Possible 10-15 years of .500 football when Dak's gone

QB’s don’t grow on trees. No matter what you think of Dak, he‘s not the reason for not having much playoff success. He was 2nd in NFL MVP race for a reason. He’s that good. Once he’s gone, it could possibly be years before they break .500. This is no Chicago Bears defense in the making not with massive holes at DT and LB. Mahomes and Brady are generational type players. Picking a QB in the draft is a 50/50 crap shoot AT BEST. So many 1st round busts at that position. Casual fans don’t understand that and want Dak gone NOW. But ask them who’s going to be the QB? They think anyone they draft will be the answer right away. Not likely to happen.

I hope Dak gets extended because I know he gives the team the best chance of winning the Super Bowl. I just hope it’s a team friendly extension. Fix the running game and get a defense that can stop the run and he can easily lead this team to the Super Bowl.
What’s your idea of a team friendly deal? What would you be happy with?

If you can foresee the next 10 to 15 years worth of NFL seasons, you should be running a book in Vegas.
LOL, it would be next to the buffet that Clark and Cousin Eddie went to in Vegas Vacation....

Won’t get into the back and forth but my very confident opinion is that the contract will not be team friendly at all

IMO, Dak is a good QB and the team could win the title with him. . . . at a reasonable cap hit.

I do not think the team can win in the playoffs paying Dak $60m per year or more. There will always be some other team with a cheap but good QB and better talent around them. Purdy.

Giving Dak a huge deal is a fool's errand. Dallas might as well rip off the bandaid now. How long before the next good QB? It might be decades or might be a year or two.

What I will say is that when Dallas gets that guy, don't mess around. Put a great team around him while he is still cheap. I strongly suspect that most of these good QB's getting massive deals will have limited postseason success. This isn't just a Dak thing.

Because I like you I will kindly disagree, lol. Much of our failure in the postseason against above .500 teams rests on his shoulders. He has failed to beat top teams in the 8 years here and has mainly beaten the wicked stepchildren of the NFC. This and the potential contract will hamstring this team for its entirely, as it has in the last few years. Good teams can move on from their QB, as we now have to

The problem is that the same faulty architects are responsible for building the roster.

As much as the overall roster talent has approved, especially since McClay had more say, the Jones have been awful at finding QBs. The three good ones they have had were all luck.

Aikman - purchased the team with the #1 overall pick and Aikman was the obvious #1 overall choice.

Romo - UDFA who would have been cut in 2004 had Quincy Carter not been released for a failed drug test.

Prescott (which half of you hate anyway) - Was a 4th round pick. The Cowboys tried and failed to get Paxton Lynch and Connor Cook in this draft. Prescott only got to play after injuries to Romo and Kellen Moore, as well as Nick Foles choosing to be a back-up in Kansas City over taking the starting job in Dallas.

So, the guys picking the next QB are the same guys who CHOSE the likes of Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Drew Henson, and tried (and failed) to spend draft capital on Paxton Lynch and Connor Cook.
Don't forget the Savior Jerry wanted. Johnny Manziel. I laugh at all the Dak haters. Because in the end Dak's career is going to be the best, we get for the next 30 years  :lmao:

We haven’t spent a first round pick on a QB since 1989.

He’s not an elite amongst the elites like Mahomes, Brady and Rogers who can overcome a weakness in the opposing teams In the playoffs. When you’re 1 dimensional on offense and when your defense can’t stop the other team from running it down your throat *** whipping you all the way, not even Mahomes or Brady could overcome that.

In a league where it has never been easier to play the position, designed for parity & thus why most teams hover around .500 regardless of their talent level the OP's unshakeable fear is that it might take 10-15 years to rise above .500. ??

Just last year rookie QB's, backup QB's, journeymen & starters shipped off to other teams won enough to keep their teams afloat, make the playoffs or even win a playoff game. Goodness the luck we would need to crack the .500 barrier in a decade or decade & a half.

Completely overlooking the fact we've managed 12 wins with a guy who is for the most part is league average at best.

Good lord some people just can't let go of mediocrity in the pursuit of higher accomplishments.

This fan base has been bashing our QBs ever since Aikman’s last couple of seasons. Good luck finding a QB that’s going to be able to overcome some of the glaring problems we see every season, especially in the playoffs. If anyone thinks this 28 year championship drought is all because of our QBs, you’re completely out of touch with reality and are not a very astute football fan.
I have to agree with you KJJ. Oh make no mistake, Dak and his monster contracts have to go, but I agree with your statement "Good luck finding a QB that’s going to be able to overcome some of the glaring problems we see every season, especially in the playoffs."
But watch what happens when our 3 consecutive 12-5 seasons turns into 3 consecutive 5-12 seasons but they won't have Dak here to blame it on.
