Slow West 6.5/10
An western about a young Scottish man as he goes west to search for the girl he loves that is on the run from the law in Scotland. He meets up with a stranger that helps and protects him on the journey. It was a decent movie, has some good moments and a little comic relief along the way, but some the performances are a little wooden and story could use better pacing.

Survivor 6.5/10
Great cast with Pierce Brosnan, Milla Jovovich, Dylan McDermott, Angela Bassett and Robert Forster. Milla plays a State Dept security agent that gets framed for a terrorist bombing and has to stop a larger terrorist attack. Considering the cast, this movie should have been so much better, it starts off with some promise but just falls a little flat.

Another South Korean mini-movie marathon

A Bittersweet Life 9.5/10
A mob boss has his most trusted man follow his mistress to determine if she is seeing another man. When his trusted man doesn't follow through with his orders, things tend to escalate. Great movie, acting and story are top notch, much more depth than I expected. The action scenes are very good. The musical score throughout is excellent, just a perfect match. This movie is very well done throughout. There is supposed to be an American remake, with Denzel Washington slated for the lead role.

New World 8.5/10
A deep undercover cop is caught in the middle when the chairman of Korea's largest crime syndicate dies "unexpectedly" Factions within the organization vie for control of the newly vacant seat. Good mob movie, power and deceit with the cop in a very precarious position. Another very well made movie, great acting, story and quality production.

The Warrior 6/10
This is a period movie and takes place in 1375. A Korean convoy of warriors and delegates are exiled by the Chinese Government as spies. The exiled convoy stumbles upon and rescues the Ming princess and must try to protect her from a Mongol Warlord. Sounded pretty good, but overall the movie felt a little cheesy. The performances were wooden and predicable, fight scenes were OK. Most of the movie reminded me of a Saturday matinee movie, not great, but it wasn't bad.

Jurassic World - 8/10

It was pretty good, but I like dinosaurs :)

Of all the JP movies, it is probably second best to me....the original being the best. If you go in wanting good CGI and action, you will get it. I am a Pratt fan too, so that helps.

I recommend seeing it in IMAX though.

A Walk among the Tombstones - Meh...really thought it was slow and boring for the most part. It seemed that they put in the effort to try and get you to connect with the main character but it just did not work for me at all. At the end when the little girl was free I did not really care if the main character would get killed or not. Just did not click at all with me and sometimes I like a mindless action movie but this did not even provide that much action.

Star Trek Into Darkness - I did not mind it too much but I hated the Kirk/Spock flip at the end and thought the scene were KAHHHHHN is yelled was about as lame as you could get for the franchise. I don't mind them changing some things up but sometimes changing for the sake of changing is not good. Also, Cumberbatch is a good actor but he just did not make me think of Kahn at all. He could have been any other (in the previous star trek universe or completely new) bad guy and maybe it would have worked for me....but as Kahn it just did not fit to me.

The Loved Ones - Australian movie with a crazy girl wanting a boy friend. Kind of movie that is pretty decent for what was probably a low budget and quick shooting. Type of movie that might also be good if remade in the US.

Finally saw Whiplash, 8.5/10 Fame + Paper Chase + Full Metal Jacket. J. K. Simmons gave one of the best performances ever.

Inside Out with three grandchildren, daughter, son and the Admiral. Boring but nothing can beat that feeling. Youngest on my lap kept putting my arms around her. Always does that and I just hate it. :)

Jurassic World - 9/10.

I've always been a fan of the series, but inhave to say I was blown away by how good this one was! I think it's by far the best of the bunch. The effects have obviously improved dramatically, but the story, acting, and directing were all first class as well. If you're a fan of the series, I can't recommend it highly enough. And see it with all the bells and whistles too. This film is why we go to the movies.

It was great. I think the entire series is inherently a shallow plot but what can you do about it. Dinosaurs made. People get around them. They manage to mingle. Dinosaurs eat and terrorize humans who believe they have control over the situation only to learn differently; many lessons here. Stars get away to live another day. Dinosaurs basically win in the end so we can have another movie.

Fantastic imagery as you said. Wish we could see the dinosaurs fight each other more but no time for that other than limited.

I love dinosaurs the kid in me says.

Gone Girl - At the end of the movie I did not care if the two stayed together and lived happily ever after, if they stayed together and hated the rest of their lives or if they stayed together and killed each other.

Neither the wife nor the husband were decent people and I decided towards the end they both got what they deserved instead of feeling sorry or connected to one or the other. I guess the only people you might feel sorry for was the sister or the baby (if she was really pregnant at all in the end).

Heck the only part that I slightly enjoyed was the female (my guess she was playing the movie's version of Nancy Grace) talk show host when she was trying to be nice to him and he was calling her out on her bull.

Doubt I would ever watch the movie again.

I think everybody did a good job acting and so on but I just did not like the idea that I eventually had a strong dislike for both of the main characters.

Also If she was such as crazy pyscho girl, do we really think she would have let the white trash couple get away with taking all of her money...really?

Also it would have been nice if we would have had some little touch of the parents after all was done saying or alluding to the idea that she was crazy all along and they just did the stories to placate her in some way.

Oh well it was not a horrible movie, it did hold my interest to see how it would play out but still sucks when you have no connection to a character or if you don't care if the main characters get killed off.

Note to self; self avoid this movie.

It might be one you watch when nothing else is on.

It does hold your interest just to see how it ends up, and the end will upset many (kind of like the sopranos) where it just leaves you hanging.

In some ways it is like the multiple lifetime movies for women but with no happy ending and the woman being just as much, if not more, of a shallow turd of a human being as the husband lol.

Maybe there are so redeeming qualities then. Men get some recognition. American men aren't so bad compared to much of the world. My 2 cts.

That's the one issue I took away from the film. You might have gotten me to believe that people would gave gone back to the park once after a deadly incident, but you're not getting me to believe it again so they're going to gave to gave another story angle in mind.

How about a plane crash on the island. A plain version of Lost but with dinosaurs. I like it. Let's start the book.

Chocolate 9/10

Martial arts movie made in Thailand. A young autistic girl has a sick mother that needs money for her cancer treatments. The mother was a former mob collector but was forced to leave the life. The girl finds her mother's old collection book and seeks to collect the money her mother is still owed, but the mother's former boss is not pleased. The young autistic girl loves eating chocolate and watching martial arts movies and turns out she is a savant. She can learn and mimic what she sees and becomes a martial arts master. I can't believe I haven't seen this movie until now, it's awesome. She mimics all kinds of styles and moves, including those of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Tony Jaa. I believe the young actress was trained by Tony Jaa for a couple years before the movie.

The action and choreography is outstanding, the young girl does a heck of a job. It's a blast to see her go thru different styles throughout the movie. One of my favorite parts is when she's mimicking Bruce Lee, she has his little howls, gestures and moves down pat. The fight with the martial artist with Tourette's Syndrome is pretty cool too, she starts to mimic his style. Some of the originally filmed fight scenes had to cut parts of the movie out because of licensing problems. It had flashback scenes from the movies she watched and had her choreographed performing the exact same moves. Unfortunately there is no director's version with all the scenes intact.

If you do watch the movie, make sure and watch thru all the end credits. It shows a behind the scenes making of the movie and a lot of the injuries during the fight sequences. A lot of those punches, kicks, knees and elbows were real.

I loved that movie. Just great plot and action. Real martial arts even if most were movie stuff only. But a lot were real.
