Here are some teams who have battles for that 3rd spot who will probably release a decent backup.
Chicago
Arizona
Seattle
Kansas City
NY jets
Buffalo
Jacksonville
Minnesota
Tampa Bay
New Orleans
St Louis
Cleveland
Denver
San Diego

That's 14 RBs that could include guys like Kadeem Carey, Christine Michael, Zac Stacy, Brice Brown, Stephan Taylor, Bernard Pierce, Cyrus Gray, and many more.

That does not include all the FAs already available like C Johnson, S Jackson, R Rice, etc.

That does not include and of those not going to be released but could be had for a very late draft pick.

There's just no need to freak out right now.

Out of your list Gray is already a FA.
If Stacy/Brown can't make their respective rosters would they bring any value here?
Pierce? No thanks.

Out of your list only Carey offers any value imo. All the other backs would not be any better than what is currently on the roster.

In your opinion....which is what forums are for, so thanks

That list is injury fall back purposes too, btw.
And I only listed a few names out of maybe 20+

Yes I know but some people get a little testy over a difference of opinion. Your list seemed more on the opinion based so I offered some input.

Is Ball going to be expendable?

9News' Mike Klis said Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman is now the "1B runner behind C.J. Anderson."

Hillman has been electric this preseason, averaging 7.5 yards on his 16 carries. The hot start has allowed Hillman to blow past Montee Ball on the depth chart, and it appears he is in a position to steal carries from Anderson as well. Hillman has struggled before when given big workloads and lacks the ideal size to be a true feature back, but he is a great change of pace option who can rip off big chunk plays. If Anderson falters, Hillman has the talent to pick up the slack.

ESPN Bills reporter Mike Rodak expects Bryce Brown to be traded or released.

Brown has been buried on the depth chart all summer, and missed time with a hamstring issue. Brown has mouthwatering raw ability, but frustratingly little feel as a runner. Brown is still only 24. He'd get scooped up elsewhere if he's waived.

ESPN Cleveland "keep(s) hearing" Terrance West is on "thin ice because of maturity issues."

West's poor practice habits and inconsistent ball security led him into the coaches' doghouse repeatedly as a rookie. Then the team went out and spent a third-round pick on Duke Johnson while also talking up Isaiah Crowell. ESPN Cleveland added that West looks "chunky" early on in training camp.

Running backs

Safe: Duke Johnson (r), Isaiah Crowell, Malcolm Johnson (r).

On the bubble: Terrance West, Shaun Draughn.

Work cut out: Jalen Parmele, Timothy Flanders, Glenn Winston, Luke Lundy.

I believe that injuries to others have given West the chance to secure his spot, and he made a positive move in the Buffalo game. Draughn was cast as the veteran mentor “in the room,” but his wrist injury is making it difficult to earn a spot. Winston’s knee injury may land him on injured reserve.

I'd be ok with Flanders and or west. when release. and a trade for ball with Hanna has trade bate

OK, that's what I was going to get to. Even if it were 'insurance', it's too high of a price to pay for that.

When the Patriots had Gronk and Hernandez, they found a way. They did what this team hasn't been able to do since Parcells first tried it - they ran the two TE offense and just killed teams with it. It was a matchup nightmare! If Escobar was that good, we could and would be doing the same, but he's not
.

In fact, all reports indicate he's been a big bag of 'meh'.

No, especially given the mediocre reports on how he's been doing. At this point, I'm thinking any debate about him is moot because I don't think he has any trade value around the league anyway.

As for acquiring a potential running back? I think it's giving up a draft pick or bust at this point

The pats had very little of note at the WR position. If your best receivers are TE you are going to tailor your offense to your best weapons. Apples and Oranges really.

The Denver Post reports RB Montee Ball is being pushed by Juwan Thompson for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart.

Ball has already been jumped by Ronnie Hillman, and it appears Juwan Thompson could be next. Ball has never flashed at the NFL level, and he has reportedly been "slumping" in training camp. His spot on the roster is not secure.

Sounds like we might get a look for free if the team is interested?

Per Yahoo Hillman might get the starting gig and Anderson or Ball will be available.

Dude puts the ball on the ground, period. Bills fans around here frankly can't wait to see him leave.

No thank you.

Bryce Brown appears to have fallen behind fifth-round rookie Karlos Williams on the Bills' tailback depth chart.

Brown has continued to fumble away his opportunities -- literally -- on the practice field, while Williams will be a core special teamer for Buffalo. As will be Anthony Dixon. All of them are behind LeSean McCoy and Fred Jackson. Coach Rex Ryan recently called Brown "disappointing, to put it mildly." Brown should be hitting waivers sometime before September begins.

This is purely speculative and will give us a thread to throw down some names. This is a thread to throw out some names that currently do not have any ties to the cowboys. With a gust of wind taking out two of the RBs during OTAs someone needs to keep a watch....might as well be me...:) Yesterday reading through the wire I read this:

ESPN Broncos reporter Jeff Legwold expects Ronnie Hillman to open training camp on the roster bubble.
Legwold goes so far as to predict Hillman will indeed be cut, leaving C.J. Anderson, Montee Ball, and Juwan Thompson as Denver's top-three backs. Still only 23 years old -- he turns 24 in September -- Hillman reportedly struggled to pick up Gary Kubiak's zone-blocking system at spring practices. He has a near-minimum salary and would generate a lot of interest on waivers. Jul 24 - 1:54 PM
