3) Elsewhere the GM is held accountable for personnel errors. Not in Dallas. In Dallas it gets a "man in the mirror" comment and nightly screaming into his pillow, like it matters in the long run.

Not in NY or Cinci either. Mara and Brown don't fire their GM's as they basically do the same thing Jones does but without the title.

This front office is as responsible for this as Gregory is. He didn't have to come here. I've never been a Jerry must go person but, the person responsible for making the final decisions need to be taken away from the Jones'. I know it's a team collaboration but that circle needs to shrink. It's no wonder we haven't had success the last 20+ years. Jerry proves to the world every year that Jimmy was responsible for those 3 SB wins. I don't have a good feeling about the Jaylon Smith pick. Part of that is my pessimism with this organization. Our defense won't be good. We hardly did much to improve it. Yall can count on #9 to play 16 games if you want. Going into this season and didn't improve the backup QB over Cassell or Weeden. We've been burned by the last 3 guys we took chances on. At least McClain gave us one good year. Hardy is gone and I doubt we see Gregory play for this team again. Can't trust a guy who's failed at least 4 drug tests in a year.

Do they say what drug it is? Because if its weed he is indeed an idiot!!!! If he is addicted to heroin or something hard he needs treatment, but it is weed c'mon dude ***?!?!?!?

I smoked weed like everyday from 2000-2003, but once I left collage and needed a job I stopped its not that hard!

Week minded people find excuses...
Is that the type of player you want to be the cornerstone of your team? When the going gets rough....Toke up:yourock:

Hindsight is always 20/20...but I sure wish they were able to land my two favorite guys last offseason; Jabaal Sheard in free agency and Danielle Hunter in the draft.

Even without Lawrence, Sheard could've started at LDE & Hunter at RDE. Hopefully one or two of the young guys can step up (Mayowa, Irving, Tapper, Russell).

Wish Gregory the best as he just had a baby, for his own long-term prospects/health, etc. That said, not sure he see's much (if any), time with the Cowboys at this point. The young man simply has some serious issues...testing positive at the combine, failing multiple tests leading to a suspension, failing another test while on suspension, etc. Certainly not looking good.

Wonder if they'll begin to look for potential trade options?

Sheard was my pet cat too. Of course, the Pats got him.

This should add 10 games to his suspension, totaling 14 games so he won't get credit for the season. He will now be a RFA when his contract is up. He has 2017-2019 to not be a screwup for cheap.

My guess is they won't play or practice him at all this season to reinforce whatever coping habits he has to change/develop as long as possible without outside stress (ie injury in practice or game), and if he manages to make it 13 months without another positive test (next year's training camp and preseason until final cuts), they might keep him past then. That'd be my line in the sand. The next positive test is indefinite suspension, and he would then become an ERFA when his contract is up. Who gives a crap at that point, though. Any body to be found on the 90 man roster limit would be more useful having a fresh multi-year contract vs singles and no drug histories.

One, he will never quit smoking long enough to have a career. Two, he will never develop as a player by never being on the field. He'll basically be a third year rookie if by some magical way he can start passing drug tests. He'll be out of football shape and lacking in development. He's basically done.

Cut him. He's Aldon Smith 2.0,talented yet troubled.Never will reach potential.
Getting high is more important than staying employed.
Cannot be counted on.

Why all the turmoil?
Whatever we were doing for the first quarter of the season will just have to be good enough. We know DLaw can play, so if this happened to him, I'd be devistated, but Gregory?

I'm not happy, but we are talking about a guy we simply hoped could contribute at DE this season; we actually hadn't seen him accomplish anything positive in a real football game.

Hindsight is always 20/20

It is not a hindsight issue when the troubles are clearly evident. Taking chances on players with documented character issues is not the same as taking a player and having them bust out due to injury or even misevaluating talent.

These moves are calculated and deliberate gambles. Last I have checked, it is not really a league where organizations that constantly swing for the fences are winning a whole lot of substance.

Second rounders should be borderline locks to be major long term contributors. The hit rate should be enormous.
Yet Dallas just keeps using them like lotto tickets.
That alone is possibly the main reason they aren't much better. Just add them up the last 8 or so years and see how miserable it's been.

So, he is either dependent on marijuana, mentally ill or just plain stupid.

Or could he be going for the hat trick?

It can & has worked out in the past with troubled players in various organizations. An example with one team; the Chiefs more recently selected Justin Houston (failed drug test at combine...pot like Gregory), & Marcus Peters (dismissed from college team). Are they all gambles? Certainly. Sometimes rolling the dice works out, and sometimes it doesn't. Unfortunately, the Cowboys have been on the losing end more often than not...particularly lately and on the defensive side of the ball.

Hindsight would also illustrate whom I wanted/was available...vs. who the Cowboys signed/selected.

That is two players the Chiefs have gambled on. Two. You could make a substantial list of them during Jerry Jones' tenure.

Part of the game dictates you will have to gamble on character risks from time to time. It is part of the nature of the demographic pool.

But when you make those gambles in volume and you do them repeatedly as a standard operating procedure, you cannot reasonably have the gall to act like you didn't expect it to happen and worse, refuse to have a backup if it fails.

Wack list. When did he miss on SPayton? You saying he should've pushed pebbles Lord Parcells out the door a year earlier?Because that's the only way he could've gotten Payton.

And I would call McClain a hit and miss. Melton wasn't a miss either. The guy got 5 sacks and helped plug the middle. PFF had him ranked a near blue chipper the year he played in Dallas.

Well I think your grades are wack

We had Payton and let him get away .... we coulda made him Asst HC instead of JGarrett

RoMcClain is a gigantic miss and Melton was so good we let him walk without an offer
