Scott Pilgrim vs The World: 8/10

I liked it. I'm not sure I liked it as much as I thought I would based on the trailers I saw when it was released.

True Grit - 7/10. I've never seen the original, and I'm not a big fan of westerns or the Coen bros. in general so I wasn't really expecting to like this all that much. It's an entertaining movie, but not some huge wondorous experience some of the reviews at AICN would have you believe. The performances are all good, particularly the young girl who is very spunky. The main characters are all likeable, and the film's greatest strength is in their interactions with each other and the humor. It's not terribly dramatic, and I probably would have rated it higher if the ending (not the epilogue) hadn't been so anticlimatic.

So it's a 10/10 movie then? :laugh2:

If you don't like either Westerns or the Coen brothers, and I love both, I expect to be thrilled by this.

I need to see this and Tron, ASAP.

Tron Legacy: 8.5/10. I had to reason out not giving it a 9

Pretty much I can call this a simplistic adventure/action movie, but simplistic in a GOOD way. I had pretty strong reaction to this movie due to the subject but honestly it has been a looong time since I felt this way about a movie, in fact it was the Matrix movies.

I won't kill this with detail but you will recognize the directors biggest influences in Kubrick,Wachowski brothers and Christopher Nolan.

The facets in the movie are just executed so very well, from story to direction to editing this is a very harmonious film.

In a new age of "comic book" movies and other kitschy films that are normally half-cocked and choppy/messy it is refreshing to see this kind of approach that really punches through. I will say there are definitely familiar themes in the movie, and yeah it can be somewhat predictable but it still was just such a well made movie.

Visually you know it is amazing, yes, but I still have a bit of a beef with 3D it is not really worth seeing in 3D and it can be distracting like I thought ,just go see it.

It appears Hell hath frozen over. Theo dissents from the critics.
I really couldn't care less what critics say. But critics tend to, as a whole, like good movies. Surprise, so do I.

Your review of True Grit gives me hope that it's a 10/10, though I'd feel more comfortable about that if you'd given it a 3/10.

Well honestly, it's not really like a typical Coen brothers movie, so that didn't downgrade my score at all, it just lowered my expectations going in. The same for westerns. While the story here isn't really anything better than other westerns for me, the characters were more interesting (or at least more enjoyable) and the movie was more humorous to me than westerns usually are.

Did a little marathon today:

Tron: Legacy - 6.5/10. It's pretty to look at and mildly entertaining, but storywise not much goes on. It's okay, but not mesmerizing.

The Tourist - 5/10. Pretty predictable and generic "thriller." Jolie looks old most of the time, and there's not a lot to the story/action/humor etc. that is worth much effort. Good enough for a rental when you're bored someday, but not much else.

The Fighter - 8.5/10. Very good movie. I'll say right now that I think Bale should be the front runner for best supporting actor and I wouldn't be surprised if Amy Adams and the lady who plays the brother's mom got nominated as well. Only thing that keeps this from an even higher score is that it could have been a little longer and had a little more of the fights included (particularly the Gatti fights which aren't in this at all).

Tron: Legacy - 6/10. The effects were intense, especially the CGI of young Flynn. The plot was weak and I didn't really connect with any of the characters. Michael Sheen's over the top antics and old Flynn channeling Lebowski were mildly annoying. Overall, it was "just ok".

Right At Your Door... Oh yeah, I fell asleep on it... Anyone seen it?

It's been a while since I've seen it. I remember loving the plot but wishing they would cut down about 30 minutes of duct taping and radio fidgeting footage.

Did you see the entire movie?

Are you referring to the new True Grit. I saw the trailers for it. It looks like it could be pretty good. I'm going to go see it when it comes out. (as much as that will probably piss Hos off.) :laugh2:

I'd say Lebowski channeled Flynn first.

I was referring to the new one in my review.

The trailer makes the film look like some huge dramatic movie...it's not at all. It's pretty light hearted most of the time. Pretty short too.

No. I really conked out in the first 10 minutes.
I still haven't returned it to Netflix, so I might give it another go on Thrusday.

I fell asleep watching Invictus. Took two sittings. I thought Morgan Freeman was pretty good as Mandela, but I just found it incredibly boring.

5/10

This film was definitely in need of a pacing pickup, Clint is getting a little glacial in his age...

Tron - 8/10

Exactly what I expected and I enjoyed it. You can see that Disney's intent here was to plant the seed of a new franchise, perhaps to take over for Pirates of the Carribbean since I can't imagine there will be another one after this one. (Penelope Cruz, Really?)

I actually thought they were using Jeff Bridges as a gimmick to get the older fans back in but he was actually in a lot of the movie.

Loved the Daft Punk cameo, I'm a fan of theirs and their score was perfect for the film.
