BPA at that point was a #1 08 draft pick.

Two of those teams have former QB coaches as their head coach. One of those teams' head coach has as a close friend Quinn's college head coach.
Consistently during the broadcast today, nearly every talking head said that they've talked to scouts that think that Quinn simply isn't very accurate and has little upside (i.e., he's reached his potential).
Does that tell you something?
Boyzmamacita;1476615 said:If he's so great, why did he drop to 22? We know that Romo can play at the NFL level. We don't know that about Quinn. And anyway, we have 2 first round picks next year. No complaints here, although it would've been nice to nab a receiver.
Sarge;1482523 said:Ask any of the regulars here.........I have been saying THE EXACT SAME THING ABOUT TONY ROMO.
His basic mechanics are AWFUL.
I PRAY that it works out with Romo - I am certainly not sold on this guy in the least.
SultanOfSix;1482622 said:Strange. This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone complain about his mechanics. I've never heard anyone on the coaching staff complain about it after his grooming period.
He has a tendency to not be mechanically solid when he's trying to make a play, but what QB doesn't?
Matt;1476544 said:just tired of passing on big time players
When Tom Brady came out, he wasn't a top 10 prospect. He didn't look like one and he didn't play like one. He couldn't even keep the starting position on his college team.wxcpo;1482599 said:These types of arguements kill me and show very little self thought by the writer.Geez the head guys in the NFL passed on him so he must not be that great.
Hmmm you think if those head guys who passed on Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Brett Farve etc... knew then what they know now you think maybe those guys may have went a little higher in the draft? Geez I think maybe they would have.
I'm not saying we passed on the next Brady, Montana, Marino or Farve, heck we may not have even passed on the next Trent Dilfer, but just because the guy drops to #22 in the draft doesn't mean he's not going to be a great player.
I love the fact that we made the deal with Cleveland and got what could potentially be the top pick in next year's draft. We won't know if this turns out to be another Moss scenario until a couple years down the road when we see what Spencer does or until we see who we get with Cleveland's pick.
Sarge;1482634 said:I never said the "coaching staff" complained about his mechanics. I said I have been.
As far as his mechanics "when trying to make a play" - you lost me there. I'd think that Romo would try to "make a play" on every down.

Yes, when he's running around like a chicken with his head cut off, he tends to lose his mechanics.SultanOfSix;1482650 said:Yes, I understand that you said his mechanics are awful. I just said it's the first time I've ever heard of such a complaint from someone, and that includes members of the coaching staff.
When I said, "trying to make a play", what I implied was a outside of what was designed, i.e. when things broke down.

What Brady did was he worked on his game in the pros. That's exactly what Romo did. They worked hard and learned the position. And grew into the quarterbacks they are now. Neither one was worth a top 5 pick when they came out of college, but I'd surely use a top 5 pick on one now.
You can't make decisions based on what you don't know. You can only base decisions on what you do know. And the NFL GMs passed on Quinn like it was nobody's business.
Regardless, that's not why I didn't like him. I didn't like him because he was very inaccurate and made a lot of bad decisions, despite having one of the better QB/Offensive coaches to mold him daily. Quinn didn't improve over his time with Weis. He regressed. That's the problem I have with Quinn. What are the chances he would improve here, if he couldn't do it over his collegiate career under Weis?
So, no, my post wasn't for lack of thought. If you had thought before posting, maybe you would have realized that the argument we made wasn't the only argument that could be made, but was just one of the arguments that could be made. And if you think that what NFL GMs think regarding the talent of a player isn't evidence as to that players talent, then God help you.

I really don't think Romo has shown enough to pass on a franchise QB such as Quinn who has potential to be the next Manning and Brady.. Anyone else feel this way?
I thought we were going BPA?
