I love 'em both. They're not competing with each other.

They had the 14th ranked offense and the 17th ranked defense in 2007….
Did the point just fly over year head? The defense played like a #1 in points allowed defense in the playoffs when it mattered. They made Eli’s job much easier. It’s why they beat both the Cowboys and the 18-0 Patriots in the SB that year. To say Eli was primarily responsible because he played beyond himself is not only rewriting history it’s totally false. Yes Eli drove the field for the winning TD, but I just watched it the other day on the YouTube and that drive had so many chances to fail that somehow Eli seemed to have just lucked out of. Nevertheless, it’s also proof that defense wins more championships than offense.

I never said Eli was primarily responsible…..he was a big reason why they won….

The 07 team had 13 pro bowlers and the 09 team finished the regular season with back to back shutouts. Only the 09 team won a playoff game.
So you agree he had talented teams but couldn't get it done in the playoffs

You don't really think those guys were all Pro Bowlers do you.
Come on.
That was back when the fans voted them in and the voting was done mid season.
Dallas took off smoking early in the year and were all the rave.
It was a popularity contest and a joke

That WAS a great team though. It was also Romo's 1st full years as a starter. I'm sure he'd have liked to have those guys 5 years later.
He had the talent so stop making excuses. It's not like he was a rookie, how many years had Romo been in the league in 07?

I always love it when some fans cherry pick certain seasons or stats to disparage Romo as to why they didn't have better success. Several teams have great years that don't translate to playoff success or winning a Super Bowl. By your logic, Steve Young sucks because the 49ers who had great teams in 1992, 1993 and 1995 didn't make the Super Bowl.
Romo never made a NFC championship game....

The 49ers did with Young and he won a Superbowl so that comparison is just silly

He never played his best football in those early playoff games, but the losses weren’t all on him. He played exceptionally well in his last two playoff games against Detroit and Green Bay in 2014.
I concur.

Those teams were a massive disappoinment, including Romo. Absolutely no excuse to not make a NFC championship game..... None

So he should have made Jerry build a defense that showed up in the playoffs. Thanks for making it clear that it wasn't an issue with Romo.
Eli took some pedestrian defenses to the SB.....they were horribly ranked. Can't use that excuse. He had some piss poor linebacker and secondary play. Nice try though.

Look I don't fault Romo for not getting a ring because he wasn't good enough to get one. That's sort of my point. We needed him to be a top 5 QB or at least play like one in the post season and he wasn't capable of doing it. We needed that 5 TD performance that we just got from Dak by Romo in 2007. We needed it in 2014 against the Packers.....it just never came.

Dak has tied Romo's playoff wins in half the number of years. Romo never advanced beyond the division around. If Dak can get one more playoff win and advance to the NFC championship game, the Prescott-Romo debate can be put to bed forever.
What’s put to bed forever is the fact that Dak would’ve been ambushed vs the Vikings and he played at an MVP level in 2016 and had a great Fividional game that was stolen from him.

You can wish all you want Romo will always be the better QB because he had better pre snap reads, was more accurate and was a better pure passer.

Creating new threads doesn’t wish it away.

There…now that we’ve put that to bed forever don’t you feel better you don’t have to post this again in the future?

That’s just not accurate.

Romo wasn’t a disappointment in some of those games.

He had no chance against the Vikings pass rush, he had two TD’s dropped vs the Giants by Fasano and Crayton and played a flawless game against the Packers.

He has a 93 QBR career in the playoffs. If everybody else on those teams did their job as well as Tony we would’ve advanced.

The game against the Bucs gave Dak the 3rd best passer rating in Cowboys playoff history with a 143.3.

Romo had the 2nd best, just .3 above Dak with a 143.6 in a loss against Green Bay after the 2014 season. It is the only loss in the top ten passer ratings for Cowboy QB's in the playoffs. This was the year that Romo was the leading passer in the NFL during the season. The RB, Demarco Murray, was also the leading rusher. That was a playoff game in which no one had the right to blame Romo for the loss.

The #1 passer rating belongs to Troy Aikman with 144.7 against the 49ers for the NFC championship of the 1993 season. Ironically, he didn't play the entire game. He was knocked out of the game with a concussion and replaced by Bernie Kosar who sealed the victory with a 42 yard TD pass to Alvin Harper.

In all, there has been 21 Cowboys playoff games in which the QB had a passer rating of 100 or more:

Troy Aikman 9
Roger Staubach 5
Tony Romo 3
Dak Prescott 2
Danny White 1
Steve Beuerlein 1

Five of those 100+ passer ratings were in a Super Bowl, three by Staubach and two by Aikman.
