You mentioned Dak's playoff lack of success. Lamar has done nothing. Allen has done nothing. Stroud??? Really? he just finished his first season, so obviously the Texans are good. Chargers paid a guy that I dont think has even made the playoffs. Hurts? yea, he made a SB and his other season besides that have not been good.

I have NEVER been a Dak fan boy, quite the opposite actually. But i just know when it comes to QB, when you have a top 8 guy, you better not get rid of him for the unknown. Replace Dak with garbage and we are the Jets next year. How does that sound to you?
Yep

Some fans just can’t get past the lack of success in the playoffs.

But as you pointed out correctly it’s more common most don’t want to realize that top 10 caliber paid QB’s don’t all win championships for whatever reasons.

You just don’t move on for the unknown when you’re a consistent playoff caliber team.

well your question about GB is stupid. of course they wouldnt pay Dak, they have a young QB who tore it up in the 3nd half of his first year as a starter. They are banking on Love moving forward... and if Love puts up the same numbers dak did last year, Love will be making 60 million a season.
Spot on again Reid!

Dak does have all the leverage. Dak's deal was anything but horrible. 40 million per year right now is quite a bargain.
Of course he does . No trade clause. No franchise tag. And he’s still under contract.

The negotiations could drag on but Dak isn’t going anywhere .

The fact he is only top caliber Franchise QB negotiating this season may stall a deal as he’s about to set the new Market Price. Expect 55+ mil per deal.

Good stuff this thread Reid. And I’m not a Dakky either but this isn’t about that.

It is impossible to predict what someone like Jerry Jones will do.

But I voted no. Something is up. Where there is smoke, there is fire, and we’ve heard talk from insiders that Dak might not be extended. Something is telling me that Jerry is giving Dak this year to go far in the playoffs, and if he doesn’t, he’s gone.

Either Dak goes on a 2012 Joe Flacco run and wins a Super Bowl, which would be awesome, or he doesn’t and we move on, which would also be awesome.

The worst case scenario is that he gets extended.
France will not be agreeing to any terms until Cousins and Mayfield sign. If those two cash in big he’ll know Dak will be able to cash in bigger. He’ll advise Dak that free agency is worth waiting for unless the Cowboys offer an unprecedented lucrative deal. It’s just a business decision for Dak, as it is for Jerry Jones.

I voted no, they will do the restructure to buy more time, keep negotiating all season, since that's the path of least resistance and keeps the Cowboys in the news.
yes I agree, keep people wondering and talking.

Also the jones boys dont want to pay 60 mil for dak.
Jerry said he wanted to extend dak if it was reasonable to do.
So maybe jerry doesnt cave this time.

I think they want this to be a prove it year for both MM and dak, and maybe some others.

I would think ALL fans can't get past that. Who would accept the lack of success in the playoffs?
lets see..... the Chargers, The Dolphins, The Ravens, The Bills..... and what exactly is "Success?"wining 1 playoff game? No SB wins is no success. So yea, if you aint got Mahomes, you're pretty much accepting a QB with no playoff success.

I see you used afc teams, no nfc teams ?
Nick foles, Purdy ,Hurts, quickly passed up dak in PO wins 2 got to the SB both lost to mahomes. Foles won the SB.

you should also look at how the qb plays in playoffs if your going to compare. It isnt all about winning a SB.
With Dak it is the same as with Romo, cant get past the div round.
In 2014 Romo played pretty good, and there was the dez catch, and he had a crappy defense, and JG as HC,

Dak has had 8 years with 2 WC wins, it isnt all on him, bad coaching etc, but for a few years he has had a good defense.
In the last 3 playoff games he has played poorly in the start, and unable to overcome that.
The GB game he had the ints 1 early that helped GB to a big lead, and that gave them enough of a lead to win the game.

Again not all on dak but he didnt help much.

There was a time when I would have supported extending Dak but in light of the way he had competed in the playoffs, that's changed.

