Well, I
did like it better than
The Last Jedi.
As with
Rogue One, they (e.g. Ron Howard) do a good job tying together an unknown part of the story with the Star Wars canon. In
Solo, the audience gets to see exactly how
- major relationships formed between Han Solo, Chewbecca and Lando Calrissian
- Solo's reputation began as far as syndicates, empire and rebellion are concerned
- Solo's general thought processes relating to other people formed
Most importantly, Solo's renown as a pilot was already well-known and this film cements his claim. He ain't bragging, as this film finally showcases one of the legendary moments of Solo's old braggadocio
.
Where the movie left me hanging personally was the utter lack of depth dedicated to Solo's empire and rebellion days, the substitute for Jabba The Hut (Lady Proxima) for the context of this prequel, and no Boba Fett--although there is a mention of Bossk if you pay attention. Still, I liked the movie more than some of the reviews I have read. Some other notables:
- Woody Harrelson is a solid actor for diverse roles
- Thandie Newton fans will probably have a love/hate reaction for the movie
- Transition/swipe scenes, which I think George Lucas excelled at including in his movies (although he did go overboard with Revenge of the Sith) are going extinct in this new era
- This film's droid is almost as good as the droid in Rogue One
- Emilia Clarke looks good in EVERYTHING she plays in
Next new theater release for me:
The Incredibles 2
