Regardless of Garrett ... Romo was the reason why Parcells, Phillips, and Garrett had any sniff of success.

I agree somewhat...

Parcells could coach the basics... Wade had half the team to coach (defense)

Garrett ... Infant think of one game where he outsmarted opposing coach. I'm sure there are a few... Just can't think of them.

I credit the coach for completely changing the culture here. That's undeniable and something he can control much more than on the field stuff

That culture is nothing to brag about. It got us three 8-8 seasons and this horrible season. Only one good season out of five isn't what I want from a HC. Especially when you have a top tier QB, WR and a pass rusher.

various:

Kellen Moore is going to have to learn to the screen and short timing game with his arm strength being what it is. He has something but it is no where near ready to start. He should be aiming for Garrett-like longevity as a back up.
Devin Street should be cut. He simply can't play.
Brice Butler has very little feel for the game but he has talent and size. A good project.
We need another safety. Once the rush is past 5 yards I don't expect a tackle to come:(
TCrawford and GHardy have been disappointing this year by a good measure but they are still EASILY the best DL we have.
DLaw is coming on but do not get goofy. His stats are a functipon of the attention Crawford draws inside and Hardy draws outside.
That's the way it works.
Same way Anthony Spencer was never going to be a double digit sack guy without Ware around.
I think Ro McClain is going to be a tough call. He has issues and weaknesses but his physicality raises this defense to someone other than pounded meat.

We are fortunate to have the suck continue.
We played well enough to win today and were "lucky" foe the miscues. We don;t need to drop 5-6 picks in each round.
Because just about everyone we repalce will have to be in the draft.
This team doesn't have big-time free agency spending spree money.

Team quit on him (defensive collapse) in the 4th. Nothing new....been happening all season. Literally he had WRs drop 10 balls today. Bryant out..Beasley..out. It was just a crap sandwich all the way around. Team has been tanking for a better draft pick for weeks. Feel bad for Kellen. He's the only one out there trying to make a difference while the rest of the team just wants the season to end. Ashamed to call myself a Cowboys fan today....

Yeah . . . OK . . .

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

It is his rookie season and at a very difficult position to transition to. Mabye you should be realistic with your assessment?

He actually played multiple positions as a rookie so taking that into account it's not surprising he made some mistakes this year.

A top tier QB who missed most of the season, a top tier WR who missed games and has been gimpy all year, and an elite pass rusher who served a four game ban and is clearly rusty from missing over a year.

Some of you need to go look up the word context

Thought we couldn't discuss certain things

I want to discuss your random thoughts but it would be against the rules to discuss your second point. :)

No it is not... But if you can't figure that out you might be beyond explaining it to you.

That's this season. What's the excuse now for the three 8-8 seaons?

Having to completely rebuild an oline that had been neglected comes to mind. Garrett inherited a slow and fat unit. You don't just fix that sort of neglect on the fly

I think this team has finally broken me. Coming into today I had zero excitement anticipating this game. And I am always excited to watch the team. Today I just sat there like I was catatonic. No emotion at all. the product is just unwatchable from both sides of the ball. I am seriously considering skipping next week's game. I never miss one but this slop fest of a team is embarrassing to watch as a fan. But they get a probable pass from the owner because 9 went down. Which is a joke.

They broke me. I didn't even think to follow the game online. Just checked in at 5 to see some stats.

I am entertaining not watching at all next year. Besides the losing, this team just isn't fun or interesting to watch. Even when we have nothing to lose we still kick field goals. As long as this offense remains, I think my time can be much better spent

Think there's a reasonable argument that the first two 8-8 teams might have been over performing teams, as opposed to under performing ones.

Parcells took us to the playoffs with Quincy and Hambrick. Romo only started 1/2 a season for Parcells. I think he could have had success even without Romo.

Romo saved BP's tail during the Tuna's last season with us. We were headed down another losing season with Drew Bleedslow leading the team.

The season BP took us to the playoffs with QC was magical. He essentially took a 5-11 squad and turned it around to a 10-6 season. But he couldn't replicate it the following season with Vinny Greentesticles at the helm.

I'm jealous of arizona...it's amazing how quickly they rebuilt. There is a possibility they could participate in 2 more SBS than the cowboys have in the last 20 years....unbelievable .

Yet other coaches win in their first year taking over a worse roster than what JG had. You forget he was the OC that kept the "slow and fat" unit and wanted to continue that sytle of OL by wanting Houck as the OL coach. It wasn't until we got Callahan that we changed our philosophy on OLinemen.

So once again, you can keep making excuses for JG but very few are buying it.

Point is Parcells not only won without Romo, but won with a scrub QB like Quincy. Unlike JG, Parcells can and did have success without Romo.

I agree with many that the play calls are an issue, but coaches don't just throw out their playbooks. I don't ever recall seeing a coach completely change their philopsophy, so wishing for a new playbook is a waste of time imo since JG is staying

So an honest question.

When is it fair to judge the merits of the coaching staff? Next year? 3 years from now?

Every week, the staff rolls out the same gameplan, regardless of missing players or not.

The inability to adjust to the skills of the "talent" we have on the field is mind-boggling.

The league has caught up to Garrett's offensive scheme, and he and his staff have done nothing to adjust. It almost seems like he'd rather stick to his scheme, come hell or high water and lose his job, than make adjustments, actually win and keep his job.

On the defensive side, we blitzed the Skins like crazy and won, so what does Marinelli do in the subsequent games? Get away from the blitz which worked.

It's so freaking infuriating.
First thing's first. Great post by BP, it's rare to see a Mod/Admin coming down hard on the team.
Now for this post which I like. Garrett plays it safe all the way around. He plays it safe with the game plan, he plays close games and hopes to pull it out, he plays it safe in the press conferences, I'm just sick and tired of all this safe crap. Guy had nothing to lose today, yet he's punting punting punting. Go for it man, act like you want to win a game. Stop all this run on first and second and forcing your young QB to make consistent 3rd downs. It's like he's trying not to rock the boat in an effort to stay hired, instead of going balls to the wall and taking chances to actually get this team better.
