He must be overvaluing himself or he would have signed by now. That means it is unlikely he agrees with the terms Dallas is likely to offer.

:) Think he can handle a stutering Jerry with a smile and a beer in hand?

Who played behind Haley & Tolbert. I can't remember anyone.

Depending on the years such stalwarts as Jim Jeffcoat, Jimmie Jones( both at DE and DT) Tony Hill( no not the WR) and a host of other JAGS.

The idea is to give Rod "waves " of fresh players on the defensive line in the hopes that although one person might not get a huge number of sacks, a few will combine to get a number of sacks.

Although so far I am not sure we will be able to produce waves with some of these players and might be lucky to produce ripples.

BP question when I first heard that Coach Rod wanted waves I thought good our guys will be fresh then I believe it started on a Sundaynight game against the Eagles they played no huddle and so did other teams against us. How do you get your waves on when teams run no huddle?

Forgot about Jeffcoat but he did leave at some point for Bills. Jones was strictly a DT from what I remember. Hill was one of the Jags.

Man o man...if some of that signs as well...

Talk about targets of opportunity and improvements getting mixed into the roster from the draft. Wow, and nothing that wasn't on a budget. Go figure, huh...must be some good management hitting the scoreboard.

Goldson is trash. He's probably not better than Church.

Call a time out, fake an injury or hope for a penalty. :p

Not necessarily. If the money was out there he would have signed, what happens with these 2nd tier FAs is now they're getting to the point where they realize they're not gonna cash in. The next important factor is fit. Jones probably sees that he'd have a lock at LE for us and he'll have plenty of opportunity on a short term deal to try and boost his value next time he hits the market. Marinelli's scheme should give him plenty of opportunity to rack up sacks.

Questions to ponder are:
  1. Is Jones a better option than Mincey?
  2. Can Jones play on the left side allowing Lawrence to switch to the right?
  3. Can he start from day one?
If the answer is yes to all of the above, he is a reasonable option for the right price.

Lions free-agent profile: Jason Jones is a simple solution at defensive end
By Jeremy Reisman@DetroitOnLion on Feb 23, 2016, 10:00a 146

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

Should the Detroit Lions re-sign Jason Jones?

2015 stats
15 games (15 starts) | 31 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 pass defended

How he joined the Detroit Lions
Jones signed a three-year deal back in March of 2013 after a one-year stint with theSeattle Seahawks.

Case for re-signing him
Jones actually had more tackles in 2015 than his previous three years combined. Opposite Ezekiel Ansah, Jones was easily the Lions' second-best defensive end on the roster. With only two ends currently signed for the 2016 season (Ansah and Devin Taylor), Jones would be an inexpensive option with plenty of experience. Jones comes with experience, moderate talent and even a positive PFF score in 2015 (+1.1 run defense, +5.4 pass rush).

Case against re-signing him
Jones will be 30 before the season starts and if the Lions committed to Jones for another contract, they would be filling a need with a stop-gap, declining player. Jones isn't a bad option as the Lions' left defensive end, but he also feels like a backup plan.

Final verdict
Old or not, signing Jones is an easy solution to a serious problem. In the past two years, he has played well enough to rationalize a starting position and he'll likely be able to do so for another year or so. Jones signed a 3 year, $9.5 million contract back in 2012. If the Lions can get him for about the same price or a little cheaper, they should absolutely try to bring him back. This way, they can still take a defensive end in the draft if desired, but they'll have a starter on the roster if the right player doesn't fall to them.

Solid player.

As long as the rapman isn't reporting he is "signing" there must be a real chance a deal gets done.
