RB expendable Debate

I generally agree. We will see. There are not many 4th overall picks that were suspended 6 games for DV (which we know was BS). However it is what it is. He's one false accusation away from a lifetime ban. Stephen knows this and has generally been cheap. It will be interesting.
Players who get banned from the league dont still get paid.

This is the Emmitt - Barry debate sorta.

Zeke is a power back with good straight line speed. He’s an elite back. Whether he’s the best is debatable. You put a Barkley or even a McCaffrey behind our line, you don’t get the same power, but you get more wiggle, a WR type RB, and more HRs. But you may lose some 3rd down conversions. You may lose the concept of wearing a defense down and DBs who don’t want to stick their heads in there in the 4th quarter.

The point is that any RB can be replaced if your OL is good. Different RBs give you different things. There are probably at least 10 young RBs in the league that would start for us and produce big time, and we would still be winning. But they aren’t all “as good” nor do they all have the same traits. Kamara is definitely NOT a Zeke, but he would be fantastic in this offense.

The fact is that unless you bring in a RB in the 3rd to 5th round every couple of years, you won’t have that great backup that shows you you’ll be okay to let Zeke walk. You need to have that guy on your roster ahead of time.
True.
There also isnt another single RB in the game that defensive coaches gameplan to sell out to stop the run like Zeke.
Teams playing against the Rams, Saints, Steelers are all game planning to take away the pass. Part of Dak and our passing games success is due to what Zeke does to a defense. In a passing league Zeke is the only RB who everyone schemes to stop and yet he is still successful.

Stud RBs make life easier. Serviceable RBs can be found can be found, but they're hit and miss too and can be 1-3 year wonders and you're looking again for another. The Rams sure do seem happy with Gurley. Barkley is the only thing that gives Gints fans any hope for the future. Steelers are missing Bell right about now, during their 3 game losing streak. Brees had 3 straight 7-9 seasons before they found Kamara. The teams that don't have a stud RB would like to have one. Having a stud RB is like having a real #1 WR, you may not necessarily need one, but it's good to have one.

Been seeing a lot of talk about the upcoming decision of what we do with Dak...and rightfully so, as I feel like he’s been incredibly inconsistent but that is another conversation.

What about Zeke? Obviously this dude is the heart and soul of our O. I was on record saying we should’ve drafted Ramsey due to how easy it is to draft serviceable RBs. Not saying we made the wrong decision bc Zeke has been stelllar... but look around the league...

Steelers
Chargers
Chiefs
Etc...

Key RBs go down and life goes on...

Not saying don’t pay the dude, but I think it’s a serious question to be considered whether or not we make him the highest paid RB in the league moving forward at the expense of paying other guys on the team.
Those three teams have far more dynamic passing games than Dallas, on average.
As great as those three backs are, Zeke means more to Dallas than they do to their teams.

Fwiw, I do think if the Chargers get Gordon back, look out. Especially if they manage to catch KC for home field.

I'm not touching the top numbers for CBs, DTs, or OGs with Zeke's contract.

It's been proven time over time that RBs are expendable and are the position most dependent on external factors. Beef up those external factors with the cap saved, and find a value RB in the draft which happens 8x every year.

Bell thought of as a top 1, 2, or 3 RB misses a season and Pitt improves
Melvin Gordon goes down? Nothing changes
Todd Gurley misses a series? A UDFA comes in and makes a ridiculous YAC TD
Saquan plays incredible and his team is still a dumpster fire.
Kareem Hunt(top 10 RB) goes down and they plug his backup in and they dont miss a step. His backup Spencer Ware goes down and they turn to a castoff in Damien Williams and he comes in first start and collects 100 total yards and 2 TDs.

This replacement of performance simply doesnt happen for any other position.

Save your cap $ and draft capital and always go cheap at RB unless an insane bargain presents itself

Get that 3rd round comp for Zeke or trade him prior
Pitt improved? Based on what?

And yet the team found a way to go 3-3 without Zeke last year. These imaginary records crack me up.

Ok then, let's take your word for it

We're an 8-8 team with Dak without Zeke

Happy?

These fans happy with mediocrity make me sad

Yea let sake walk and go back to WR by committee
Those teams you listed all have good QBs and pretty good WRs
I don’t believe our current QB can be very successful without Zeke even with AC on the team

Yes they do, which is a whole different discussion and a bigger problem than what to do with our RB lol.

And if you compare the teams we played while Zeke was suspended compared to when he wasnt, it makes the argument even worse.

Wins coming against the Giants, Cards, Raiders, 49ers before Jimmy G, the resting Eagles.
We actually beat the Giants and Commanders worse without Zeke and we had by far our worst loss against the 5-11 broncos with Zeke.

Well, two can play this game.

We’re a 15-1 team with Zeke.

Happy?

Your examples don't even make sense. Pittsburgh improves? They were 13-3 last year. One missed series for Gurley lol how about him missing games? The two games Hunt has been out KC has scored 2 of their 3 lowest point totals of the year. The Chargers won't go anywhere in the playoffs without Gordon.

Zeke picks up a ton of tough yards and key third down conversions for us that other backs would not make. He's also a phenomenal blocker. Our offense would be terrible without him. Zeke accounts for 40% of our total offensive yards. Any old RB would not be able to do that.

Obviously QB is far more important than RB but to say that great RBs are not that valuable anymore and can be easily replaced just isn't true.
I actually thought that thinking had been left behind. It's been proven false.
