The Good Son, Ray Mancini Documentary - 8/10
I was a big fan of Mancini growing up and the documentary has a tricky story to tell as Mancini was a former world champion with a great story of his own, but his legacy is overshadowed by the death of Duk Koo Kim.
So, most of the documentary focus on the before and after of the fight, going into Mancini's childhood and his family. I thought they kinda rushed thru his brother's murder and his brother's story in general. You didn't really get an idea of what his brother Lenny was about and his murder still seemed shrouded in mystery. And given it was in Youngstown, which was heavily crime and mafia ridden and Mancini being Italian, you wonder what ever happened to the bikers involved with the woman that murdered him.
What I really liked about this movie is that it went more into Duk Koo Kim and who he was. They got ahold of his wife and his wife's parents. Eventually it sets up for a meeting between Kim's son and Mancini and his family.
They say 80% of documentaries is subject matter and the subject is definitely there, but Mancini also still has that magnetic charisma that he had as a boxer and it draws the viewer even more into the movie.
