Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" (2022)

For me it seems to take about 3 viewings of MCU theater release for me to truly "get" the movie.

After the first viewing I'm left overwhelmed by the visuals, which tend to obscure the other parts of the film.

After the second viewing I have a pretty good understanding the story.

After the third viewing I've got the story down and "get" a lot of of the smaller details like the jokes.

I've watched this one once. And that was earlier this afternoon.

And yes, the visuals were stunning–Maybe even a touch overwhelming at times.

I understand the premise of the story, but I'm sure I'm not going to connect everything until after another viewing.

One thing I did catch and like, were the several tie-ins to the Thanos situation and the ramifications from that time period.

6/10

A good, watchable movie. Not anywhere close to being very-good to great IMO but I think after I viewed it another time or two I may raise that grade up a tad.
Without giving away any spoilers, I think it is safe for me to speculate that Marvel and Disney's biggest gamble for their Phases Four through Six is the multiverse concept. It must have a big buy-in from general audiences for the MCU to continue enjoying success on both the big and small screens.

The core audience has a better understanding of all the, literally, limitless tangents the concept can generate for movies and television. Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Mutiverse of Madness and the television series Loki are the best live action examples seen so far but none of the three have REALLY scratched the concept's surface yet. While it is normal for me, I can understand why that that aspect might feel overwhelming for other moviegoers.

New Firestarter. Meh Don't remake a mediocre movie into another mediocre movie. If you are going to redo it, make it much better. Not the same meh in a slightly different way.
I'm guessing whoever played George C. Scott's role (One of the few good things about the original.) didn't do it any justice.

Agreed.

I understand how/why the multiverse-angle could be used repeatedly in MCU.

I think if they push it too far, casuals will be turned off and tune out.

That is a distinct possibility. Not sure if I will end up being right but I do foresee them ramping up that aspect in order to integrate a fair share of upcoming MCU movies' plotlines. I will stop now before going full comic book geek. :p

And I think it can be done well

Patrick Stewart’s return. John Krasinski as Reed Richards.

And poorly

Anson Mount back as Black Bolt (bad reminder) and the other Captain Marvel. People thought it might be a returning Downey, or even Tom Cruise as the Superior Iron Man.

Never stop. I love your enthusiasm, even when we disagree.

Yeah. Well. There is a good reason why the Marvel Comics and Movies thread was created in the first place. :muttley:

I *think* Krasinski may be limited to this single MCU cameo. It would be 'easy' for the multiverse concept to explain why another Dr. Reed Richards will appear post-Doctor Strange 2. The same goes for a possible return of James McAvoy or another actor instead of Patrick Steward. And that one tiny Anson Mount cameo made up tons for me as a fan over that Inhumans nonsense.

They sometimes try to do too much, yes. And I questioned their choices when Phase Four was announced, and I feel that they’ve proven me right.

The folks behind MCU do not need me to spout off about how many things they do well in these moves– And there are a lot! From the special affects to the casting.

But sometimes I feel they short-change the character development aspect...

I get that the "Dr. Strange" and "Wanda" characters have had their character's developed using previous movies and TV series, but I thought they did a lousy job developing the character of other main female character just to speed up the action.

3 of the 5 Rurouni Kenshin live action movies.

I think it has been 15 or 20 years since I watched the ova's and series, but I just found these movies. I didn't know about 2 of them, and watched them out of order. Awesome fight scenes and sword fights. From what I remember they even copied the sword fighting styles well
