I think one possible scenario is that it’s not a matter of deuce being better or whatever.
I think that they have a specific role for deuce in mind. Deuce is going to make the roster and serve specific purposes.
Meanwhile Rico and Malik are battling for the “#2” RB spot. To be the primary backup RB incase of injury or to give pollard breathers.
Whether Rico or Malik is the #2 guy (I think it will be Rico) deuce is still going to have his own defined role.
This is likely why Rico and Malik are “starting” in preseason as they are direct competition with each other and deuce isn’t because he is in his own role.
Got it. So no need to see duece in this top secret role against the other teams best players. Just sneak him in during the second half. Thats a great way of determining if he can play or not.
At least you're not proclaiming hes going to be Pollards backup, I hope thats what you're saying. That comes down to Dowdle, Davis and maybe Jones. So if they are all neck and neck lets say, we still just toss, lets say Davis to the PS? And if Jones is still in the mix and somehow ends up as the #2, then both Dowdle and Davis go to the PS? And since duece cant play special teams, then we need to find someone else to do so, since we just put the two guys who have been doing it on the PS.
Then that leaves duece with most likely about 5 plays a game and nothing else. Thats about what Sproles averaged. But Sproles was bigger, faster and a better player than duece. And Sproles biggest contribution came in the return game.
So you're going to use up a very valuable roster spot for a guy who may give you 5 plays a game? Even considering we have Turpin who can do what duece will be asked to do.
Because whomever the RB2 is, they will be the one giving Pollard a breather.
We'll see how it shakes out, but thats definitely not how Id handle the situation.
