I think Jerry realizes that change is not always good and certainly will cause some upheavel and friction in the francise, as the new coach will want to incorporate some of "his" guys.

This is even more the case now, with Wade also serving as the defensive coordinator.

Therefore, I believe a strong regular season finale and a playoff win gets Wade rehired.

the "agreement" stuff is just silly nonsense. That's just not how the NFL works.

The Cowboys must finish above .500 for Wade to have a chance to stay. 10-6 and a playoff win and he's back guaranteed.

I think Jerry likes the current combination. If we win a couple of playoff games or more then I think Wade gets another year. If not then I think he'll elevate Garrett to HC.

I agree with another poster. The best bet for the Cowboys is to stay the course. This team is definitely better and the defense looks like it may be good enough to win a championship.

I agree.

I think Jerry Jones really likes Wade Phillips because he doesn't have to give up too much control and Jerry Jones probably stands to get more credit with somone like Wade Phillips being here, rather than a coach like Bill Parcells.

I don't think Wade Phillips has to get to the Super Bowl, I just think we need to have a deep Playoff Run and the team has to play well in the last game.

Jerry Jones really has to keep that Stadium full and he really needs Wade Phillips to have great success in the Playoffs to justify keeping him. I think it will be hard to sellout the new Stadium if we don't do anything in the Playoffs and Wade Phillips is retained as Head Coach.

Besides, it looks like there could be alot of great candidate to replace him.

If the offense keeps clicking with Miles in the line-up, then the path is set up for Garrett to take the reigns regardless. If this team gets into and wins a playoff game this season, then I would suspect that Jerry will try to convince Wade to move to the D-Coordinator role as the highest compensated assistant in the league. If Wade does not accept, then look for the short white headed former coach of the Dallas Cowboys to be D-Coordinator.

If the team tanks, then the writing is on the wall for Holmgren to take over next year.

This is just my opinion, of course.

I don't think Jerry is in love with Wade as much as some of you think. On Jerry's show last week on the Fan, they were grilling him pretty hard on what it would take to keep Wade, and he tried to dance around the question, but then finally said something to the effect of, "I don't know exactly. Right now I think he's the best person to coach this team. The question is would he still be the best person to coach this team at the end of the year?"

What is important? I would think winning is the object and if Wade can make that happen then great. I would say that about any HC

Short of Winning the Super Bowl...No.

OK...maybe if he just gets to the Super Bowl.

Sorry but just a playoff win or two isn't going to cut it.

Super Bowl or hit the road.

Sure winning is the object. I just don't like Wade as the head coach and would like to see him gone.

Why what did Wade do to you? :laugh2: Hey you can like who ever you want that is cool however the players on this team play the game and if they play hard for Wade and are able to win a championship then I would just as soon have Wade here. The coaches job is not to motivate the fan his job is to get through to his players.

The only way Wade Phillips stays is if he wins the Super Bowl.

We're about one more season away from that, in my opinion. Crazier things have happened though, like Arizona going to the Super Bowl. Wait and see!

Ok in fairness does that go for any HC we were to bring in? If Cowher came to Dallas can we say you must win the SB right now or you are gone? Come on if Bill is all that then his expectation of what he could do needs to be higher than Wade right?

This will be Wades third year.

He took over a very talented team that went 13-3.

Then underachieved in the Playoffs that year and it's been that way since...save a few games here or there.

So I don't think expecting a guy to do it in his third year with the talent that we have as asking all that much.

Nor should it be considered as asking him to do it right now.

Right now would have been his first year.

After the 13-3 and then the slide last year...he's on thin ice...and it's cracking.

Cowher has won a Super Bowl and almost beat the Cowboys in XXX.

I'd take him today over Phillips...if Jones would do it.

I do not think he can. He has not been offered and extension and I doubt he will be. Maybe a Super Bowl win erases that, but I don't see us winning the Super Bowl.

...i don't know about superbowl but if they continue playing like they played sunday then they have an excellent chance of going 5-0 over the next five games...if only they could catch NY and PHI right now as they are both going through some issues...Phi with the o-line minus Westbrook and NYG with a secondary that truly misses Kenny Phillips, they looked absolutely impotent against Arizona on both sides of the ball, with Eli just chucking the ball up to covered receivers...unless they can solve their secondary issues it could be a very different game when Dallas goes to the Meadowlands in December...you lose by 48 points for a reason...and it's usually a glaring deficiency...

All its going to take is a playoff win or two. Jerry will be looking for any excuse he can find to keep a puppet around.

LOL and I know I'm setting myself up for some crazy posts asking that but:

Can Wade Phillips save his job?

If I were Jerry Jones this is what I would need for Wade to be retained and a financially fair contract extended:

1) No less than 11 wins, and 2 victories or at least a strong showing in the divisional round if entering the playoffs as a Wildcard. If we earn a homefield advantage game, we must at least appear in the NFC title game.

2) Continuance of the improved play of the Defense

3) An agreement to hand the reins to Garrett in 2011, and groom a 3-4 DC for 2011.

This team has too much of Wade's stamp on it (Brooking, Olshansky, the D) to move off that map too far right now. If we can keep some continuity the players will be forced into accountability because they know the HC has a definitive role in their future.

I like what I am seeing for this squad right now, I'd prefer not to pull the plug on the coach that the team obviously is learning from and responding to his solidarity with them as players.

I believe we can straighten out the pre-snap penalties, I think the early tackling issues were the result of player preservation tactics for TC and we're seeing that round into form right now. This game vs. Atlanta was one of the best tackling performances by a Cowboys team since the Jimmy days.

If the criteria above is met, Wade NEEDS to stay. If not, then he's gone if I'm Jerry.

Totally agree with this;
First, the defense must keep improving, thats why wade was hired his defensive coordiantor experience
2nd; Wade must get the cowboys to the championship game. If its a real close game or they play even decent that may be enough for wade to win his job, but he must win a playoff game or 2 and get the cowboys to the NFC championship game.
3rd, Must groom a defensive coordinator, not sure if you noticed or not, but looks like to me that campo is being groomed for the defensive coordinator job
4th agree with the Jason Garrett being given the Head Coaching job by 2011, if wade stays next year.
5th. I think wade will be held more responsible to have a even tougher training camp then last year and hold players even more responsible then this year.

That 13-3 team came out of him prior to that we were 9-7. We won our 1st NFC East title in years under Wade. Yes last year was disappointing and I do think he has to win big to remain the HC I would not say he must win the SB to keep his job I do think winning in post season and playing quality football will keep his job just as it would any other HC in the NFL.
