If he can play long snapper too then his roster spot is safe.
Automatic touchback is pretty dope.

come on hos...if he dresses every week and handles all our kickoffs, making our defense even better, and lines up a 60+ FG now and then at the end of the first half, also allowing Folk who is already a great FG kicker to focus totally on that, how is that not better than many other guys at this point?

Apparently the new special teams coach was lobbying for a kickoff specialist as well...I think he'll have a bigger impact on our team than at least a dozen other guys who will make the 53 man roster.
Look, I understand the philosophy. I just hate Kickers. It isn't an act.

This guy is a football player. Was the 5th high to draft him? Probably, but this guy not only makes the team, he'll be a pick we look back at and say yeah, that was a smart move.

I move to start the David Buehler Affeciando Club - who's with me?

if another team got rid of someone, it is probably because they cant kick field goals well....but Dallas is probably not going to be asking Boehller (sp?) to kick field goals.

So then is this one of JJ's experiments? He usually has to have at least one. You know what I mean:

- Baseball player to QB

- QB to WR (experiment still ongoing)

- K to ST ace

And for the record, how many of these have been successful?

Why don't they just draft a player who actually has played the position recently and at a high level instead of trying to switch a player to what they think he can play? Just cause he can bench a lot and has played multiple positions in junior college doesn't merit a 5th round pick imo.

So is the Raiders kicker... we see how well that is going and how many positions does he play?

Folk doesn't do so good on kickoffs. This guy does. We probably carry two kickers to get better field position.

I don't think the Cowboys are that good of a team to carry two kickers, plus a punter, plus a long snapper.

Folk will only get to play when Ferris Buehler takes a day off.............

I dont appreciate your attitude

let me know when you want to grow up and have a rational discussion like an adult

I didn't ask what you appreciate, nor do I really care.

fact #1 - Nick Folk isn't very good at kick offs, but is very clutch with field goals

fact #2 - Buehler is very good at kick offs and can also help out at other positions

fact #3 - it was not a bad pick

Decamillis is talking about him right now. Says he doesn't really expect him to beat out Folk... Says they'll plan on two active kickers.

Talking about what a good athlete this guy is and how he can help cover.

This is all about making opposing Os start much deeper than they did last year.

This guy has some real flexibility in his athleticism that I think will allow for some real interesting situations. Obviously he could dictate starting field position for our opponent...Folks directional kicks were horrible and his regular down the pike shots rarely made the endzone. What's to say we don't throw this guy in on endzone situations at TE, FB? Pooch kicks? Wildcat? Emergency backup positions? What I'm getting at is that the unknown about this kids abilities and what he can be used for would sure as hell get me confused or distracted if I was the D lining up on the other side. I think that fear/uncertainty to the opponent is great.

except he's notably good at kick offs and HAS played at different positions.

what i saw is a guy who can kickoff, and contribute on the rest of special teams, like getting out there and tackling.. 1 extra tackler on KOs sounds great to me.

plus depth in other places

your unnecessary, chicken **** comment stated otherwise. If you didnt care, you wouldnt have gotten your panties in a wad over someone questioning a draft pick.

I have two cents like everyone else. You can have change back on that two cents if you want, doesnt matter to me

DMN Blog: David Buehler won't be just a kickoff specialist

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips
David Buehler is a football player whose best skill happens to be booting kickoffs into the end zone. That isn't the only thing the Cowboys plan to have him do, though.

Nick Folk has a firm grip on the point-scoring part of the kicking job. But new special teams coach Joe DeCamillis told Buehler that the Cowboys plan to expand his special teams role past kickoffs.

"I believe I'm a kickoff/special teams player, but I'm not positive," Buehler said. "I'm going in there with my eyes wide open."

Buehler, the 172nd overall pick, played linebacker, running back and kicker in junior college. He practiced at safety and fullback after transferring to USC and played on special teams as a non-kicker before becoming the full-time kicker. He has the size (6-1, 227), speed (4.62 40) and strength (27 bench-press reps) to cover punts or block for returners.

"I'm fair game," said Buehler, who has been buddies with Folk since they met at a kicking camp a few years ago. "I'm their property now, so I'm willing to do whatever helps the team win."

Or whatever justifies a roster spot.

Wow: this is some old time football being pondered here. Think Blanda playing QB and kicking for the Raiders. Never a dull moment at VR...........

LOL that will be cool watching the kicker running down the field looking to jack someone up...could give the Cowboys quite a unique advantage on kickoffs

plus depth in other places

what other places are you talking about?

the fact that he played some safety and linebacker in high school and juco means nothing when it comes to the NFL
