that would be interesting, with the prescription cough syrup and other cough suppressives.. even over the counter substances such as Nyquil has been under some scrutinity as I had heard in the past from ex-players. That's how tight and strict NFL policy has been in the past, Nothing like the NBA.

Just changing the rules does not invalidate the old one. And he had his misconduct at the time the old rule was decisive.

The only way he gets reinstated is when they also declare that the old rule was wrong - which they never will do. Or they give amnesty to him. Which i nowhere have read of.

Yes many people use weed for pain or other medical conditions like cancer and glaucoma but none of those people are playing a extreme contact sport. You also omitted the fact that medical studies have proven that using weed slows reflexes and affects memory both very much needed for football. Should employers that employee people that use heavy equipment stop testing for drug use that includes weed? Those policies are there for the safety of the employees. It's not being on any high horse if you understand why there are policies against using weed or why there are still laws for being Under the Influence while driving or DUI.

I still have nightmares when thinking about the movie reefer madness. and I don't think anyone here or in the nfl is espousing the use of pot while on the job. that's stretching the argument to the point of absurdity.

the vibe I always heard was there was a big difference between Gregory's effort and drive ....vs David Irving's effort.
And Irving hasn't been clinically diagnosed with an mental disorder that leads to weed addiction (as Randy is)

Football isn't important to him and he was comfortable with just doing enough to get by as a player on the field.
Even impressions from current players didn't seem like they thought Irving had a passion and really was committed to football.

I also think besides being a terrific edge rusher, the current "insiders' from Cowboys star, and yes that includes management team, maybe even Leon Lett who is still a big part of the DL unit.

- Gregory is still gonna be a considering factor in returning to the fray with McCarthy. That's what I believe.
But we'll have to re-start him from scratch, from the same rotation end that he left the team as.
make him start from the ground and work his way up the ladder.

- Having a Quinn/Gregory tandem sounds intriguing, but Gregory still has to be considered more of a luxury, than a guy that can be counted on.

Kidding, if you read the articles about his last suspension he was working out during his suspension and the time away was more about his mental health and trying to get his Bipolar Disorder under control. Its not a Manziel thing where he is just a loser, I would bet that this last time period is more about the big picture than trying to keep Gregory away from weed.

I read Hollywood Henderson's book but it was years ago. My memory is that he said he played after doing Coke, which is a lot different than Cannabis. I would bet LT was the same. I don't care about Josh Gordon as an example because he is the type of addictive personality that would wash out of a fast food job, much less the NFL.

we dunno why he never applied for reinstatement, could well be he had another "episode".. ..another " hiccup" that had
a major factor in him not feeling he's ready to play.

Yup. Scandrick was the beneficiary of a drug policy change several years back, IIRC. I believe he got a reduced suspension when new rules became effective.

Just how exactly will football be so much better if players can't be suspended for weed when it's only legal for 7 teams that are in those states that it's not illegal to use? So you're and the league will be saying is that the league supports players that break the law in the states that most of the teams are located? Maybe then the NFLPA should also get the personal conduct policy removed and get all the money back to the player fines for those that have gotten drunk and were convicted for DWI and then suspended by the league under the personal conduct policy. Or how about the players that were suspended for breaking the law of spousal abuse? Should they get their money back? If other employers can terminate employees that fail drug test should all employers just stop their policy against the use of weed? The courts have already ruled that employers that are in the states where weed is legal can still terminate for use if it's in their written policy. I work for a company that can and does terminate for use and it's probably been 10 years since I have used because I don't want my boss suspecting that I'm using or my random test comes up and requires me to go pee in a cup and then I get fired.

You must be one of those type people that get offended if I self medicate in my own home. Who am I hurting? Their isn't a state in the this country that cares about that as long as I moderate and keep it to myself. One of my neighbors is a deputy sheriff and has no problem what so ever if I self medicate in my own home. So who the hell are you to object? You have no idea how much of a difference it makes to a cancer patient's quality of life. I'm sure the same is true for these athletes that get there bodies beat up every weekend. Recreational use is one thing but medical use is a blessing. Don't tread on me, man!!!

He was gone for 1 year. They said the same thing last time he was suspended for a year but yet so came in and got some sacks and was as force by the second half of the season. I think we need to see him play before saying what he can't do

His reinstatement is subject to the commissioner's discretion. There's no particular rule. That's why the players are upset with Goodell and his power.

I know how it works.