I would like to see this front office decide to give Dak the option of whether to play out his contract, as is, or else, request to be traded.
The days of Dak insisting on being given the benefit of the doubt about his performance in the playoffs need to come to an end.

and???? what is a better plan than Dak? You dont cut of you rnose to spite your face.

Trey Lance? in my best McEnroe impression..... YOU CAN NOT BE SERIOUS? Like I said... first off, Dak is under contract for the 2024 season, so he will be here for next year no matter what/ If you then do not resign him, who else you have to take over? Like I said, minus Dak and a garbage QB and we are last years NY Jets. Thats not very appealing to me.

Dak, once again was avg in playoffs... but he was about as good as any qb in the league for the entire season. And thats coming from a lifelong Dak basher.

Voted yes but want no.

My wants and reality with this team contradicts itself in so many ways.

Like having to tolerate this GM, HC & QB as being the leaders of my childhood football team whom I'm loyal to grows increasingly challenging the longer those 3 keep their jobs.

Cheers to a fresh start in 2025.

Cutting Dak is all about June 1 money.

He gets the roster bonus on 3/18/2024. $5Million

If they want to max the savings, then the cut has to happen before then.

Also, a trade no longer benefits the team cap wise.

Dak would likely keep his roster bonus.

Keeping Dak in 2024 is causing big problems with our cap.

I don’t see how the ROI is working out for Jerry.

Gallup, Cooks, and DLaw would have to get June 1 cuts just to get us over the cap.

Maybe restructure some of our top players just to have any money for FA.

Bottom line: Dak isn’t worth wrecking our cap.

Well, we have 1 week to go till March 13th (opening of Fa's market) will there be an extension deal for Dak?
I would not be surprised if they don't even talk before March 13th.

GM Jeruh needs an excuse to not be active in round 1 & 2 of free agency.

I seriously doubt they let CD play on his 5th year contract, so at some point they will run out of space or will need to come negotiate with Dak.

Or they can let the team take 2 steps backwards. Too many holes to fill with 8 starters being free agents.

Dak will sign an extension 1 week before the regular season starts. There is no reason for him to sign before then..$180 for 3 years $150M guaranteed or start Cooper Rush..DAK has all the leverage.

'Gob-Smacked!' Bombshell Cowboys Rumor: No Dak Contract? - NFL Network
NFL Network host Rich Eisen says multiple people at the Scouting Combine believe Jerry Jones' version of "All In" for the 2024 Dallas Cowboys includes no new contract for quarterback Dak Prescott.
Much of the offseason has been dominated by everyone trying to decipher exactly what Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones meant by being "all in."

Is it to go out and acquire big-name free agents and kick the salary cap can down the road to 2027? Or is it to sign up the star players who require a new contract like Dak Prescott?

As it turns out, it might be neither.

NFL Network's Rich Eisen was at the Scouting Combine all week, had his ear to the ground and upon his return, had quite the rumor list at his disposal. Now, Eisen is a well-respected personality in the industry and has been for decades so we don't take this with a grain of salt.

Eisen has revealed some of the chatter heard at Indianapolis during the Scouting Combine and it has something to do with Prescott's contract situation and Cowboys Nation, you're going to want to sit down for this.

“The rumor I heard from multiple people at the combine is his [Jerry Jones'] definition of all in is to make Dak play out his walk year and not extend him at all and just eat the cap hit," Eisen said on The Rich Eisen Show.

“This is what he means by all in. He means hey Dak you haven't won a playoff game except you know a couple around here, last year was so dreadful I'm going to make you play it out and I'll eat the 59 nearly 60 million bucks. If you do what I hope you do [win a Super Bowl], hold me over a barrel because you think he's going to take less than 59 million bucks to stay put? I was just gob-smacked when I heard that.”

not sure if I can post the SI article, but a tid bit is above.

Just wait until Dak plays the Martin card a week before game 1.
