Poltergeist(2015)

It was okay at best. Sam Rockwell looked bored. I was the only patron in the theater.

Kingsmen: The Secret Service 8/10

Colin Firth and Samuel L Jackson in this fun spy action movie. This movie payed a little homage to some of those old fun spy movies, style, fun, cool gadgets. Fun action movie and Samuel L. Jackson as the lisping villain did a great job.

Predator Dark Ages 6.5/10

This is a fan made 25 minute movie set during the time of the Crusades. Fairly well made straightforward story of a group of Templar Knights dispatched to hunt the "beast" that has been terrifying the countryside. Fun little short movie for Predator fans.

Mad Max: Fury Road. 7/10. I liked it. The machinery was amazing, but no real plot killed it in my mind. It was entertaining, but overhyped I thought.

Just watched this. Better than I thought it would be from the description. Obviously, nothing beats the Arnie classic, with the epic handshake and all.

Yep, it's tough to match the original, but it was good for a fan project. It would be nice to see a well made sequel in the franchise.

I had a mini South Korean Movie marathon. There's some pretty good movies coming from South Korea

The Man From Nowhere 7/10
A pawnshop owner with a mysterious past gets caught up in a drug and human organ trafficking syndicate after he befriends a child in the neighborhood. It's a solid crime thriller, well acted and a solid story.

The Berlin File 6.5/10
A North Korean agent gets betrayed during an illegal arms sale in Berlin. It's a pretty good spy thriller, plenty of deceit, greed and back stabbing. Decent story and good action scenes, but could have used a little more action, a little slow in parts.

War of the Arrows 8/10
This is a period action movie set during the Manchu invasion of Korea. An archer has his family slaughtered and sister is taken prisoner by the invading army. The archer becomes a one man guerrilla force inflicting heavy losses as he searches for his sister, which in turn prompts the relentless elite guard to hunt him down. Good action movie, well made and well shot, the cat and mouse game with the elite guard is great.

San Andreas(2015) 7.5/10- liked the action scenes albeit farfetched for the most part. The CGI work for this film is beyond remarkable, granted most any movie in 2015 is.

Lawless(2012) 9/10- Honestly don't know why I waited so long to watch this film but it's a good one. Star studded cast and a great plot made this an awesome watch.

While some of it was good, I thought much of the CGI was pretty terrible (or at least the blending in wasn't done well). A very mixed bag IMO. I thought 2012 (And a lot of other movies) did a better job.

Spy - 6/10. An okay spy comedy. I thought it started pretty dull and unfunny, but about half way through McCarthy starts swearing up a storm and it got quite a bit better. It's not because of the swearing, just her character makes a bit of a shift and actually gets funnier. Jason Statham is pretty funny in an absurd way.

OldBoy is great, definitely a classic. It's been a while since I've seen it, need to rewatch. Thanks for the recommendations, I need to add them to my ever growing queue.

The entire "Vengeance" trilogy (old boy being the second) is very good...
"The Host", is another good Korean Film.
One of my favorites, is "Friend". Very underrated coming of age gangster flick.

thanks for you list Bpaint.

I keep trying to find The Host on YouTube for free but have yet been able. It looks similar to tremors

Agree with this rating. When she shifts to a field agent, the laughs pick up. Movie starts to center around her and she delivers. Agree on Statham too. His role was funny. Loved the Aldo character as well. Good movie for some laughs.

The Dead Lands 9/10

This adventure movie is about a Maori tribe in pre-colonial New Zealand that was slaughtered by a treacherous rival tribe. The sole surviving male is the chieftain's son that seeks to enlist the aid of a near mythical warrior to help avenge their deaths and bring honor to himself and his ancestors. I really liked this movie, it was filmed in the Maori language and it really gave it an authentic feel, and the cinematography was well done. The story itself is simple, but felt fresh since I never saw another movie about the Maori tribes. The Maori are the epitome of a warrior culture, they didn't metalwork, so their weapons are made of wood, stone, bone etc. The fight scenes are very well done, brutal at times, you gotta whack a guy a few times using those kind of weapons. When they do their war dances, Hakas, their facial expressions and gesturing, these warriors are truly intimidating. There's some mysticism and glimpses of their savage way of life throughout the movie as well. I'd like to see other movies based on the Maori.

7.0/10.0

Like many disaster movies, San Andreas develops its characters superficially. The film allows you to know just enough about each character so you understand why they're in it. Beyond the characters, the movie has good action with solid special effects. I liked the suspense better in San Andreas than 2012, although their underlying plots are not the same.

Dwayne Johnson and Carla Gugino play their roles well enough to drive the movie forward. I thought Paul Giamatti could have gotten more face time as the earthquake expert. Ioan Gruffudd, Will Yun Lee and Kylie Minogue served only as emotional symbols in the movie. I liked how Gruffudd character's karma caught up with him but maybe it was a bit of righteous overkill..? I'll deter to other moviegoers to decide.

I enjoyed the best character interactions between Alexandra Daddario, Hugo Johnstone-Burt and Art Parkinson. Ollie (Parkinson) had some of the best dialogue in the movie and stole many of his scenes. Blake (Daddario) and Ben's (Johnstone-Burt) relationship was believable because it didn't feel forced. Their mutual attraction seemed natural and grew normally from beginning to the end of the movie.

Slightly off-note: I'm waiting for someone to allow Daddario to show more of her acting range. I think she's on the cusp of being more than just a "pretty face." She certainly has the look of a potential major star down pat, with the most captivating eyes in Hollywood today in my opinion.
