not an expert on the jets, but i don't believe he had a knee injury. i beleive he played poorly on the left side and was moved to rt before he sustained a pectorial injury which ended his season.
Jason had on and off knee issues, and the move to RT last year was pretty much because he no longer had the lateral movement or overall agility you'd expect in a starting LT. He never was a great 'range' player, but he had lost quite a bit. Then he suffered the "big one" - the pectoral.
Plus Herm was anxious to see how Jones would do at LT...and the answer was this year the new regime drafted Ferguson.
The Jets were simply plagued by the same kind of one after another debacles that we saw here...both trusted vets (Mawae and Fabini both injured and falling off due to age), and then we know how it goes..plugging in one guy here, one there, everyone trying to help his buddy but no one doing his own job. Pete Kendall, a decent guard but a sad center, was sent in to replace Mawae for awhile, it was a mess.
Btw Jones is back at RT now. The Jets drafted Ferguson with the 4th pick overall and Nick Mangold, to replace Mawae with the 29th overall. If anyone is familiar with the NFL stat 'adjusted sack rate' and understand what it means - last year the Jets were ranked either 29th or 30th, I forget which, but it was one of them.. Poor Pennington, Fielder, Bollinger.
I used to be known as the resident Jets expert here, but no one asks me about them anymore. I guess that's a GOOD thing, lol.
But I can tell you in all honesty, I was happy to see JF signed as 'security', but Rob represents better value - youth, upside, health and future-wise.
I hope Bill can manage to keep both as he has expressed the desire to do so, but I have little doubt your boy ain't goin anywhere that's out of Dallas.
