So what did Arizona have to rally around last year??????

I would say it was worse than Weeden and they pushed on and did well.

losing their starting qb was not as traumatic as losing Romo would be. Trying to compare the two situations is laughable.

Manuel is awful. Even worse than Weeden. We had success with veterans who've had some success in this league as starters with Kitna and Orton. Why did we get away from that strategy? I know Orton left us but we still could have went out and found someone similar. Weeden never proved anything in this league. Give me a vet with a little left in the tank. Heck, even getting Kerry Collins out of retirement when Peyton went down was a decent move. We just need a guy who knows how to win in this league.

My money's on @Corso over @GimmeTheBall to win the backup role for three reasons. First, Johnny Depp is better looking than Edward R. Murrow. Sorry Gimme. You may as well look good sitting on the bench. Second, Depp's still alive. Murrow's dead. Gimme does have more mobility than Weeden but not by much. And third, Corso can switch to Captain Jack Sparrow if necessary. Handsome. Quicker feet. And comedically charming. How can you beat that combination?

TOTALLY AWESOME!!!

I didn't say any such thing.

So as long as we are just providing our opinion here, despite the potential of it being the opposite of what the organization thinks, I give the nod to Vaughan over Weeden. But that is just me. I'm not saying we stand up in front of the team and say "Hey, Romo is down for the year. So we are giving up. Vaughan it's your time to shine...if you can. If not, oh well. Like I said before, we are giving up any way!"

When he was at FSU ball tended to sail on him. Besides an accuracy problem he wasnt a great decision maker. Those things still havent been coached up in three years. Not sure Wilson can straighten him out either.

We have a much better chance with Weeden over Vaughan.

With our Offensive line I completely disagree. We could win with running game and strong defense. It is done over and over again in the NFL. Low scoring game, control the clock and grind it out. QB just has to make a few plays in that situation and dont give them the opportunity to screw things up. I am not talking about winning the SuperBowl but just a few games in the middle of the season if their were a short term injury.

If he's behind all of those guys than he's probably just as bad or worse than Weeden.

He is better than what most would think and is a proven backup. If we can get him for next to nothing its worth a shot. I'm sick of us having scrubs and rookies for backups. At least Austin plays like Romo and has good mobility.

Sorry but that's a bad take. You don't throw in the towel after losing one player even if it is your QB. What kind of message would that send to the team? What the team will do is rally behind Weeden and play even better to overcome the drop off in the QB play at least until you're mathematically eliminated. Then you might give the young guys some exposure.

I like your positive uptake on this but Weeden is really bad. He had more snaps to learn the system than any other backup last year in the league and yet when asked to win us a game, he does the total opposite and losses a game for us. See Arizona game last year and you will know what I mean. He flat out gave the game to the Cardinals.

So right now anything is better than Weeden. EJ, Austin Davis, and even Tanney is better than that scrub of a backup.

Austin Davis is going to be cut. He's behind Foles, Keenum and Mannion. I'd rather have him over Weeden.

I totally agree with ya. He would be a better option than Weeden. He's got some mobility and looked pretty solid. Weeden looked pretty bad against the Cardinals. And that play against the 49ers with the snap, I have no idea what he was doing there. I would take Manuel over him too. Just keep Romo healthy. That's what the Cowboys need

I have news for you lol.....Austin is closer to a scrub than he is a quality starter in this league lol. I wouldn't trade anything for him. He'll be in free agency for anyone who wants a 2nd or 3rd string quarterback. He's not even a poor man's Romo. Is he better than Weeden? Maybe. I wouldn't be opposed to either one of them being our backup. I have the same faith in about both of them to lead us to the post season if Romo were to go down.

How terrible must I think Weeden is that I am actually wondering if Manuel is an upgrade?

I'm not as certain of that as your are. I think as a result of Weeden's experience at this point in their perspective careers he may be the better quarterback, but who knows what would happen if we put Vaughan in a sink or swim situation. He may just rise to the occasion. On the flipside, we know exactly what would happen if Weeden got the nod. He would be check down charlie the majority of the game, and may on occasion throw a good ball, but ultimately he would be a bus driver, with the hope that the Cowboys defense can win the game.
