Saw this. Did you take the movie to be a hilarious comedy? I did. Especially when he becomes "Birdman". ***! Weird movie.

a hilarious comedy? no... a dark satirical comedy, yes. (also a freaking hard movie to pull off considering how it was shot)
the subtitle of the movie says it all (The unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

The director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, rumor has it, penned this movie for Micheal Keaton, if that gives you anymore insight....
He also crafted 21 grams, Amores Perros, Babel, & Buitiful.... which were all well done. Expect Birdman to be popular during the awards season.

The Diving Bell & The Butterfly (2007)

A horrendous stroke alters the life of mid 90's Elle Magazine's Editor and Chief Jean Dominique Bauby.
We get to see life from his point of view (from one eye) in this amazingly creative film. Directed by Julian Schnabel, and shot by Steven Speilberg's right hand, cinematographer Janusz Kaminski . Brilliant work, based off of Bauby's memoir of the same name...

A father and Son is forced into reconciliation by tragedy. Small town relationships is rekindled.
A little sappy for my taste, but solid.....As Expected good performances by Duvall & Downey Jr.

On a Nerd Note, disappointed by the film to digital transfer for this film... Janusz Kaminski is an excellent photographer, and this just was not handled well in post....

This Is Where I Leave You
6/10
Children seperated as adults are forced to gather for the funeral of their father.
An ensamble cast does not make a great movie. Good for a few laughs....
Cinematography by ASC cinematographer Terry Stacey, Door in the Floor, 50/50, and In her shoes (which is a good watch)

Man of Steel (Superman 2013)

Textbook bad casting. Across the board, even the Superman guy, who SHOULD be like 16 but is about 40 in this film. ***?

So many flaws with this film. It is just horrible.

3.0 out of 18.

It really does create a split crowd which I don't fully understand. The last Superman movie before this one was Superman Returns and that movie was so boring and disappointing anything halfway decent would be seen as an improvement over that crap. I thought the guy who played Superman, Henry Cavill was really good and convincing as Superman/Clark Kent and I loved the action in this movie.

Maybe he would give Superman Returns a 2 out of 18? Being better than Returns doesn't make it good. I definitely found it to be a very flawed film in many respects...but better than Returns.

Well that's not really what I said. I said going into it anything better than that would have been good but MOS exceeded even that for me. I loved the movie is what I'm trying to say and not just because it was better than Returns.

movie was down the middle for me... so I understand both sides....
I felt the movie rushed through his life (two parts maybe?)... and I wasn't too captured by the transformer like action.
but i thought the krypton history was interesting, and superman is supposed to do "super things", not stalk lois lane (superman returns)
also the anamorphic photography was quite attractive for digital... I know some folks felt is lacked color.

edit/spoiler: breaking zod's neck was kind of anticlimactic... but understandable considering the conflict in superman.

I understand that. I didn't have a problem with rushing through his life because we've seen it already in the original Superman. Everyone knows Clark/Kal-El's backstory it doesn't need to be told again in it's entirety. To me it gave just about everything I wanted out of a Superman movie. I'm looking forward to Batman v. Superman and ll the other DC movies as well.

I like to see different directors take on an origin story... that's what made Sam Remi's "Spiderman", or Chris Nolan's "Batman Begins" attractive to me, and made me want to see the others......
But that's my opinion. I am happy that they attempted to create action whenever possible.... and again, i may be in the minority, but i thought it was rather attractive aesthetically.

Both great examples. I love what both directors did for both franchises. Especially Nolan's Batman. Raimi's take was good until the 3rd movie but I'd still take it over the last 2 rebooted Spidermans.

wow spiderman 3 was terrible... but i think at that point it was simply a cash cow for everyone involved.
