I would definitely take a chance on Manuel he's only entering his third season and is 25 years old. He's younger than Weeden and early enough in his career that he could still end up being a solid QB.

I much rather have Austin Davis

Davis was an undrafted free agent and Manuel was a first round draft pick just 3 years ago that alone has me more intrigued with Manuel. I see more potential than just a backup with him if you put him in the right system. It's not like he's been around 6 years playing for his second team there's still the potential for him to be a solid NFL QB.

Uh, Manuel is lighting it up. Anyone that wouldn't take him over Weeden is being silly. With his performance, I am guessing he isn't going anywhere..

Yeah.. I said I would.

Our backup QB situation is so bad you want anyone that can do a solid job.

Scoffing at EJ Manuel is ridiculous for a Cowboy fan right now.

He got put in before he was ready. And so everyone is ready to ridicule on him. He still has some talent that could be worked with.

The thing is the writers all say how great he was--weeden in practice
and how he made strides man anyone could be better than him.The amazing thing the Browns wasted a first rounder on him.He is so bad he makes Morris Clayborn look good.

Let's count how many undrafted free agent QB's have amounted to viable backups or starters. If Austin Davis was anything special Fisher wouldn't have traded for Foles. Because Manuel is early in his career there's always a possibility on the right team with the right system he could become a solid NFL QB. Someone might get more than a backup with him you just never know. He may end up being a bust but it's too early to put that label on him. I'm always going to pick the QB that had the most potential coming out of college because the light could eventually come on with them.

He's been a bust so far but he did slip to the second round in the draft. He still may end up starting for the Jets

Smith has been a turnover machine in his first two seasons, with 34 picks and three lost fumbles in 30 games.

Our local sports radio was talking to a Buffalo sportswriter about their QB situation...they have Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel all competing for the starting spot. He suggested that Manuel is the third guy and if so could be cut (I know, he is starting their 3rd game, but the reporter basically said it was Ryan giving him the chance to cut his throat).

If Manuel were cut, would you consider him an upgrade to Weeden at QB?

YES!!!!!

don't want to ask me - its Davis

http://forums.jetnation.com/topic/120517-austin-davis/

He has upside, and that's something the Jets should be looking for in bringing in a new QB, because that quality already makes someone a more attractive option than a lot of the retreads that have been heavily debated over the past few weeks

Maybe we sign Davis and cut Geno

In five starts plus one half, Davis is completing 66 percent of his passes for 1,517 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions for a passer rating of 94.3 (14th in the NFL) and a QBR of 60.9 (19th). He's alternately flashed promise (leading a comeback win against Tampa Bay and a clutch late drive to seal the victory against Seattle)

what are Geno's numbers ??

That isn't to say Davis doesn't have some upside. He brings a fiery and enthusiastic approach that his teammates appreciate, and he has an honest way about him that allows him to openly acknowledge his faults and then set about correcting them the following week.

If nothing else, Davis has proved in his handful of starts that he's deserving of at least a No. 2 job in the NFL. Beyond that, there is still plenty for Davis to prove

I am at the point where I would just about welcome ANYONE with more on the ball then the dregs we have backing up Romo now. Davis would certainly be an improvement.
