father, John, was a three-year letterman (1969-71) on Southern California's track team as a shot putter. His uncle, George Buehler, lettered in football at Stanford for three seasons (1966-68) and then played offensive guard with the Oakland Raiders (1969-78) and Cleveland Browns (1978-79). Another uncle, Charles, lettered in football at Stanford for three years (1960-62). His uncle, Ferris, wore snazzy vests and sang in local parades.

Fixed it.

every roster spot is precious. You do not want to have to use two spots for place kickers

i bet they end up keeping Folk, and this was a wasted pick. If they want someone that can average 5 extra yards on kickoffs than Folk, they could have found one in FA

Like I said before, if getting this guy means that other teams start on the 20 as opposed to the 35, then this was a great pick.

Benchpresses don't score points.

I don't care if he benched more than any other player in the draft.

What matters in a kicker is accuracy and distance on KO's. If he is better than Folk in accuracy, fine....we already know that he has Folk beat on distance on KO's.

We'll see during training camp if this was worth it.

Honestly though, I would have rather seen a pick on somebody that plays more often.....although kickers do score alot of points....regardless of how you feel about them. They can win/lose games for you at the end of a game.
