Yeah I don’t think Fergusons RAS numbers will ever get as high as Schoonmakers.

That’s not the end all be all. But there are just as many athletes who lose athleticism with age due to various other factors, rather than gain. There are way more variables than just their age that goes into it. IMO
I mean, I never said it would. Of course its not all because of age. You're kind of arguing things I never said anything about.

I’m not arguing. I’m just discussing the differences between Ferguson and Schoonmaker. I never meant for it to be an argument.

I also and just sharing my opinion about the RAS and athletes getting better as they get older between their young 20’s and mid 20’s. And that other factors are involved besides age.

Teams could save a lot of time and money.

Eliminate watching game footage and eliminate the combine and pro days...

Just do the hurdle test...

Rico Gathers might have been drafted #1 overall based in that criteria...
I wanna see athleticism on the field not in underwear on their pro days when their coaches cook the numbers

There's been a ton of workout warriors in the league who never panned out. He's only got 54 receptions, so it begs the question of why he wasn't used more for pass catching. The team saw some traits they liked, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt, but I am not impressed.

RAS (Relative Athletic Score): A method to compare players of different sizes.
- i.e. A 4.4 forty for a 170-pound player is much different than a 4.4 for a 260-pound player.

9.66 Luke Schoonmaker (16th best of 1105 TEs since 1987).
8.40 Peyton Hendershot
7.11 Dalton Schultz
6.74 Jake Ferguson

Yah but i heard on here he was our third string te?

I doubt any of the 3 TEs on the Cowboys roster gets mistaken for Travis Kelce at any point in their career, but how many teams have 3 athletes this good at the position that can both block and catch?

I get it wasn't a sexy 2nd round pick, it wasn't even the pick I would have made had I been in charge, but I sure do appreciate the opportunity the Cowboys have created on offense. They have a chance to get creative on that side of the ball, all while running heavier sets to accommodate the run game and play to the strengths of their Quarterback. September can't get here soon enough.
Kelce had a total of 59 receptions throughout college 45 in his last season and ran a 4.61. Schoonmaker had 54, 35 his last and ran 4.63. Kittle’s season high was 22! The position tends to be underutilized in college!

What freak ran a 4.4 at 260?

McClay's been doing a pretty good job, and I'm guessing the staff is not reading draft magazines to make their pick.
Anybody who doesn't see the athleticism.... that person is blind or has an agenda

Schoonmaker doesn't play like a RAS guy. He's also 1000 years old, so he's pretty much fully developed athletically.

That said, he can go make all of the same plays in the passing game that Schultz did.
Seriously, when all you have to support your contention that Schooney is not just a blocking TE is repeatedly showing his RAS score, you’re basically saying there’s nothing to show.

It’s okay to like the pick, but let’s not act like we have Kittle or Kelce on hands here.

They have to show the RAS scores because they have nothing to back it up on film or his stats of 600 yards with 4 years of college football played. yikes la porta had more than that in 1 season twice

You just never know. I agree though, no one should draft a TE expecting Kelce. The only exception would be taking someone super early like Pitts.

The Chiefs weren't expecting Travis Kelce when they drafted Travis Kelce, 63 overall either.

That said, 40 times Kelce only get the nod by 2/100ths of a second. I wish our guy was a couple years younger but he will finish his rookie deal at 28, and thats young enough to extend.

That confirms my eye test that Ferguson isn't expected to be much of a threat downfield and why the Cowboys were so desperate for a TE.
But, best attributes are quickness and agility. A big guy who is quick and agile is a useful player.

TEs do last. They get tackled by guys significantly smaller than they are.
