Please don't start the "must-win" stuff

Next week's game against Philadelphia is not a must-win game. It would be a good game for us to win, especially considering that it's on the road against our main rival for the division. However, the Eagles have a tough slate of games, starting with us and then ending with us. It is likely our home game against them will be must-win, but this week isn't ... unless, of course, the Eagles don't lose any more games this year. If that's the case, though, it probably wouldn't matter if we beat them twice unless someone here thinks we're not going to lose another game this year. This season is a long way from being decided. Who would have thunk that after thumping us the 49ers would lose their next three?
Oh it’s coming. Shocked it hasn’t come yet. People want quick satisfaction and they want a W to mean more than it is but it means nothing this time of the year.

I think people worry too much what seed we get. If you can't beat another team in adverse condition come playoff time, then you don't deserve to advance anyway. Eventually, you gotta face the best teams, and to be the man you gotta beat the man.

Correct. It’s unlikely Dallas will win the division if they lose though. Dallas schedule is probably harder than phillys the rest of the season. And they will be 2.5 back. But I agree, it’s not a must win. As I stated.
I think we've got a tough five-game run coming near the end of the season. The Eagles have a tough run coming starting with us. Dallas, KC, Buffalo, San Fran, then us again, then Seahawks is a pretty good gauntlet. If the Eagles can stay ahead of us during that run, they probably deserve to win the division. Our tough run starts the week before we host the Eagles (Seahawks, Eagles, Bills, Dolphins, Lions). There will probably be at least a few must-win games in that stretch.

It isn't "technically" but it is psycholigically and from a "change the narrative" standpoint especially considering what happened in SF. Yes, philly has a tough schedule but WE have a say in that and at some point we can't rely on other teams and stay in chase mode. 8-1 vs 5-3 would be tough. We have to take advantage of this SF slump and make a move in the conference.

I think it's likely that we can start talking must-win when the Eagles come here unless we happen to lose a bunch of games before then.

Must win games are games that dictate whether or not you actually make the playoffs.

So, this isn't a must win game.

But we really really want to win this one, as if it were a must win game.

I think the psychologically and change the narrative standpoints are more important to fans than to teams.

Wins do mean something though... If you don't win enough, you don't make the playoffs.

It would matter if you weren't winning, and not worried about homefield.

I have no problem agreeing with that. Winning it guarantees us nothing, but it's always good to win, especially against a division rival that is battling you for the division title and possibly home-field advantage.

All of our hard games are on the road. All of their hard games are in Philly. Basically at least

Aren't the Seahawks, Eagles and Lions at home? Eagles are at the Chiefs, at us and at Seattle. Hate that they get Buffalo and San Fran at home, though.

We could lose on the road, the Eagles lose one of their gauntlet of games against KC, Buffalo and San Fran and then we win at home against Philly and suddenly we're tied for the division lead. I want us to win every game, especially in the division, but this is far from being must-win territory. It's be-good-to-win territory.
Technically we wouldn’t be tied. Unless that loss was to San Fran.

Let me rephrase….it is a must win so this forum is not in meltdown mode until Dallas does take over the division. :lmao2:

Well it does always seem to be in a melt down mode anyway. :muttley:

The board would melt down because "we didn't win with style points" anyway

True, but there are other games that could give us the edge if we ultimately end up tied and split the head to head.

I’m saying in regards to knowing what team we have? We won’t know. If we win this business as usual. Doesn’t mean we are better than them. They beat us doesn’t meant they are better than us. Doesn’t mean our playoff chances are shot.

You can stick your head in the sand all you want.......it is a must win. Final standings may come down to tie breaker and head to head is the first category. If Dallas can win Sunday, they are in first place. If they don't, they are two games back in the loss column and losing the tie breaker at this point.

We don't really know, at this early point in the season.....

If you need to worry about final standing and what seed you get in the playoffs, then your team probably didn't deserve to be there anyway. When you get to the playoffs you get what you are given and if you can't win because the conditions weren't right then you weren't the best team to begin with. What good is it to get the best final standings in the regular season because your team plays good regular season football but then aren't able to take advantage of the spot you were given because you aren't a good playoff team? Worry more about being able to produce once you get there than what spot you get in the playoffs.
