If somehow you can get Payne the DT FA ( expensive ) under contract Re sign LVE at LB and Wilson at safety then address RB WR and CB and an OLinemen in the upcoming draft I would be happy ,

I think given the circumstances you move on at RB , bring Davis back see if he can actually compliment a drafted RB .

The problem with signing or trading for all of these elite players is they will cost more than we can afford. A top tier DE will cost $20m APY minimum. Ramsey has base salaries of $14.5m and $15.5m the next two years. An elite DT will run anywhere between $15-20m. How do you account for adding $50m to the current cap and still resign key contributors like LVE and Wilson?

That isn't even factoring in the fact that we still need to re-sign Steele and possibly Pollard this season, then Lamb and Diggs next year. If you restructure Dak, you're stuck with him through the entirety of his contract. If you expect him to take a pay cut, just reference his contract negotiation, how his agent demanded every penny he could get. If you cut Zeke, you save $5m. That isn't enough. If you cut Zeke's pay you can save around $10m. Better, but still not enough. What you're proposing sounds wonderful. If it were possible, every team would be trying to do it.

What they need to do is bring in Payne or another top DT, re-sign our guys, find a serviceable #2 corner and receiver, and focus the draft on the trenches...if the draft board allows it. We don't need all-pro's at every position. We need to fill a few holes with strong contributors and we'll be right where we need to be.

with big needs on offense, I think Defense may have to make due with draft picks..

I think re-signing Donovan Wilson is important as long as a deal is "team friendly." The guy has stepped up

DT is the #1 priority though. It's been too many years since Dallas has had a solid DT/NT since Jay Ratliff? La'Roi Glover? Leon Lett?...it's been a while.

Yep, if the OL has a higher grade I draft him over the lesser DL. That's how you end up with another Hill at DT
I didn’t say that. Go up or down on the board to get the defensive player, but I do understand the importance of O and D lineman,so if their was a no brainer O lineman I would go for that.

THe defense needs just a few moves to stay relatively the same but the offense needs much more.

I agree it won’t be easy, but I would go all in on making our defense as strong as possible. At DT maybe we can sign someone like Suh or Joseph at a lower salary if the ball out vs the Whiners. Maybe, a stud free agent CB or DE will give us a discount figuring our team could be Super Bowl bound, or because we are the DC’s. It use to happen!

Mostly hankins and wilson are free agents. Is fowler here 1 more year or gone? Ab is a free agent too. I dont know if theyll get better or resign them or go cheaper.
Right. It is important to sign Hankins and possibly Wilson. I like Wilson, but he does struggle in coverage at times. He could be replaced by our 4th safety. What’s his name? He played the slot well vs SF. Lewis will be back next year to play the slot.
I would not resign AB. We have way better playmaker’s than him. Fowler made more dumb mistakes than anyone, except Joseph. We can let him walk.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all in on improving the defense. I've been hollering about reallocation of assets away from the offense and building around Micah and Co since the day he was drafted.

Fortunately it's a good year to find a corner. There are some good players in free agency and the draft. It isn't a position I'd spend a ton of money on, simply because I believe an upgrade over Anthony Brown is all they need to become an elite unit.

I bring up Payne because I truly believe a stud rusher up the middle is the missing link. How often did we see Micah, Lawrence, Williams, Armstrong, or Fowler come screaming off the edge, only to watch opposing QBs step up in the pocket and deliver a dart? Payne is an immediate upgrade in run defense, and serves as a catalyst to elevate the pass rush to something we haven't seen in a very long time. Make that happen, and we will see deficiencies in the second and third levels disappear.

Not a fan of lewis. Diggs, bland, are good but little depth behind them. Fa or draft. Def need hankins, he was cheap. Wilson depends on price and if they might get someone in the draft. Oh an they need a MLB. Not huge holes but def need to resign or draft a few guys and things can largely be the same or better maybe

I'm not arguing against your points. I just hope they can build great lines on both sides. Now if there is another position that grades better that isn't an O or D lineman I guess the smart money would be to that route providing it's not a punter. But, what do I know I'm just a guy sitting in my recliner drinking beer and offering my opinions on a message board.

I’m not a huge fan of Lewis’s cover ability. I do like his tackling and attitude.

I agree with you on the importance of the O and D lines.

Enjoy your beer and recliner, I do.

You don’t get it. You don’t understand what a truly DOMINANT D would do. I wouldn’t even talk about a dominant D, if I didn’t think we were close. If Quinn left, I would not have even brought the word up. Coaching can help take a defense to the next level. Look at Buddy Ryan with 85 Bears. He had the perfect scheme for HIS players!!
I see your point and if we could have both I'd go your route. But in the current scenario I say invest every penny into the offense. And DC is still a little bit overrated I think. He won't build that truly 'n all...

But that's just my opinion.

LOL.....We have a DOMINANT D now if we didn't have a turd QB and an average offense(Yes Just Average) we would be playing tomorrow instead of being home watching what could have been.
Wake up man it's a proven fact that our team cannot carry inepto Prescott any further than maybe a wild card win.
P.S. Have you heard of the NFL Cap? I recommend you find out what it entails and the consequences of overpaying Jag players for a team.
LOL, Slick Ric Wooooooooooooo!

Maybe DQ really did not get the job so they sugarcoat it by saying i am back
Of course he didn’t get the job. You don’t interview for 3 head coaching jobs unless you’re interested. While most teams now are looking for offensive head coaches, the real threat was for DQ to take a lateral move to another team who had a powerful offense since he must realize that is his best shot to win the SB.

Need to add at DT and LB depth. Defense really isn’t the issue.

Gotta add on offense
