I don’t either but I did around the draft this year.

The staff gushes over him. Said they knew what they had in Bland and feel the same about this guy.
Wow, that is pretty good.

I even feel better about Scott now if the coaches feel that strongly about him.

I know Al Harris really liked him and seemed pretty excited to have the guy in his secondary group.

Im not expecting another Bland but I do like the guy.

Lewis is expected to be on PUP. He broke his foot. The worst Lis-france injury that his doctor had seen in his 35 years in the field. Lewis says it feels like it's a new foot. It's bigger than his healthy foot (swollen) and he's wearing his cleat so that the shoe will adjust to the bigger foot.
Damn…

Tell ya what I’m a big Al Harris fan as a coach.

Interceptions became much more common since he showed up.

x2.

Seems to be he kind of "flies under the radar" around here. In the off-season everybody was really concerned about losing/retaining this coach, or that coach, but I hardly saw anybody commenting on Al Harris. I think he has done a really great job here in Dallas.

100%. The guy is a real good secondary coach. I was wondering the other day if I was the only one who thought he is very good.

When he was a player he was constantly getting his hands on the football. It is nice to see that he’s been able to transition that over to coaching.

From the outside looking in it seems like his players like him a lot too.

He might be a defensive coordinator in a few years. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Quinn hire Harris as his DC once he’s a head coach again. But that is just a guess.

Could be, Harris is an MM guy though. Survived the Nolan debacle. Maybe we get lucky and he picks up enough from Quinn to keep things going here. Things could go several ways in the next 8-9 months.

As I said, if the injury decreases his ability this is not a discussion.

I’m operating under the guise that he will be back to himself eventually. If he’s healthy and back by week 1 I don’t see Scott/Wright/Joseph taking his roster spot unless they have a Bland-like performance. Even then, it would be a tough decision.

Plus, if Lewis is not healthy enough but the team thinks he can get there, then we can have our cake and eat it too by putting him on IR designated to return. That way we can keep all the CB’s we want up until week whatever Lewis returns.

Strong voice or strong words? Mike Tyson had a very weak voice, but strong words. Like “I’ll rip your baby’s heart out and eat it”. Lol
I like the strength of the voice more, I don't like the nice sounding guys it gets on my nerves. I think for him, it was both

Good write-up, OP. Honestly, I saw Tolbert trash Scott, I saw a guy shy about tackling as well at times. Also, I saw some good traits. Interesting to see how this guy does in preseason and TC. I'm not expecting anything close Bland, and I hope Bland takes a leap this season.

Gilmore
Diggs
Bland
Lewis
Joseph
Scott Jr.
Wright

3 locks and 4 guys (bolded) going for 2 spots. Should be a fun battle.
Lewis will start TC on PUP. I will not be surprised, actually I expect it, he will start the season on PUP. Stash him somewhat. I do not expect him back until mid season.

They like their draft picks, so very possible Scott makes it. Yes Wright & Joseph are draft picks as well. But since neither has impressed, is why I give the edge to Scott.
However, we really must see all of them in TC first. Maybe the light goes on for them.

Do not forget Goodwin for a spot either, though it will be for ST's.

Training camp all-stars!!! I agree, Lewis better hurry up and get back, not sure he makes it too long. I always loved his scrappy attitude, but hey

Good point, the Lewis stash looks like the way to go. Do you think Scott Jr. could show enough on STs for Goodwin to be left out? These roster spots are valuable.

Well it is obvious that they want to keep him on the roster and are preparing us for it. All they have behind t is that he got reps with the starters and not that he did anything with it.

I hope so. Goodwin been around a long time, offers nothing at CB. They could save cap space with whatever his vet pay is over a rookie.
Also Wright and Joseph are decent to good, or very good on ST's as well.

Did you just say Eric Scott Jr. will replace Stephon Gilmore?

Please tell me you didn't say that or I'm going to tell your parents.
No I am sorry if I wasn’t clear. Gilmore isn’t a long term cowboy he’s a short term rental he’ll be gone but he’s a starter without a doubt

when he leaves if bland or scott Jr works out there is your replacement now leave my parents alone

As some of you might know, I have been excited about rookie Eric Scott out of USM, and I picked him as my favorite pet cat. I really like his mental makeup as well as his physical traits. Al Harris made note of the fact that Southern Miss used Scott in much the same way that the Cowboys will ask him to play. That man coverage experience, along with his mental ability and his “Quinn type” frame helped me get pretty excited for his chances. Oh, and he has good ball skills and has always gotten his hands on turnovers, which as we know is just something a guy either has or doesn’t have. It can’t really be coached into a player if he doesn’t have it.

This is yet another positive article on Scott since the draft. Just because someone writes that he’s looked good in OTA’s… that doesn’t mean a whole lot. However, when everything you hear about a guy in the offseason work is overwhelmingly positive, it absolutely is a good sign. Like last year with Bland, all we heard was good things about him, and by the time Oxnard rolled around it was easy to see why. He played very well from the first preseason game on. There was never any doubt anywhere that Bland was a great 5th round find.

We haven’t been able to see Scott play in the preseason yet, but otherwise, what we’re hearing parallels last year with bland. And actually, the team has had Scott playing with the first team defense more than Bland did last season. It is definitely a good sign for Scott but he will have to show it in camp once the pads come on.

What I find interesting about this article is the Dan Quinn quotes. In it Quinn says:

"We intentionally took them out, took out Diggs and (Stephon) Gilmore, and sometimes I want to see how guys are going to respond," Quinn said. "Young players, are they going to get tight in there with the starting group or are they going to rise to it? Put him in, see what he can do."

"What we are generally looking for with a player coming in, when you're in line and you're kind of counting reps, 'OK, I think I can go here,' but when you see a guy wanting the moment to go and compete and knowing like, 'I'm balling my fist up. I ain't leaving here,' that's what I'm looking for. Especially for the rookies to have that kind of attitude to say, 'I'm here. I ain't going nowhere' kind of mindset," Quinn said.

"Attitude is really what it takes for young players to assert themselves into these moments because that responsibility is real, to say, 'Hey man, can we count on you when it's there?' and them learning to do that early on. That's a big deal to say, 'I'm down for this count. You can count on me to get it done,' and I've seen that from Eric so far.

"He's just one of those guys, 'I'm not leaving. I'm going to do my thing
.'"

Again, this doesn’t mean a whole lot on it’s own but it is just another piece of good information pointing to Scott being a player in the secondary. In the article, it talks about him already being in front of Joseph and Joseph being moved to the slot, which just shows a little about how the coaches are viewing Scott at this early point.

So, yeah, it is a great sign for Scott that good things keep coming out about him and of course Quinn practicing him with the first string defense is a positive development.

I’m hoping he keeps up the good work and can follow up this outstanding spring/summer with a nice, Bland-like training camp. If he does hit like Bland, this cornerback group will be very, very good and will be set up for the foreseeable future. Diggs, Gilmore, Bland, and Scott would be fantastic. All 4 have ball skills, all 4 have length… it could be a joy to watch.

With the secondary making the QB hold the ball for a beat longer, the defensive ends will cause chaos at the QB. Then, if Mazi and the DT’s can push the pocket, not allowing the QB to step up… it could truly make for a devastating pass rush.

Scott just has to make it happen.

Sounds good, but too often do we hear about one or two good plays early in OTA's and then the rest of the writers simply piggy back off everyone and continue to write about how good a guy looks all the way through.
