Any of you guys ever heard of the term "hidden yardage"?This pick tells me Jones still has a few football brain cells left. You think if Folk could kick touchbacks that they would have told him not to?The difference between handing the ball over to a team on its' own 20 versus their own 35 is immeasurable.I have always felt a team should carry 2 kickers if their fg kicker doesn't kick off well.Great pick(as long as he can kick touchbacks from the 30).

If you actually believe the only reason Folk didn't get touchbacks was because he was told not to, then you are a dufus...but I don't believe you really believe that.

It was well known that Folk struggled with kickoffs...even when he tried to kick directionally, he often mi**** the ball and put a few out of bounds.

Mark my word...we'll keep both, and the new kid will handle all the kickoffs. It's been done before in the NFL, and it will help our defense tremendously.

A couple teams had 2 kickers.

I know Carolina did, and I think Goose said that Baltimore did as well.

Hmmmm . . . . 2 playoff teams who emphasize STs. Imagine that!

(I'm agreeing with you)

WASTEEEEEE. Nick can kick off too!!
Yes he can. He's just not very good at it. Go back and look at the game films. He was barely getting the ball past the 5 yard line. Buehler solves that.

WE draft a kicker in the 5th. With Folk on the roster I have to join all the others who have been saying,
"What the Hell are they thinking?"

not touchbacks...

nick can't play FB or any other positions either. however, I'd still keep Folk for FGs

Apparently two good kickers are better than two good defensive tackles. We have completely ignored that position in the draft.

Just because somebody gets the bright idea to stick him there doesn't mean he can actually play it.

According to Josh Ellis who's blogging on the official site,

"We heard a while back that new special teams coach Joe DeCamillis was interested in bringing in a kickoff specialist. At 6-2, 227 pounds, Buehler can boom the ball."

LOL.

Did you just seriously say that?

A late round draft pick is going to replace our Pro Bowl young kicker who is MONEY on clutch kicks?

Wow.

The internet is a dangerous place.

I'm with you to an extent, but if you think that we wouldn't consider cutting or trading Folk if this guy is even comparable in FG situations, I think you're misled. Clearly we want to give this guy a chance (5th rounders don't grow on trees), and we'll be hesitant to field 2 kickers on the 45 man...

Folk is going to have to compete for his job...at the very least to show that his demonstrated clutch kicking ability and general accuracy are superior enough to Buehler's that we're better keeping two Ks than another LB, DB, FB/TE, etc.

If nothing else, I could definitely see them planning to use this guy on the coverage team too.

One good DT because last I checked we had a petty good one.

Uhhh...yeah I did.

If he is just as accurate on FG's what is the difference? Kickoffs. Who here was happy with KO's going to the 10? You?

Besides, there are PLENTY of UNDRAFTED kickers that have made it in the NFL....thereby taking the place of kickers already on a team....duh.

The more it's discussed the more I see the reason behind this pick

Plus, I think that this pick makes it obvious that the team wasn't happy with kickoffs.

I hope they picked him to kick Crayton in the sack every time he runs his mouth.

That's the point. Maybe in the sixth round we can draft a prayer to God that Ratliff doesn't get hurt.

carrying two place kickers on the roster is a bad idea imo

if Boehller is better at kickoffs than Folk, then they should just keep Boehller and release Folk.
