Have not checked out anyone's podcast.

Maybe that will change when I get my Iphone.

Its not so scary, once your daughter or someone helps you youll have no problem.

Sounds like your a big Kevin Smith/Jason Mewes fan. They tell quite the story about Mewes and how he got where he is. Start from the beginning, the story is like 5 episodes. Theyve been doing podcasts about other stuff after that but the first 5 or 6 were crazy.

What I do is play podcasts at 2X speed. I get on the treadmill or punching bag and it flys by.

I doubt I need anyone to help me figure it out.

Just never did do the podcasts on my nano.

I have listened to quite a few Kevin Smith stuff on youtube. The story about Prince had me rolling.

I've never done the podcast stuff either, but I'd love to hear more about that duo. I'll have to check it out.

I really liked the first two installments of "An Evening with Kevin Smith", while the third one wasn't quite as interesting.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited to see it too. I was listening to the local news and they reviewed it this morning. They said it was probably easily the film of the year. They said while the original focused around John Wayne's role (Rooster Cogburn) in the movie, this one does not. It focuses more around the Mattie Ross role.

I loved the story about that guy who wanted Kevin Smith to have a giant robot spider in his Superman script and he kept pushing it and pushing it even though it didnt make sense. Then Smith goes and checks out the movie Wild Wild West which that guy was producing or something, and he sees the giant robot spider.

Just not a big cell phone guy. And probably will not use the new one for calling or texting but like the other stuff...I guess an Ipod Touch would work for the most part.

Oh and the spider thing and the wild wild west story had me laughing. Those same interviews might be where I heard him talking about Prince wanting him to film some stuff for him. If it is not and if you have not heard it, it is worth checking out as it is pretty funny.

Those are definitely the two funniest stories he told in the shows I saw. The Prince one being gut-busting funny.

True Grit -- 9/10

I love Westerns, so that might partly explain why I liked it so much. I enjoyed the original, but it was a movie dominated by the charisma of John Wayne and his performance as Rooster Cogburn.

This film was a little more true to the book and Mattie Ross is more the focus of this version. The book is written in her words, and I thought it was interesting that most of the characters in this film spoke like her. There are no contractions in the dialogue -- "I'll" is always "I will," or don't is always "do not."

The girl who played Mattie (Hailee Steinfeld) was outstanding. Jeff Bridges did a good job with Cogburn, but I think some people may have had trouble understanding him (his accent is strong and his speech is slurred quite a bit -- one person suggested subtitles for him ... haha). Matt Damon's performance was a little better than Glen Campbell's work as the Texas Ranger, but that's not hard to do.

I really enjoyed the score. The music was great in the first True Grit, but I like this one, too. It's mostly orchestra instrumentals of Gospel hymns such as "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms." This also more accurately reflects the book, which paints Mattie as a devout young lady who knows the Bible and believes in the triumph of good over evil.

I've read some reviewers say the movie was sort of odd and quirky, but that's the way the book is. The Coen brothers were true to author Charles Portis' original story.

It has some funny moments, some horrifying moments and very entertaining overall.

I'll end with this. I know some of the John Wayne fans don't want to see it. Earlier today on Twitter, I asked Jennifer Wayne (John Wayne's granddaughter, who is now a country singer) about how she felt and her answer was that she viewed the film as a compliment to her grandfather. She did add that her mother (Aissa Wayne) didn't want to see it because she was afraid it would make her sad. Jennifer said she could see both sides.

Westerns are just so rare that it would hard for fans of that genre to let this one go by without seeing it because of the allegiance to the Duke. I think he would have enjoyed it.

It's a very good film that really told Portis' story well.

I dont think Ive ever seen a western but Im excited

Some of the best movies made have been westerns. You should check out the following movies. (I don't watch to many black and white movies or movies in what I refer to as UglyColor)
  • Tombstone
  • The Unforgiven
  • Young Guns
  • The Good, the Bad and The Ugly (spaghetti western)
  • Quick and the Dead (a spoof of a spaghetti western)

I own all these films except Good, bad and ugly. I don't buy many films. They have to be really good for me to purchase them.

The Quick and the Dead gets mixed reviews from people. (some like it, some don't) I really enjoy it. It has a lot of big name stars in it, many before they were big stars. (Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gene Hackman, Sharon Stone) The best part of the movie is the fact that it's a spoof of a spaghetti western. As if the make up of spaghetti westerns weren't funny enough. :laugh2:

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is probably far and away the best spaghetti western ever made. It was movies like this that immortalized Clint Eastwood even before he made the Dirty Harry movies. Then there is The Unforgiven (also Clint Eastwood) This is one of the best westerns ever made IMO. You should definitely check it out.

Young Guns is just a fun movie to watch. Tombstone has one character that absolutely makes the film great. Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday.

I'm about as big of a Wayne fan as you can be, but I thought this one was a much better version. They play out as two completely different movies, and I'm a big fan of both. There aren't enough new westerns these days, and I like seeing movies like this and 3:10 to Yuma coming back around.

I'd have to throw in How The West Was One, Jeremiah Johnson, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and The Outlaw Josey Wales on your watch list.

I haven't seen the first two but The Outlaw Josey Wales is a great movie. Damn near any Clint Eastwood western is good to watch. High Plains Drifter isn't a great movie, but I can't help myself but watch it every time I see it on. Then there is Pale Rider too. That is another good Clint Eastwood western.

You're right about The Quick and the Dead. I absolutely hate that movie. :D I wouldn't say that those actors weren't stars before they made that either....I would say that most of them were fairly household names by that point.

I like the rest of the movies on your list. Tombstone and Young Guns aren't your traditional Westerns, but awesome movies regardless. I like Unforgiven, but don't think its as good as one that you left off of your list.....Open Range.

Other (somewhat modern) Westerns people should check out if they're unfamiliar with the genre:

Open Range
Outlaw Josey Wales
The Proposition (non-traditional Australian western)
The Trinity Series (particularly 'My Name is Trinity')
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Lonesome Dove
Fistful of Dollars / A Few Dollars More

I really liked Appaloosa, but I seem to be in the minority on that one.

I like 3:10 to Yuma until the last 5 minutes.

I enjoyed The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford....but, like Appaloosa, I seem to be in the minority.
