The Buddy Holly Story (1978) with Gary Busey. 7/10

I didn't actually watch the entire movie, but most of it. There was too much stuff going on at the house.

It's a shame Holly died after such a short career. His talent was eminence. The amount of great music he created in such a short time is absolutely dumbfounding. I bet he would have been on par with the Beatles / Elvis level of fame if he had lived longer. His death was a huge loss to the music world.

Very true.

The Big Bopper and Richie Valens were huge as well.

Halloween. My favorite movie-watching time of year. Like Rynie, I'm pretty desensitized when it comes to horror, but every now and then a movie can come along to gimme a jolt. In the Mouth of Madness does it to me every time.

Anyway, watched a double header last night:

Frozen: 7/10. Been looking forward to this for a loong time. Adam Green (director) is one worth keeping an eye on. This movie is totally different than the previous entry he's most well known for (Hatchet), but not in a bad way. Good flick, especially if you've been up on ski lifts before (who HASN'T thought about this happening to them?) or if you plan on going skiing any time in the future.

The Poughkeepsie Tapes: 5/10. Horror podcasters have been pimping this (STILL unreleased outside of the festival circuits) movie forever. I finally narded up and...acquired...a copy, ended up disappointed, and can see why this movie has been on the shelf for 3 years. Some effective parts, especially when the bad guy is doing his thing, but for a "documentary" style movie to work, you have to have actors that can sell their performances and this one failed almost universally. It's a shame, because I really wanted to like it.

Would have given it a 3/10, but any movie with Bobbi Sue Luther in it instantly gets two extra stars.

Youre going to have to expound.

If theyre going to break the 4th wall and do the things they did then it needs to be amazing

Yea I thought the movie was like a showcase for Michael Pitt.

He did well, but they went balls out for something and I think they didnt do enough considering the risks they took.

Like a (in white)10 minute scene where Naomi Watts flails around

The Social Network - While the very end fizzles slightly (understandably so) and I'm not sure how well it would work on repeated viewings, this is, at least for a one time viewing experience, a 9/10.

The Social Network 9.5/10

I really wanted to hate this movie. But, I think the movie is brilliantly written. I think Jesse Eisenberg is a great actor, and now I'm going to see Zombieland again tonight after watching his performance. He's awesome and definitely deserves all the accolades for it.

P.S. when they expanded, it wasn't to just Yale, Columbia, and Stanford. I joined in April 2004, and back then, there were only 8 schools.

p.p.s. I still like Inception better and would watch it again. and again. The Social Network? maybe.

Meh.

They showed the trailer for the movie "True Grit", that looks like it is going to be very good.

A Single Man - 2/10. It's shot well. It's acted well. That's about it. Nothing happens in this movie, it's boring as hell. A total waste of time. It's "message" is essentially that every moment is precious so you shouldn't have been wasting your time watching this boring *** film.

Let The Right One In: 8/10. Don't usually go for foreign films but I guess the Swedes are the only people who know how to make a good vampire movie.

Following: 9/10. The beginning of Christopher Nolan's awesomeness. Great movie.

That movie is amazing....

But you can't get the swedish version with English captioning anywhere.

Let Me In -- 7/10

Negatives: Obviously the original was better. The pacing here was a little too slow. The pacing on the original was slow, but it just seemed to work better. If you're going to go CGI on the "attacks", do it well or don't do it at all. If it looks cartoonish, then it's not scary and makes you laugh at the moment that is supposed to be the most intense. Also, the scoring was terrible. I think they were trying to go for a 80s horror film type of score (since the movie was set in the 80s), but they didn't pull it off.

Positives: I was surprised by how much I liked Chloe Moretz in this. After seeing Kick-***, I didn't think she was right for the part. But she does an incredible job. Both of the kids are perfect, actually. Since they're 90% of the movie, they make up for the negatives and pull the score up to a 7.

For people looking for a scary movie, don't go see it.
