took wife and grandson to Glass Castle yesterday. I really enjoyed the heck out of this movie. It was my kind of movie. Character driven instead of action driven. Story was dark however the actors in my mind just were outstanding. If Woody Harrelson isnt at least nominanted for an Oscar then it must be rigged. Brie Larson was incredible in her role and the actors that played Bries character when she was young were also incredible. As I said, if you want an action movie then this isnt it. But if you want to see incredible acting especially by Harrelson then this is one you dont want to miss. I was surprised by some of the reviews I saw after the movie as it was not universally liked. But when my wife loved it, 16 year old grandson loved it, and I loved it, then who cares.

Was gonna see that last weekend. Might have to see it this weekend. You might like the movie Captain Fantastic. Similar premise and superb acting.

Man,that's kinda weird, in a real world sorta way.
Did all three of those flics have the Same director or producer,,, it's from somebody with a real bent twist to them,,, personally I don't groove to those types of movies, they creep me out.

With all the Solar Eclipse stuff made me think of a movie I loved in the 1980's "Night of the Comet" ...I would love this movie to be remade.

Ok, I'm mad. I'm gonna use more words reviewing this film than I have in the previous five or six films I've given ratings to (on a a scale of one to ten).

Nocturnal Animals. 5/10

Given the promise of a Lynchian-type film, it disappoints.

I was very excited for Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, and the great Michael Shannon. As well as provactive directing. I was wrong on the latter.

It is more Malcom Blair and wannabe Shane Carruth than anything Lynch. And I hate to use Shane Carruth in the same sentence as this film (even Blair, but he didn't do Blue Ruin [Saulnier]).

The music is a blatant rip off of Mica Levi. Blatant.

The first 15 minutes are great. The middle 20 are horrible. And as I'm still watching this, it's picking back up again.

But putting a red couch in a drab desert color-scheme, along with some weird dream sequence, doesn't make you Lynch. Horrible reviewing by HBO (but it's my fault for taking an HBO synopsis seriously).

This film gets incredibly lazy at certain points, and both Lynch and Carruth are never lazy.

It had promise, but Tom Ford needs to stick to designing clothes. He killed a script that otherwise could have been compelling.

The cinematography has its very brief moments, so there's that, and of course, Michael Shannon.

But just very disappointed with Lynch comparisons. Get the **** out with that nonsense.

5/10. Lynch is one of the best ever. This film is laid out for you on a silver platter. Just because there's two stories (thriller, wannabe noir) going at once, doesn't make it a Lynchian film.

There's too much cohesion and spoon-fed writing for any of that nonsense comparisons. Lynch makes you think. There's no thinking involved in this deal.

Edit -- Still, 3 points for casting Shannon, and 2 for getting me to give enough energy to write this much.

So disappointed.

What happened to Monday.

Just found it.

I would rate it 9.0 - the story line was in the future with 7 siblings. Where population is limited to 1 child.
This movie was all on Noomi Rapace the Swedish actress. Fantastic acting covering 7 people. - the sisters.

Hidden Figures - True story about some African-American ladies who worked for NASA during the space race.
Good movie and you get to learn some historical things. Little cookie cutter and clean but still good.

Swiss Family Robinson - Old Disney movie...Loved this old one and try to watch it whenever it is on. Sure it is cheesy in parts but still a fun watch.

Blackbeard's Ghost - Another old disney movie - this one just missed the mark for me. Some older disney movies have that magical something that spans age and time and some do not...this one is
one of those that do not IMO.

Rock Star - another movie I have seen multiple times. Parts of it I really like, other parts are just ok. Did not realize it until this last time I watched it recently that the fan in the audience in the end that says his friends call him
Thor, god of Thunder is Myles Kennedy. I love Myles Kennedy in the last two Slash CDs and he has been praised for his work alter bridge (never really listened to them).

Great Movies.

Although Pesci pretty much plays the same character in both movies...still great movies.

I've always appreciated how Pesci can turn that psycho personality on and off. He's a clown in Lethal Weapon and downright scary in these gangster films.

Now I've read he's come out of retirement to start work on "The Irishman".

I love the Every Which Way movies!

I remember going to that restaurant he owns in Monterrey (Hog's Breath, I believe) years ago and he himself sat us and my mother was apoplectic.
One of the coolest moments of my life.

Most awesome thing to ever happen to me and my momma was there to appreciate it even more than me.
Great moment.
And then these old guys, at the community piano, started singing sailor songs and the sheep, outside were walking up to the place and the walls were basically windows...
Damn...

Miss you momma... Glad to have had those moments with you.
