Jets fans?!? What are those?;)[/quote]

jets, mets and red sox fans are very similar, loyal to a fault, but only seem really happy when things are at their worst.

I don't think anyone here want's to keep Fabini over Rob. I also think maybe a year of being the swing guy (by the way, history says Rob will get a chance to start. The odds of both OT's making it through the year healthy is slim) will really help Rob.

I would much rather have Rob than Fabini and I hope it is Fabini they can move. Give me the young up and comer any day. My brother is a Jets season ticket holder so I am familiar with Fabini. He is a good player and it's hard to say how far he has fallen off because Herm was soooo bad....but that is another story. Good luck to you and your son, Pittdawg. I am certainly pulling for you both. By the way, I believe you work out at the same gym my brother-in-law goes to. He tells me all the time about talking with you about Rob. If a guy named Ryan talks to you about his crazy Cowboy fan brother-in-law, it's me.

Anyway, good luck!
if it's ryan the ND grade, i know exactly who you are talking about. nice guy and enjoy talking football with him but never miss an oportunity to remind him of rob's last trip to south bend and palko's 5 td passes for a record.

True!...that's why five straight to the Yankees feels vaguely satisfying, and watching Jason's penalties mount up last year were so much fun. :D

If I was a 2nd year OT in the NFL playing the swing T to two vets I would be feeling pretty good about playing time in the future and pretty proud of myself to boot.

Nice to be able to learn from two vets.

Parcells likes RP, I think his future looks great here in Big D !

Wasn't your son injured the vast majority of last season and that ultimately effected his play?

Please discuss Fabini's knee injury and how that led him from being moved from LT to RT and how that compares to Rob's situation last year?

Is that not exactly what you just talk about fans doing with Rob.

Sounds like you have a dog in this fight (master of the obvious).
not an expert on the jets, but i don't believe he had a knee injury. i beleive he played poorly on the left side and was moved to rt before he sustained a pectorial injury which ended his season.

rob's case is old news except all players play injured to some extent. i personally think rob should have sat out a couple of games because of a severe ankle injury, but i'm only his fahter.

I'm kinda surprised Rob hasn't seen any preseason time with the 1st team OL (correct me if i'm wrong). I kinda have the feeling that is because Bill knows what he has in Rob and feels he needs to evaluate the other players.

All the plays I have seen Rob involved in this preseason he has looked much improved compared to last season.

The only slight "disapointment" is that it looks like if Flozell is out on opening day that McQuistan will get the start (maybe because Rob played RT all last season?).

Anyway, in my infinite wisdom, I think Rob has the swingman role sewn up.

Why would you trade any player that hasn't failed Parcells' three year rule, let alone one who has shown potential and improvement?

IMO, Petitti isn't going anywhere.

Pittdawg, how does Rob feel about being the swing tackle? I am sure he would rather start, but does he feel like he can play both sides?

Personally, I have not given up on Rob being the starting RT. Bill, has said that he does not need to see Rob play as much in the preseason as some of the others. So, a lack of playing time does not mean Rob will not be the starter.

It seems to me that Parcells is trying to make sure he has the best options available. If Rob can play both sides better than the others, he may have to play that role to help the team.

Fabini was hurt last year.

And I don't mean to be an a-hole, but he was still better then your son (last year).

That said, if one of the two were to be cut I'd cut Fabini (since he's not gonna start anyway).

Tell your son not to worry about things he can't control. Just concentrate on his game and what happens, happens. If he does that he'll be fine.

Yes, that's him. The ND grad. Please, stick it to him every chance you get.

i agree.. first off, though, I think that Flozell will be playing.. but if not, i would feel much better with Pettiti out there than McQ.. when Bill says that McQ is making the roster, I assume that he won't be active on gameday and that he is just making the squad so that he isnt snatched up by someone else.. i know that Bill loves him, but i cant believe that he would be ready to start at LT..

Hey PD,
we always appreciate your insight, we're pulling like heck for Rob also and whomever is in competition at the T position. We have the same goals, we want to see Rob anchor our OL for a LONG, long time, become a probowler, and put on a SB ring, or three.
Seriously, thanks for your input to this board.

Jets | Fabini Practices, Questionable for Week 4 - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 29 Sep 2005 13:24:17 -0700

Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports New York Jets OT Jason Fabini (knee) practiced at right tackle Thursday, Sept. 29, but remains listed as questionable for Week 4. If Fabini plays this week, he will line up at right tackle due to his knee injury, with OT Adrian Jones manning the left tackle spot

i haven't left, nor am i disgusted. rob is on an emotional roller coaster right now and unfortunately i'm seated next to him. he feels he had a great camp, but doesn't know how everything will shake out. he and columbo have become good friends, except when the yanks play boston, and is pulling for him to win the RT spot if it's not himself.

one funny thing, i have read where some feel rob is the most tradeable of the tackles and might even fetch as high as a third round pick, but in the next sentence remind everyone he has very little ability and are scared to death if he were the starter at either side. oh well, the plight of some dallas fans.

I hope you are both blessed beyond words!
If Rob was my son I would be banned by now.

You are truly a class act.

I have a hard time seeing us release Rob. That would be a complete waste of a draft pick and years development.

Andre Gurode looked completely lost for a few years and now looks fairly dominant. OL are not running backs that either show up as superstars or can't play. OL develop over time.

I think that Fabini is barely serviceable as a LT, but OK at a RT when healthy.
He was picked up for RT clearly, and that is all. I think there is little chance that he is as good as Rob at playing both sides. BP has already pretty much said that Rob is the swing guy. Right now I think Fabini is hanging on by his fingernails since BP has flat out said they are keeping McQ. 5 OT's does not seem like something that BP will do unless he thinks the Hotel is going to be out for a while, and there is no real indication of that.

Barely serviceable as a LT? He has actually played LT at the NFL level in a meaningful game. Petitti has yet to do that.

I am pretty sure Curtis Martin didn't run for all those yards in NY in spite of Jason Fabini playing LT.

What's funny to me is that Parcells has already given us a pretty good idea of what he's going to do.

From what I read below, Colombo is the starter, Petitti is the swing tackle, and Fabini is the fifth tackle he's considering keeping. (We already know McQuistan is in because Parcells said so.)

From his Monday news conference:

Where is Pettiti?
He's a swing. That's not a bad thing.

Is Fabini an odd man out?
No, I might keep all of them.
