LOL and I know I'm setting myself up for some crazy posts asking that but:

Can Wade Phillips save his job?

If I were Jerry Jones this is what I would need for Wade to be retained and a financially fair contract extended:

1) No less than 11 wins, and 2 victories or at least a strong showing in the divisional round if entering the playoffs as a Wildcard. If we earn a homefield advantage game, we must at least appear in the NFC title game.

2) Continuance of the improved play of the Defense

3) An agreement to hand the reins to Garrett in 2011, and groom a 3-4 DC for 2011.

This team has too much of Wade's stamp on it (Brooking, Olshansky, the D) to move off that map too far right now. If we can keep some continuity the players will be forced into accountability because they know the HC has a definitive role in their future.

I like what I am seeing for this squad right now, I'd prefer not to pull the plug on the coach that the team obviously is learning from and responding to his solidarity with them as players.

I believe we can straighten out the pre-snap penalties, I think the early tackling issues were the result of player preservation tactics for TC and we're seeing that round into form right now. This game vs. Atlanta was one of the best tackling performances by a Cowboys team since the Jimmy days.

If the criteria above is met, Wade NEEDS to stay. If not, then he's gone if I'm Jerry.

The only Wade saves his job is if we lose the NFC Championship or Super Bowl.

I'm not kidding. Think about it.

If we miss the playoffs, Wade is gone.

If lose a wildcard game, he's gone.

If we lose a divisional game, he's gone. We've been there before.

If we win the Super Bowl, then he rides off into the sunset.

BUT, if we lose the NFC Championship, then it means we won at least one, probably two playoff games, and Jerry gives him a chance to build on that success for at least one more season.

And if we lose the Super Bowl, well, the guy took the team to the Super Bowl, and he's obligated to keep him.

I think he can if Dallas wins the division and a playoff game. No way will Jerry fire him if he wins 11 or 12 games and a playoff game. Jerry will view that as progress and stick with him.

I do not think he can. He has not been offered and extension and I doubt he will be. Maybe a Super Bowl win erases that, but I don't see us winning the Super Bowl.

I think he definitely saves his job if we go deep into the playoffs. One playoff win may or may not do it, but it probably would.

I agree with this. But what of our Ginger OC and DC situations? You might need to fill all three positions if Wade is removed.

Especially if we exit the playoffs by not looking completely lost.

But I have a feeling these penalties will be he and Jason Garretts demise.

Im worried about starting all over again with a new defense as well because these players take forever to get comfortable in a scheme.

Wade would have to have a deep playoff run to save his job. Personally, I believe Jerry is huge Wade fan but Wade has to do something to allow Jerry to justify keeping him around. If Jerry were to keep Wade around without any playoff victories this town would go crazy.

If Dallas won the Superbowl this year then yes he'd save his job. Anything outside of that will not get it done.

Sure. Get to the postseason and win the SB.

Now, I seriously doubt he can it, but technically yes, he can save his job.

We have a talented crew no question but I'm not sure about throwing anything too new at them. What some people think might be upgrading might be more of a restructure with all the growing pains involved with that. I'm not so sure of our talent's shall we say... aptitude... remember when BP flipped the script the first time? Ouch.

He doesnt have a contract for next yr, so he's gonna have to "earn" a new deal, and I think to "earn" it means we make it to the NFC Championship game, maybe even the Super Bowl, and we got a long way to go before that happens.

I think if the offense continues to play well, Garrett will be the next HC, and IMO he'd deserve it.

Absolutely he can save his job. He knows that. And he got his team coming to play against Atlanta. That game was epic and i'm sure every fan on this board thinks we have a legitimate shot at at least an NFC title if we play every game that way.

If the team keeps responding to him and continues to improve the rest of the season. If he wins some tough games in November/December, and he has a strong playoff showing, how can you fire him?

I like what I saw of our team out there on Sunday, and I liked what I saw from Wade. He had a quick talk to Newman and seemed like he got on to Campo a little bit and for the rest of the game it was lights out.

If you want to blame him for the losses you need to give him credit for the wins. He had the team prepared. Our defense played mean.

This is exactly how it should be, and I hope you are right. I personally think that we are in danger of underestimating how much Jerry likes the current arrangement. He has his DC. He has is OC. And Jerry gets to be pretend head coach, even though he doesn't have the "official title".

I think he PRAYS that Wade makes this at least a RESPECTABLE season so he doesn't have to fire him.

I predict any kind of respectable season and Wade is back next year.

Can he? Yes, if absolutely everything goes right. Not only do we have to win a couple of playoff games, but the D has to play great and it wouldn't hurt if the areas he's had input into come through. I'm thinking of Brooking, Igor, Joe D, maybe a draft pick or two he had particular input into (like maybe Butler and Jason Williams), maybe a reclamation project who becomes valuable like a Junior Siavii. Of course the first three of those have come through.

It probably wouldn't hurt if some of the influential players on the team spoke up for him, too, like Romo and Demarcus. Maybe even if he had a valuable free agent or two who wanted to play for him if he were here, like Brooking did. (Though I can't think of any off the top of my head.)

I just think too many things have to go right for it to happen. If Romo is perceived to have regressed, even if we win a playoff game, I think Holmgren or another HC who is seen as a good QB developer will be here.

BTW, Wade doesn't need an extension on his contract to keep his job. All Jerry has to do is pick up his option, which he can do at any time with no negotiation.
