we got ourselves another shultz problem. pollard will get tagged and then we will get rid of elliott and draft a running back in the middle rounds and then the running back will outplay pollard. then will all wonder why we wasted more then ten million dollars on a running back.

I think its a mistake unless they plan on using him in the passing game more. I love Pollard though. The fan in me wants him back. But the NFL fan in me says it might not be the best use of money but its not like this team uses money in free agency anyway.

i do not like paying runningbacks big money. elliott has proven to me that running backs are a drain on the salary cap. just draft a running back every year and use him up and draft another one until you find one that you can keep for four years then get rid of.

Nah the tag doesn’t count as a second contract.
So when he signs it, how many will that be?

And it’s absolutely the right decision

Bingo!

It’s a meat grinder position. Draft them, use them, move on.

That's why the franchise tag was such a good decision. You get him this year as the rookies develop, and you have no out-year commitment to him so you can let him go after this year wtih no dead money.

Sounds like a good move to me.

What are the cap costs/savings on releasing zeke?
If you do nothing and release Zeke pre June 1st our cap goes to $9 million. Post June gives you 10.5.

Releasing Zeke and Tyron pre June you are easily over 20 million

This offense cannot afford to lose Pollard, his big play ability makes this offense tough to stop.
Exactly.......which is why I have no problem tagging him UNTIL we find his replacement for one year ( free agency or draft ).

It’s going to be a very interesting off-season, let’s hope we are first talking about that in a few weeks not tomorrow

This would be a good move. Zeke is DONE and even though there's a cap hit for keeping him and his 2.7 yds/carry on the team, there is more of a cap hit paying his 2023 salary and thus Dallas is better off saving *something* by cutting him. And...if you cut Zeke, you can't have your RB room led by a rookie. So, you keep Pollard and draft a RB in the middle rounds.

They are not gonna franchise him with the thought of replacing him in the NFL draft.

..and you can forget Cowboys using FA to replace a core player ..

do you mean the Niners ..? .. or guys like Ian Rapoport ?
I’m referring to the people who are still stuck with their last mistake running back contract.

Or anyone paying big money for a fungible position like running back.

I don't understand this. Cut Elliot and pay Pollard going rate for rb, not a top 5 average. Why do we constantly overpay at this position? Pollard is my choice 100% but not for top end of the market dollar.

Honestly id maybe put the transition tag on him for a second round offer. Go ahead and cut zeke, june 1st cut. Free up money get a draft pick and reload. Gotta cut dlaw as well, let schults walk too.
