He only has leverage if Jerry is trying to win a SB this upcoming season. If not, what is compelling the Cowboys to extend him right now?
I don't know why that would give leverage, he hasn't even gotten them close to being in a Championship game let alone a SB.

I don't think so for 2 reasons.

1. Jerry and Stephen don't think he's worth 60 million a year and can eat his hit on this terrible contract this year and make Dak actually prove he can contribute in the postseason without the flopsweat and googly eyes or be done with him.

2. Dak thinks he has all the leverage and that he's worth 60 million a year.
Dak does have all the leverage. Dak's deal was anything but horrible. 40 million per year right now is quite a bargain.

Exactly.......Stephen even said we may wake up and hear Dak's extension is done. To be honest, I wasn't sure a couple of months ago but listening to Dak the other day, makes me think it;'s already close. He even touched on how they need his numbers adjusted.

BTW.......I also think we are going to be surprised with the amount he is extended. ( closer to $55M than $60M IMO)
$55 million is still a horrific amount given his production in the play offs.

He isn't worth it but if the Cowboys want to extend him then $45 million should be the max. It's an uplift on his current salary, takes into account inflation etc but it's a take it or leave it offer. He can sign for more money to a terrible team or take a 5 year deal for $45 million average a year so they can spread the cap hit without a no trade clause.

I wouldn't do it as I don't think a team can win a Superbowl with him as QB regardless of how loaded they are, but if the Cowboys are determined to extend him then that's the type of offer to be put on the table. Not circa $55-60 million a year. If he bulks at the offer then as mentioned he's a free to join a gash team for more money. No team as good or better than the Cowboys would offer him the big bucks.

E.g., would the Packers pay Prescott elite money having been completely outplayed by their own much younger QB in the play offs...obviously not.

I voted yes, because it is the type of dumb things this team does.
I prefer he plays out the contract. As to adding the voidable years. But did we ever get a true clear meaning about that?

It's already done. This silence is just to keep the media interested.
Around 55m. Four years. No trade clause.
Rinse, repeat.

well your question about GB is stupid. of course they wouldnt pay Dak, they have a young QB who tore it up in the 3nd half of his first year as a starter. They are banking on Love moving forward... and if Love puts up the same numbers dak did last year, Love will be making 60 million a season.

"When discussing his future with the team, Dak Prescott asserted that he has not lived up to his 40 million dollars per year contract, and therefore suggested a contract extension of 25 million per year. Jerry Jones agreed to that. They both agreed that his taking less would allow the team to put better talent around him and still stay under the cap. Jones also decided to take a hands-off approach by hiring a GM who won't step on his head coach's toes. Jones will no longer give interviews, but instead will stay out of the spotlight." <=== Sports article Cowboys fans wish they would see, but never will.

It's not stupid - It's an example of a similar team in terms of success last season not wanting to pay Prescott going forwards.

49ers don't have a model of paying an average QB $60 million. Chiefs have Mahomes. Ravens have Jackson 2 x MVP. The Bills are carried by Allen. Texans have Stroud. Chargers paid Herbert, Eagles paid Hurts and to be fair he has played lights out in a Superbowl and the Jags will pay Lawrence. Bengals have Burrow and the Jets have Rodgers.

That leaves Detriot - well Goff has already played in a Superbowl and performed to a far higher level than Prescott in the play offs and he's on a very reasonable contract compared with what Prescott will likely demand.

My point stands that no team comparable or better than the Cowboys will pay him anywhere near what he wants - his only option to be paid elite money elsewhere would be from a very bad team unless the Falcons or Seahawks cough up then he might have have a chance of joining a team that can improve even that wouldn't be guaranteed.

I voted heck yeah they're going to extend Dak because the Joneses are so habitual. If they change up and make Dak play out his contract I'd be shocked.

You mentioned Dak's playoff lack of success. Lamar has done nothing. Allen has done nothing. Stroud??? Really? he just finished his first season, so obviously the Texans are good. Chargers paid a guy that I dont think has even made the playoffs. Hurts? yea, he made a SB and his other season besides that have not been good.

I have NEVER been a Dak fan boy, quite the opposite actually. But i just know when it comes to QB, when you have a top 8 guy, you better not get rid of him for the unknown. Replace Dak with garbage and we are the Jets next year. How does that sound to you?

Well, we have 1 week to go till March 13th (opening of Fa's market) will there be an extension deal for Dak?
Man, I really hope so! There won't ever be another Dak, so we better appreciate him for at least 5-6 more years, the dude is amazing! Amazing I tell you!

He will never win a SB as the QB of the Cowboys, but who really cares about some stupid SB.

Dak has no leverage if the Cowboys don’t want to sign an extension with him. He’s left with the contract he’s on and is a free agent in 12 months. It’s 100% Jerry’s move.

It is impossible to predict what someone like Jerry Jones will do.

But I voted no. Something is up. Where there is smoke, there is fire, and we’ve heard talk from insiders that Dak might not be extended. Something is telling me that Jerry is giving Dak this year to go far in the playoffs, and if he doesn’t, he’s gone.

Either Dak goes on a 2012 Joe Flacco run and wins a Super Bowl, which would be awesome, or he doesn’t and we move on, which would also be awesome.

The worst case scenario is that he gets extended.

LOL, I didn't say it was strong leverage. But chances are almost nil winning one with a rookie.

When Jerry said he didn't mean the future, I don't know if he meant all in right now with Dak, or Dak isn't the future.
