Re-sign Rolando McClain

It is real easy to say get rid of R . Mc Clain at MLB when we have nobody to replace them. You say then draft a rookie and replace him when everyone knows that Dallas is afraid to play rookies until the 2nd year unless your name is Tyron, Fred or Zack. I say resign McClain to team friendly one or two year deal. Instead of getting rid of and replacing productive starters, maybe try getting rid of non-productive ones like Wilcox, Carr, Church, Hitchens, Golden Cock and that sorry fullback first!

That is it in a nutshell brother. Those players you named are the weak links. Get them outta here. I'm so tired of this RKG philosophy, get me the RKP.
Just read a good article about how other things like analytics trumps the old fashion eye test now a days, meanwhile it leads to us having to accept that "Hayden graded out as the best d-lineman last week." I have yet to SEE that week. My point is this I'd rather have a player that have flashes of dominance because that is a motivation problem it can be fixed more times than not simlpy by winning. Mediocrity in talent can't be fixed it is what it is. Just because you put crap on a plate don't make it steak.

Myles Jack is the answer to the MLB position and we should let McClain loaf on some other squad.
Time to get back to Garrett's RKOG process.

I know many people soured on McClain in year two; the suspension and the up and down play, but I would strongly suggest that he should be re-signed to another one year deal before free agency begins.

McClain hasn't had a full offseason with us mainly due to health concerns, but going into year three, I believe he is healthy, at least I haven't heard of any necessary surgeries for him.

His fitment in this defense is going to be better in his third season and he is only 26. Signing him won't break the bank, and it will allow us to focus resources else where, without having to try to find another player who may or may not fit. Let's not create more holes where we don't have to.

It felt it was disappointing when we weren't able to retain Durant and Carter last year when I felt together they would produce a strong linebacker corps. Well both Durant and Carter (Durant already, Carter is on the way) are available this offseason and should prove to be much cheaper than we would have originally signed them for.

Sean Lee
Rolando McClain
Anthony Hitchens
Bruce Carter
Justin Durant
Damien Wilson

That is a great and surprisingly affordable linebacker corps to me.

You can probably get Bruce Carter for about 2 to 2.5 million per year. He has 5 interceptions for us a year ago, and his absence was a big reason why we were not able to get more turnovers. Perhaps he burned his bridges here with the coaches, but I'd like to see him back. He always had potential, and certainly flashed it at times. I would love to see him playing the strong side with Lee and McClain next to him.

Justin Durant is 30 and we could probably get him for about a million per year. Good solid veteran depth.

He's a head case and bad for locker room chemistry. Addition by subtraction.

13th in time of possession.

From the below link, it looks like our defense ranked 9th in TOP (keeping opposing offenses off the field) and wish I could find a stat on how they ranked in TOP in the 4th quarter. I suspect the defense ranked very well in TOP during quarters 1-3 and horrendously in the 4th.

So with that, my guess is our offense achieved their TOP rank by adding up the time from all those 3 and outs - our defense got them back on the field often but the offense did little with the opportunities. By the time the 4th quarter came around, our defense was spent.

We have already seen what Hitchens has and that is not much. There is no comparison between the two players. If you were talking about drafting a stud guy, okay, but a sub-par career back up at best as a starting Mike, please, i'd rather not!:-(

I think Matekavich is a way better pure MLB prospect that can be had in 3rd-4th, and is RKOG. Use those 1st 2 picks on a stud DT and cb/safety. #4 is just too high for a LB unless he's Ray Lewis.

Good run stopper no doubt but, he would quickly be schemed on pass routes. His games may not translate
well to the NFL. Give Jack 2 or 3 years and he may be Ray Lewis.

If you just look at Rolando McClain without knowing squat about football you would think he's a physical specimen...dude has shoulders like Dwight Howard, huge lower body and is fast. He was supposed to be great coming out of college. His down fall has and will always be his passion. I want a healthy determined Ro. If that's not what I'm getting give me someone else. It's that simple.

Hitchens was unproductive?

9 starts, 67 combined tackles, 2 sacks, 1 pass deflection, 1 forced fumble.

Dude is really good depth. Hardly "unproductive"

I was just going to respond as well.

Hitch is a jack of all trades. People are forgetting how bad McClain played for a stretch last year when he wasn't getting paid.

He can stay or go for all I care but only at the vets minimum. Too flaky and still one joint away from a 10 game suspension.

I'll bring him back in. If Lee goes out, which is very likely given his history, we definitely want someone of McClain's caliber in the game. He didn't look amazing this year, but then again there's only so many tackles and things of that nature to go around, and Sean Lee looked excellent. For whatever reason, it seems impossible for both of our LBs to play great at once. Same thing with Bruce Carter. When Lee was out, he looked great, but when Lee was in, he looked mediocre. The only way I don't consider bringing McClain back is if we get Jack. Even if we got Jaylon Smith, due to his injury, he'll be out half the year.

Hitchens is just a guy! When did he ever look like a difference maker while on the field. He is what he is! A back up/ special teams player period. We need better players now!

Backup =/= unproductive.

I just gave you his stats. "Difference maker" - what is that to you? Forcing a fumble at the end of a game? INT in clutch situations? Dude was solid before McClain returned, he was the highlight of the defense during the New Orleans game. He was also solid the final 4 weeks of the regular season as well.

Unless you know of a player that can come in and produce like him in FA, there is no reason we should rush to replace Hitchens.

EDIT: The more I look at Hitchens year, I actually think he's starting material.
