Pick Buehler's PK USC profile *Merged*

Last year Jerry promised a "Wow! player."

This year he drafted a "Huh? player."

---

A few years ago, when the Cowboys signed Vanderjagt, Jerry must have given a lot of thought to carrying a kickoff specialist (as the Colts did when Vanderjagt was their kicker). Maybe Jerry is o.k. with it. Who knows?

To keep him, he has to hold down another spot. He will need to be the 3rd TE, backup FB, field goal holder, longsnapper, or be valuable covering kicks. Otherwise, using a roster spot for him and another one for a 3rd QB will be tough to do. It will mean going very short at some position.

If Folk pulls a muscle on the opening kickoff, who kicks for the rest of the game? McBriar? I have always thought a second Kicker is much more important than a 9th OL or DL or 5th WR, etc..

BTW- the NFL should expand the game day roster to 50. 45 is too small, especially since they want to protect the stars.

if they want to use a roster spot for a kickoff specialist, they could have found one in FA

1. They don't grow on trees.

2. It's not a question of finding a better kickoff guy....we drafted a guy who from my limited knowledge is going to be the best kickoff guy in the NFC from day 1...he's going to pound the ball into the endzone regularly, and he hits it high, very high....when it's not in the endzone, teams tend to not run it out to the 20.

Wait till you see this guy in preseason...You guys are going to absolutely love him. I've been a huge USC fan, so I watch every game I can, and when this guy kicks the ball, it's like when you go see a professional golfer...it sounds like nothing you've heard in your own experience on the course.

Now, he's going to get even better at KO's because he won't be worrying about FG's and extra points.

I know I can't convince anyone now, but you're going to love it when you see it.

I don't even know why, but I love this pick! This guy is going to be the embodiment of this draft, good or bad.

I may have to root for the guy just because of all of the hate for him here. :)

great, so we got the guy who is going to knock the scoreboard down...Excellent, a bad draft pick and he is going to ruin the stadium...

:laugh2:

I don't think this is your average kicker. This dude looks like a football player and he's big, strong, played fullback, played safety or linebacker...plus, he does at that special team play of banging out big kickoffs. Plus, after kickoffs, he's a headhunter...not just some guy shadowing the kickoff team waiting for the runner to burst through.

The Cowboys have tons of picks...this one might not be a sexy pick, but he sure looks like a hell of an athlete.

I have no problem with this pick.

your post made me feel better about the pick

i hope your right

but even if it was a reach in the 5th round, it's not a big deal. Dallas has had a solid draft thus far overall imo

As long as we don't have to deal with Maclin returning kickoffs on us, I'm o.k.

hope you're right Wayne...that's a HIGH pick for a kicker. STRATOSPHERIC when you consider we already have a pro bowler...but I'll say this right now: people on here have SHORT memories. We got killed on kickoffs last year: not just returns for TD;s but FIELD POSITION. My god, every time I'd go to the bathroom and return the other team would be at the 35-45 yard line. Short field indeed....this will help our defense gents....if Wayne and others are right.

PS: BSPN said he outbenched Matthews and Mauluga(sp?) that can't be right can it?

As much as I've been scratching my head with this year's draft - and especially this pick - now that I've read up on the guy I'm totally on board with it. I griped and groaned last year at how terrible our kickoff's were and at how much yardage we gave up in the process. If Buehler can deliver on Sunday like he did on Saturday, I'm sold.

For the life of me I'll never understand how a guy with a natural cannon for a leg like McBriar cant learn how to kickoff when other punters can and do.

I agree! At first glance, I thought this was terrible, then looking at the intangibles, looks like a very nice pick. The dude is huge, and can be like a FB covering the kicks, almost like having a man advantage from normal KO teams.

Nice find!

Weird. Sez he's longtime friends with Folk, both as students at kicking camps and as instructors. He talked with Folk earlier this week. ...

Who knew?

Sounds like a guy you'd like to buy a beer.

Looks like Drago though, I wouldn't want to jack with him.

it's really simple, so read this very slowly and take it all in:

our KOs were terrible last year. part of our defensive problems was that we were giving up too many yards on a KO return. having a K that can actually kick touchbacks would give us much better field position and also put less wear and tear on our players.
It amazes me how many people fail to understand the importance of field position and the reason why we were so bad at it last year. Buehler is a game changer at the position whether you want to accept it or not.

Exactly.

Decamillis is talking about him right now. Says he doesn't really expect him to beat out Folk... Says they'll plan on two active kickers.

Talking about what a good athlete this guy is and how he can help cover.

This is all about making opposing Os start much deeper than they did last year.

Maybe as a KO guy. Folk's KO's leave a lot to be desired.

Remember, it wasn't Folk's lack of KO power, but the strategy used since ST coverage sucked. They told him to kick at an angle which will always make the kickoffs come up short at times.

I agree with most that this is definitely a wasted pick. There is no requirement to draft a kicker every year just because.

he is on with norm right now...He said he used to be a safety and a running back and wants to play on special teams!!!

If our kickoff specialist covers on special teams, he'll easily be one of my favorite players. That's just awesome.

He's a big sum-of-a-******...

With some pro coaching who knows what this guy will do. And, even if he does not pan out for the Cowboys, someone is going to need a kicker somewher down the line....

And, it's a comp pick to boot!
