You are right about that. 2007 most disappointed Cowboy team ever. Romo didn't elevate his game. He was mediocre.
Exactly. And it took me awhile to admit that. I think Dak and Daniel Jones doing what they did sort of helped me see the light. Romo's performances in the playoffs might've been good on those Rex Grossman teams.....but these Cowboy teams were flawed. But make no mistake just because they were flawed doesn't mean they couldn't win. It would've took more from the personnel. This is why Eli has two rings. Why Flacco and Nick foles have rings. They played above their heads when their teams needed them to and I think ultimately that's what you need from your best player(s).

Spoken like a true Arlington Jonesboys fan. At the prom, Jonesboys fans would settle for a dance with their sister.

Have you ever heard of Danny White. Three NFC Championship game appearances in a row. Until Dak takes a team to 3 NFC Championship games in a row, he is no better than that other fake Jerry Jones Country Club QB cowboys legend Romo. They can't carry Danny Whites jock strap.

Sorry, I'm not a fan boy of segregationists caught in the act.

He's referencing the 2020-21 season with Mike Nolan which is by far the worst defense i've ever seen in my life.
You mean the season Dak was out all year?

If so. yeah, that one was pretty awful
23rd in Total Defense
28th in Scoring Defense

so not as bad as 2013, but worse than 2021

Dak has tied Romo's playoff wins in half the number of years. Romo never advanced beyond the division around. If Dak can get one more playoff win and advance to the NFC championship game, the Prescott-Romo debate can be put to bed forever.
Yes, that makes sense...playing for completely different teams against completely different opposition during a different era. Prescott played very well against the Bucs but let's have it right, Tampa Bay were an old, banged up team well out of form there for the taking. Cowboys would have won that game with Cooper Rush at QB off the practice squad.

Cooper would not have won that game.

You must be kidding me?!
Prescott played very well but Rush could have hit wide open receivers in the end zone and also filled his boots from the D picking off Brady in the end zone.
Their was a huge gulf between the two teams.
The Cowboys beat the Bengals - a far superior team to this Bucs team, with Cooper Rush at QB yet they would have lost with him against this Bucs team?
Cooper Rush playing at QB wouldn't have given Brady more time to throw the ball in the pocket - he was running for his life all game due to the Cowboys D

These are the Dallas Cowboys defensive rankings for Romo and Dak:

Romo:

2006 20
2007 13
2008 20
2009 2
2010 31
2011 16
2012 24
2013 26
2014 15
2015 16

Dak:

2016 5
2017 13
2018 6
2019 11
2020 28 (Injured game 5, out for the rest of the season)
2021 7
2022 6

Highest for Tony was 2. Worst was 31.
Highest for Dak was 5. Worst was 28.

Dak has consistently had higher ranked defenses than Tony ever had. Tony never had a SB worthy level defense except for the 2009 season. Even his best chance in 2014 it was middle of the pack. No wonder it couldn't stop an injured Rogers.

The number 2 ranked defense was the one that gave up 34 points (4 TDs by the old man Favre) to Minnesota in the divisional playoff game. The same game where Tony was sacked six times and hurried at least a dozen. One of the headlines after the game was "Tony Romo had no chance against the Vikings' pass rush."
These rankings seem a bit off 2013 D was 32nd for example) but the point stands.....

There's no doubt that for most of the seasons that they both played (and yes there are 1-2 exceptions), Dak has had better defenses, better offensive lines and better running backs.

It's really not that close.

All old news though

Let's just hope Dallas and Dak win this weekend. :flagwave:

And if we do, let's please hope we don't see another silly thread like this one.

Did Romo need a team of more than 13 pro bowlers in 2007 to not go one and done to the Wild Card Giants?
LOL
You dont really think they had 13 real Pro Bowlers do you?

And maybe you should say eventual Super Bowl Champ Giants.....so maybe the best teams that Dallas has lost to in the last 25 years in the playoffs judging by how they were playing in the playoffs.

Anyone with a brain cell could see the difference in quality between the Romo era and now with Prescott, particularly in the defenses.

Prescott played very well and did what was asked of him against the Bucs. He won't have the same time to throw the ball against a better front 7 but his confidence should be high so it will be interesting to see how he plays.

It's an unfortunate thread as the focus should be on the 49ers game but those obsessed with Prescott with random hatred for a former Cowboy QB were always going to start brainless threads like this. Let's hope he plays well against a better D albeit an offense with a third string QB drafted in the 7th round.

May not be as bad stats wise but I assure you that was the worst defense i've seen since i've been a fan. They literally couldn't stop anyone.

So what does it say about said person who clicks on brainless thread?

Its not about Romo per se. Its about where he ranks against Cowboy QB's.....he's not on Staubach and AIkman level yet. He's surpassed Romo for now.

Agreed. But when he was on man could he fling it around the yard. Wish he had more time with the all star O-line before his injuries caught up with him.
It was fun watching him work at times, yeah. But it was just his time. He had a few shots. I'll never forget the bills game where he threw 5 ints and won.

Hold it.
You think Dak has surpassed Tony Romo? As in, Dak 2022 is better than Romo at his best?
Really?
Did you think that before this game? or did that one game make you change your ranking?

Honest questions.
I've always pulled for both, but I'm just don't see that at all.
No issue with disagreeing though. Not the end of the world.
