bold> Yeah. Dallas' previous ownership (not necessary just Bum Bright) may have kept a multiple Super Bowl winning and appearance head coach a little too long. Jerry Jones rid himself of a multiple Super Bowl winning head coach in short order. For some reason this era we just haven’t invested our draft resources . Mainly because of an undrafted and 4th rounder falling into our laps.
You’d think our ownership would look back in our glorious history for guidance.
Meredith- 1st player signed by the Cowboys
Morton- 1st round pick
Staubach- Heisman and would have been 1st round if not for Navy service
Aikman- overall 1st pick
White- was a 3rd round pick which back then was 53rd overall. Begun his QB career in WFL and then Dallas as punter for 4 years before taking over after Roger retired.
At least in 2002 we used a 2nd round pick on Carter which he fizzled out with drug problems. But that’s our highest use of investment for a QB this Century. Unbelievable!!
I really do not believe Jones learned any lessons from what the franchise accomplished before he purchased it. Heck. He kept re-telling the story of Tex Schramm advising him the qualifications for whomever he should induct in the Ring of Honor, while delaying Jimmy Johnson's enshrinement but telling Johnson he would put him in privately. Just an example of how he acted upon old school Dallas Cowboys thought processes.
