Please Explain This To Me About Brady

Quarterbacks might work the balls before the games as in maybe scuffing the balls up a bit. They might get a feel for it and press the ball into the ground perhaps like kickers do before they kickoff. Throw the ball and get a feel for it. But to deflate it, after the NFL officials inspected it before the game, to the levels that Brady and the Patriots did is called cheating and it should be considered as such by the league.

We are not talking about just breaking the ball in here, which I'm sure all teams and quarterbacks do. Someone probably took a needle to the ball and deflated it to Brady's liking and there has been accusations about this from the Colts months ago. The Ravens also have made accusations against them about this. The NFL has rules as to what the ball is supposed to be inflated to and these balls fell well short of the ranges that were allowed in the rules. You can't automatically say that this is a league wide phenomenon. If it were, this issue would have already reared it's head with multiple teams and would have been dealt with by now.

How many other teams have accusations of doing this against them? None!

The Patriots have disgraced the game and this isn't the first time. Unfortunately, we still have many people that try and justify it and that's exactly why they'll get away with crap like this.

Read what Troy Aikman thinks about this. He pretty much hits the nail on the head.

You know Brady didn't deflate the balls. Not saying someone else didn't but no way he did it himself.

He said in his presser that he likes a ball at exactly 12.5 pounds and that is "the perfect ball" for him.

He then says he never noticed the game balls being 15% lighter than regulation.

These two comments don't make sense. If you cannot tell if a ball is inflated to 13 pounds or if it is at 11 pounds, how the hell do you know you like a ball at 12.5? I mean, he said in his presser that he cant tell the difference between an 11 pound ball and a 13 pound ball, so how does he know that he likes a ball a "exactly 12.5 pounds" as he was quoted as saying several times?

Your honor, the witness is contradicting himself.

12.5 psi is the Patriots' default fill for footballs.

Frankly I doubt Belicheck or Brady didn't do the mechanical work of deflating the footballs. I would have very little doubt that anything happened with those footballs without at least Belicheck's knowledge. What to penalize I have no clue. Part of me is tempted to say something like fines, draft pick penalties and suspend Belicheck for a year. I think he will cheat when ever he wants because he's gotten away with it for ages. I do think the bounty stuff, if proven, is worse then anything Belicheck has done, but its now at the point of being a trend with him.

The same way I like my tires at 37 front 33 rear, that's where I like them, but I cannot tell u when they are at 34 and 30.

That is because you are a novice.................I bet a professional NASCAR driver can tell if the tires are 4 pounds off...............that's kinda the entire point, a professional should know.

Those making light of cheating are neive. And have others have said a high level athlete can tell any little difference and it makes a great deal. Others that are novices could throw a nerf football just as well as a regulation ball would not notice a few psi difference.
In any sport this is the case.

patriots should loose more than draft picks and a stupid fine. I mean come on this is there second time getting caught. Suspend bill from the superbowl and all next year while he is still be counted as a coach on the staff but cannot have any and i mean any interaction with the team.

If Belichick deserves to be suspended for soft balls, someone deserves to be dropped in boiling oil for the Dez ruling.

a qb can tell the difference between the ball. Those deflated balls (no pun intended) are easier to grib in the rain then a hard ball. If you played qb in high school and up you would know.

They used it as a competitive advantage. NFL needs to make an example out of them. They are repeat offenders and it kind of makes you wonder what else are they doing that they are not getting caught doing? I think they should loose their head coach for a year and their first round draft pick.

Harsh i think not. Imagine the teams that could of won the superbowl or made it to the superbowl if it wasn't for them cheating with the spy-gate and ball-flate and whatever else they are doing.

I would think it as harsh if they had not suspended Payton for a year for the whole bounty thing. He claimed ignorance and Goodell flat out said that ignorance was not an excuse. It almost seems absurd to say this on the surface, but I think they need to sit Brady for the Superbowl. If he was busted for PEDs they would certainly do it, so why not do it for another means of cheating meant to gain an advantage.

benefit of playing in a lousy division and conference.

put them in the NFC and watch them not amount to jack.

10-6 against the NFC in the regular season over the last 4 years. Outside of 2012 where they lost to three NFC West teams, they went 3-1 in The three other years and only lost to the eventual division winner from the division they played.

Maybe they really are good.

Not even close to the same thing.

Why is that? You have a preference for a ball at 12.5psi, does not mean that you can tell it is only 11.5
I notice people keep saying this without hesitation too. Try playing football with a 13 lb football and tell me how it goes
Along with the air inflated 15 pound helmet, these guys are true freaks.

Far far from a novice driver with 5 cars, but I do understand your point.

Mike Perreira, the previous head of NFL referees and now a Fox analyst, has a video clip out (must be available on YouTube) in which he clearly states that what the patriots did is cheating and the NFL will deal harshly with it

I would think he would know

Take away their first three picks and give them a 30 million cap penalty, that will pretty much blow up the franchise. It will also put Brady and BB into retirement. They're likely not the only team in the league who does this, so let it be a lesson.

Then why do many NFL athletes say they conducted similar tests and couldn't detect the difference?
Joe Theisman did it, and said he couldn't tell the difference.
Again, I'm going with those who've actually played the game. Some athletes may be able to tell the difference; others can't. Both can be right.
However, I think it's inconceivable to me that Brady - at the least - didn't know because they were the Patriots' balls, and he's the one who would have wanted the balls to be that way. No way the ball boy changes the pressure without at the very least checking with Brady.

Or maybe they're cheating far more than they've been caught lol

A linebacker can intercept the ball and tell it was flat, but a qb playing the spot for the past, what, 23-24 years of his life apparently cannot?

I saw two( bettis and Brunell) easily tell the difference. Id never be able to prove it but I'm sure I could easily tell the difference as well.

There is a reason before each game every QB meticulously goes over the balls and tells the equipment guys his preferences in respect to pressure and feel of the ball. Having the balls rubbed down in many cases.

You're correct. Brady knew and ordered them to be that way.

Haven't seen any of the tests you wrote about seeing from several NFL athletes.

Even after the Spygate, I would still respect Bellichick and Brady but not anymore. The thing that bothers me isn't their cheating. It annoys me how easily they are lying. Shame. Shame indeed.

Unfortunately, only the Cowboys and Commanders get that type of draconian penalty - and for a much more dubious offense.
