Why all the love for Vaughn? The dude was undrafted. Yeah, so was Romo, but that's a rarity.

His pre-draft profile was eerily similar to Romo...scouts perceived he is high upside, possessing all the tools, a possible gem, but untested, and thus, undrafted. Then we saw him in preseason flash Romo-like mobility, quick release, and quick decision making. Then the final straw: his Christmas sweater. Anyone with the confidence/craziness to record a satire promo video wearing a Christmas sweater and eating an ice cream sandwich has the "it" factor to lead men. Again, not kidding. It all depends on his drive and heart, but if those things are there, he will be excellent.

Unfortunately, the days of picking Aaron Rodgers and letting him sit for 4 years is long gone. Fans want the 1st round pick to start NOW.

I fear that Jerry will be the same way and wait to pick a QB 4 months after Romo retires.

1st mistake would be doing what fans want, 2 with the what rookies get now as opposed to what they were getting it is not hard to sit a QB. Worst thing a club can do is throw a young QB out there before he is ready.

It's not crazy at all. Romo is our QB for the next few years. Wasting a high pick on a QB to sit the bench for 3 years would be stupid. If someone falls into their lap in the mid to late rounds, sure take a chance.

Really depends, I could see taking a QB a team thinks highly of in late 1st or 2nd rd. Rookies are not longer breaking the bank their rookie contract as easy to manage.

When do you think the cowboys will target a qb to groom? Its obviously not going to be a first round stud due to us being competitive the next few years. Which leads you to drafting a QB in the second round and later.

When do we do it, and who do think it will be?

Draft one after Romo retires.

Not to mention that the organization thought enough of him to keep him on the 53 rather than risking someone else taking him off the practice squad.

Draft one after Romo retires.

No Guarantee that we have a high enough pick to secure a top prospect. I think it's wise to develop one now, as opposed to after Romo retires. We did that with Troy and it took a long time to get a decent QB. I'd hope that we have plans to develop before Tony actually decides to pack it in.

This is a weak QB class, especially after the crab theif and Mariotta. I think those two will be another let-down as well. This is not the year to draft a QB early or maybe not at all.

I don't now why, but Winston has the best chance to succeed, maybe because I think his game will translate to the NFL but he has to mature or it will all be for not.

IMO, roll with Vaughn as back-up and look to draft someone in the next couple of years. If Romo goes down, we are toast anyways no matter who we have behind him at this point. Concentrate on defense and another offensive lineman filling in smaller holes as needed.

Taylor Heinicke is an interesting kid. He's a bit small and I would like to see him with a few less INTs but he certainly put up big numbers.

I live near ODU. He's a nice player and put up huge numbers for the Monarchs but I'm not sure he has the physical tools to be an nfl qb. Worth a look as an udfa. Not saying he couldn't do it but I would be surprised. Hugely popular around here though.

But that is potentially a 5 year starter at another position that goes unfilled for a long term insurance policy

and again it depends on the QB you get, Pats and GB are not afraid to take QB. I think because the QB spot is of great importance that I thinking getting a young QB grooming him to either take over is not a bad move. You also have the ability to trade these players before they hit FA should your current QB is still playing at a high level

Vaughan will be special, I think. Has all the tools (arm, pocket presence, mental, confidence, reasonable accuracy). The question will be does he have the drive that the greats display. If he does, I think he has the tools to be Aaron Rogers 2.0. Not kidding. Or he could just be a decent career backup. It's all about what's in his heart...

I agree, he has all the physical qualities you would like to see but does he have the smarts and the heart, I am sure we will get a chance to see, he definitely has some promise.

He's a Chip Kelley type of QB.

Who are the quarterbacks being groomed in Denver, New England, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, San Diego, and Green Bay?

There are only about 8-10 good quarterbacks in the world. Most of the NFL is desperately searching for one. If "grooming" one was the answer, then don't you think more teams would do it?

This is always a pointless discussion. Dallas HOPES they found another Romo in Dustin Vaughn, but don't count on it.

Vaughan has really small hands for a QB.

But then again, so does Romo (though a bit larger than Vaughan's)
