Annabelle - disappointing, Liked Conjuring when it came out and thought Annabelle would be close to it or even have the couple from the Conjuring in it. Meh.

Phantasm II - I know it is a cheesy movie (whole movie series is cheesy) but I still love the move. The older guy walking with two double barrel shotguns mounted together in his hand. A bandoleer with shot gun shells and drill bits across his chest, a cordless drill on one hip, a small chain saw on the other hip and he puts on a trucker cap that says Boogie Down. Gotta love it. Of the Phantasm series I think the second one was my favorite.

I would like to see them do remakes of the Phantasm series. I think it could be much better if it is remade.

It was a completely forgettable horror movie.

Yep...but I actually thought the Conjuring was one of the better Horror movies that has been out in some time even with the old school vibe it had going. So I had higher hopes for annabelle which it fell flat of.

The conjuring was very good considering that it was very reliant on old school tropes (no found footage or trying anything new). Just well executed horror.

I think Annabelle was going for the same thing but the execution was off.

This is the primary reason why I skip movies advertised as horror during their first-run in theaters. To me, horror is psychological suspense.

A horror movie should persuade me to believe it is "plausible" but not expected in my opinion. Suspend my perception that the plot cannot happen and then surprise me. I laugh at the majority of the few so-called horror movies I do sit down to watch because the plot feels unsurprisingly predictable.

The Exorcist and John Carpenter's The Thing are two examples of horror movies in my book. Cinematically, both are ancient compared to more recent films. I have seen both umpteenth times and both grip me from beginning to end. I can't say the same for more recent films in the genre.

I'm more forgiving than you but I have the same attitude for the most part. It's why the found footage craze worked so well - it created a level of belief. but eventually it just got too obvious.

My grading scale:

10. Perfect
09. Excellent
08. Great
07. Very Good
06. Good
05. Fair
04. Poor
03. Very Poor
02. Terrible
01. Crap

That's more like it, I didn't want to nitpick the guy but I just read a review on trip advisor where the reviewer claimed a restaraunt was "disappointing" and not what they expected (bashed the place the whole review) then gave it 4/5 stars......

That sounds like a total contradiction. Maybe the 4/5 rating was a typo?

Avengers 2

7/10. I'd say it was as good as the first but I am just growing tired of the characters. It needed more Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Quick Silver. I think Civil War will be a much better movie.

Ex Machina

8/10. Pretty much what @Boom said on the last page. Pleasantly surprised.

You need the mean of a set of values within the scale, not the values of the scale itself. If I rate 1,000 movies, and the mean of those ratings is 6, then 6 is more than likely the rating of an average movie (for me).

Mad Max Fury Road 9/10
Great action flick, seemed to be more about Furiosa than Max, but more Charlize Theron kicking tail is never a bad thing.
I seriously want that music blaster truck following me around town as I run errands, drive to work etc. I don't want no AM/FM radio, satellite radio, I want Mad Max live radio!

The dude wailing on the guitar was such a great part of the movie. Even when you couldn't see the war party, you could hear the roar of the engines, the beating of the drums, and that dude just going to town on the guitar. I just loved the movie.

I loved that music machine. You know you have a special action movie when something so absurd is so awesome.

Regarding the movie being more about Furiosa, I was ok with that. I enjoyed another description I saw about the Mad Max movies and asking whether they needed to all be watched or in sequence and it made the point that you should approach Mad Max as an anthology of a post apocalyptic world and how this drifter Max comes into each of their lives. Don't get lost on some over-reaching plot because that's not what the movies are about.

Made good sense.

Yup. He does his part and then he moves on. A more modern-day and not as well-made version of that is Jack Reacher.

I thought this thread was rate the last movie you saw, not rate your rating scale.
