The most common names being thrown about are Rattay, Shaun King and Anthony Wright that would fit the bill for affordability.
Guys like Carr or Damon Huard will be too costly for us to try to sign as backup.
Brad Johnson would be a good fit for knowledge and attitude and I can see him being another Jeff Garcia if , heaven forbid, Romo goes down early. He even reminds some of a skilled Jason Garret type..
...maybe Tommy Maddox will resurface again this year?...
anybody have any other names they may have in mind?
p.s---- no Quincy's or Drew Henson need apply, thank you..

I think rattay would probably be the way I'd prefer to go. But who knows at this point.

I really don't think Carr will be all that expensive, and from what I heard Houston wants a fifth for him, so I say let's do it... I mean, he's getting cut by the Texans, and I really don't think he has to much leverage to negotiate anything expensive...he can be a backup and competition...This is my opinion though...

Carr will cost more than a 5th. That number being thrown out there is meaningless. Teams looking for QB will increase the value and Houston will end up getting more than a 5th. I have seen 1 report that the vikes would offer a 4th and as other teams get into the mix that the cost will get higher.

you make a valid point and I agree...but if it comes around and nobody is really offering houston anything I say get him...

I want to scratch off Tommy Maddox. He will be 36 years old when the season starts.

I can't see KC letting Huard(7-9-1973) go or him wanting to be a backup somewhere else. Why should he leave a place where the starter, Green(7-9-1970) will be 37 years old this season? Seems like a better place than coming to Dallas to back up a young Romo.

The only two on that list I'd go after are Carr and Huard.

and please say no to Maddox

Brad Johnson or Tim Rattay are the most viable options of that group because of price. I expect there to be some suprise cuts that could end up in big D. I wouldn't be supprised to see Kurt Warner hit the streets. If the Cards cut him he would be my favorite to land in Dallas. Also I think i read somewhere where Kerry Collins will be a FA. If so he's not great but he's a serviceable #2.

Look for teams in cap trouble and that's where you might see some QB's start coming available.

If those are our best options we better hope Romo never gets hurt.

I think Rattay and Wright are both solid choices, Brad Johnson is a great choice as well. I personally wish Trent Dilfer were available, but of the QBs you mentioned I'm leaning more towards Rattay.

don't you mean CFL star, NFL failure Ricky Ray?

that would be more accurate. Also, I see Bunny's army is growing.

CFL All-Star Ricky Ray of the Edmonton Eskimos.

An awsome quarterback, but his place is in the CFL. He tried to make it in the NFL with the Jets.

Perhaps, but for some guys it takes a try or two. He's head and shoulders above most of the names I've seen listed here. Tim Rattay???? Blech.
