Well, I did like it better than The Last Jedi. As with Rogue One, they (e.g. Ron Howard) do a good job tying together an unknown part of the story with the Star Wars canon. In Solo, the audience gets to see exactly how

  • major relationships formed between Han Solo, Chewbecca and Lando Calrissian
  • Solo's reputation began as far as syndicates, empire and rebellion are concerned
  • Solo's general thought processes relating to other people formed
Most importantly, Solo's renown as a pilot was already well-known and this film cements his claim. He ain't bragging, as this film finally showcases one of the legendary moments of Solo's old braggadocio
The Kessel Run
.

Where the movie left me hanging personally was the utter lack of depth dedicated to Solo's empire and rebellion days, the substitute for Jabba The Hut (Lady Proxima) for the context of this prequel, and no Boba Fett--although there is a mention of Bossk if you pay attention. Still, I liked the movie more than some of the reviews I have read. Some other notables:

  • Woody Harrelson is a solid actor for diverse roles
  • Thandie Newton fans will probably have a love/hate reaction for the movie
  • Transition/swipe scenes, which I think George Lucas excelled at including in his movies (although he did go overboard with Revenge of the Sith) are going extinct in this new era :(
  • This film's droid is almost as good as the droid in Rogue One
  • Emilia Clarke looks good in EVERYTHING she plays in

Next new theater release for me: The Incredibles 2

Rogue- Seen this before but forgot the title.
Was made in 2007
Funny how you watch a movie initially and maybe at that time you only recognize one actor.
After watching it again you see a few others that have went on to be in other movies or TV shows.
Sam Worthington - Avatar
Radha Mitchell - Pitch Black (the one I did recognize initially)
John Jarratt - Wolf Creek
Robert Taylor - Walt Longmire show
Michael Vartan - guy you know when you see him.

Although it was not a big budget well known movie at the time, And I also believe it was probably just initially released in Australia

It turns out to be an ok movie.

Group takes a tour on Australia river to see crocks. They wonder into an area that is not part of the tour after seeing a flare.

It is the home of a Giant and ancient Crocodile that attacks the boat. They are stuck on a very small island and the river happens to be part of a tidal water
system so the island is shrinking as the hours past and the tide raises.

So...your standard thriller.

Not bad.

Saw another movie. I have not seen this one in a LOOOOONG time.

Mr. Mom with Michael Keaton.

I remember loving it back in the day.

Not as funny as I remember it but still not bad for a dated comedy.
It's funny to think how big Keaton was at one time and then you did not see him for years.
Comes back in the other guys and then wins and award for the Birdman movie.

I think sometimes you forget how good he can be in a comedy. Just natural.

Dunkirk...

A different style of movie that will NOT appeal to some but IMHO very good.

It's definitely one meant to be seen in a theater. The score is just as important as the action and that just don't hold up at home for it to have the same effect.

I'd just re-watched " THE GREY" with Liam Neeson, it's a rock solid depressing flick ,where he's an overwatch predatory control specialist up in the far north of the Alaskan oilfield shooting wolves to protect the workers&their jet crashes while rotating out & one by one the 8or 9 survivors are tugged apart by the wolves,,,it's really an august month kinda' repeat review flick with the freezing environment, FEUDIAN VIEW RATING: 7/10 ! 1st/ 2nd or 12th time

On attempt #3 of trying to get through Blade Runner 2049. It is painful to watch and the only reason I am trying is due to the hologram gal Joi

I am sick of Ryan Gossling being in everything! He is giving Hugh Jackman a run for his money :muttley:

Upgrade - 7/10

I was unaware of this movie until I saw it reviewed by a couple of my favorite youtube movie review personalities. They were pleasantly surprised, and the plot sounded cool so I went to the theater to see it. It's a revenge flick with futuristic body enhancements. Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus, The Invitation) is cheap Tom Hardy who gets enhanced to find those that wronged him. It's a common trope but executes it well with unique action sequences.

A funny coincidence that you should mention this one. I just saw the trailer yesterday (on YouTube I think) and it looked interesting and had me curious.

Thanks for the review! Maybe I'll check it out!

Tomb Raider - 6/10 - A perfect example of what is wrong with most movies today. Crappy plot, worse dialog mixed in with bad fight scenes and good special effects. They spend millions of dollars on all the special effects and over the stop CGI, but fail to get the basic things needed to make a good movie.
