Again, not really sure how anyone would have an issue with this. What's the worst case scenario? He gets reinstated, comes to camp and sucks and we cut him?

The upside here is well worth that.

Wasted draft pick, wasted opportunity to win SBs. If he doesn't make it...

Worst case is he gets on the team, becomes a starter, then gets suspended again...

e hasn't played pretty much at all. He's already a wasted pick. So how would cutting him make it worse? It isn't.

He hasn't been banned from the league, so he still has the opportunity to play. If he's cut, he doesn't. It's just a finality to the situation that ends in a tragedy, both for Gregory and the Cowboys....

Just do it or don't but no more "getting close" updates

I pretty much ignore any "news" about Gregory. When he's reinstated and plays well, then I'll begin to pay attention. Until then, I have to go on past history, which is one disappointment after another, and I don't like dwelling on disappointments...

Wow. Honestly, we have had some good convos, but for this comment alone, I will put you on ignore. I am a recovering addict and there are plenty of success stories. Your comment is not only ignorant, its also disgusting and highly insensitive to anyone on this board who suffered from or knows someone suffering from addiction. Get off your high horse.
I didn't intend to offend you. This is a conversation about Gregory, and pro athletes in general with these kinds of issues.

Does he want to finally play football?

Or is he out of money for good weed?

Both are legitimate questions.

He's got to earn the 53rd spot on the roster. Do not plan for him to be anything, or you'll regret it.

Addicts will virtually always disappoint you in the end.
Yeah this is pretty extreme. He's addicted to smoking weed....not crack. And even if it was crazy....I don't think you can just assume they will disappoint you. He has a problem...seems to have identified it...all we can do is sit back and take his word for it. Either way....I don't feel like we are dependent on him.

You always disappoint in your posts.

True, but I would bet my house he comes in and is better than the 53rd player that could make the roster.

Just don't want to do the Josh Gordon thing with this guy.

He's probably waiting longer to apply so he can pad the "resume" so to speak.

I think Roger has 60 days to answer the application, so it looks better obviously if it shows more time passing drug tests, etc when Gregory applies.

He's just maximizing his chances of getting reinstated. Actually shows a little smarts by not just applying as soon as possible.

If Gregory gets reinstated and hasn't failed since July 2016, that's pretty huge. I'd expect he'd get reinstated. That's great.

Purely thinking of one scenario, if he's reinstated and manages to play extremely well the last half of the season while acting like an adult, it puts you into an interesting position with Lawrence. Especially if Taco gets better and someone like Tapper steps up his game.

The upside is massive here compared to the downside, which we have already experienced anyway.

So he gets reinstated and the Cowboys keep him and low and behold say week 3 he has a bad game and his addiction gets the better part of him and then he fails a drug test and gets banned for life. But the Cowboys already wasted a roster spot on him and there are no suitable DE's lying in waiting to be picked up but wait they had one in camp but cut him to keep Gregory but that player was signed after getting cut. Let some other team run the risk that he won't regress back to drugs. It's not like he would be the 1st "former" drug addict that slipped and fell beck into using. When he was first suspended I read an article that said nearly 70% of all addicts at some point start using again at least 1 time after going someplace for treatment.

Just don't want to do the Josh Gordon thing with this guy.

When Gordon returned last year, you could see his impact immediately with the Browns.
Expect the same from Gregory. He will contribute.
