Predict The Season

Younger players don't necessarily mean better team. Who are these younger players you expect to emerge?

As for Tony Romo, he's the big IF. For all the bashing he gets on this forum (and I admit I've contributed at times), he is the reason this team makes it to 8-8. But he's in decline, IMO.

If he's not healthy and if he's declining, I just don't see this team matching 8-8. In fact, I think this team steps backwards.

I have said absolutely nothing that makes me think we'll be contenders next year. I think it's good chance we'll be cellar dwellers next year.

I just don't see it. But I'm glad you do. I may need to lean on your optimism when the season starts.

Players that should be equal to or better than they were in 2013:

T Frederick (was a rookie)
Ty Smith (only 23)
Dez Bryant
T Williams (was a rookie)
M Claiborne (can't be worse)
S Lee (was out)
T Crawford (was out)
B Carter (can't be worse)
G Escobar (was a rookie)
R Leary (only 24)
Holloman (was a rookie)
Church (only 1 year starting)
Wilcox (was a rookie)

It was also the 1st year in Marinelli's scheme for Carr and others.

Other's that could also be better but hard to predict
Murray
Harris
Beasly
etc

There is upside even before the draft.

Granted, some of those guys may fall into the "equal to 2013" category.
I really don't see many of those guys having worse years though.
And I guess even good ol Matt Johnson would fit that bill....just not sure he'll add anything.

The only two guys that I suspect may not have as good of a season next year are
Selvie (may not get as many reps) and
Witten (maybe less targets with Williams, Escobar, and maybe a rookie WR entering the mix..plus 1 year older).

Also, maybe Bailey, just because he was close to perfect.

Eerily reminiscent of 1997 when we sat at 6-5 then lost the last five to finish 6-10 and Bye, bye Switzer. I do realize you have us losing five of the last six rather than 5 straight.

7-9 is about right. I don't think Romo makes it through the season with the way our offense is designed. We have no coaching or home field advantages to consider. 8-8 is best we can do unless we land a very effective pass rusher and safety in the draft. Health is another concern but we all know that story.
Really nothing solid to hang your hat on for significant improvement with this teams record.

Sorry, color me unimpressed by the list you offered.
Bryant is a supreme talent. I don't know if he's going to get any better talent-wise.
The other guys may get better, but many of them are average to good in terms of talent. I don't know how much better our young players are going to be any better than any other team's young players.

Remember, just because you cite our younger players, other teams have young players too. And if you compare the young players on some of the teams we play and the coaching that molds them, I still don't have much confidence in our team based on who is leading and directing it.

Do you think one year longer for our young players coupled with health and a solid draft will equate to anything better than 8-8? I really want to believe we can pull off 9-7 or better but the questions around Romo's back and Garrett's continued snails pace improvement at HC both tug away at the ol confidence level.
