Should and could have waited until the 3rd & 4th rounds to pickup someone proven at LG from a big school and conference like LSU's Ed Ingram or OSU's Marquis Hayes. But, hey, we have to keep cheering for these fools' terrible draft decisions!!!

sorry, I am not sold on him....he is physically gifted. but lacks technique. penalties...16 in 12 games are a huge concern. he has to prove he can do it in the NFL and that's the only way....I will eat crow gladly, by the shovel full when that happensHere is one that I came across around the Senior Bowl....
Smith went under the radar during the 2021 season, but area scouts who cover Tulsa raved about him. Here's what one area scout texted me about Smith, "If Tyler Smith blows up his combine and workouts, he could go top 10. He's more gifted than the other offensive tackles in this class besides the N.C. State kid. Smith is 6-foot-5, 325 pounds with 34-plus-inch arms. As violent as he plays and the fact he can play guard also, I could see someone pushing him up because he's only 20 and smart also. He'll hover bottom 1/early 2 until workouts and then we'll see how he handles process.

Also worth noting what they said about Drake London lol
for cowboys sake. I hope soI saw enough film of him dominating a projected 2nd rnd pick in this draft to feel comfortable that level of comp won't be an issue.
Probably would.Dallas didn’t address DE and LB properly in free agency either. Those two positions had good players available at 24 as well. Would you consider those selections as drafting for need?

The difference is, he's a really good athlete. He can learn.I like the kid. He’s raw, but man he has all the tools, plays violent, strong, smart. He held in space, bad foot work, arms outside the body at times. That stuff is fixable, and he won’t be in space much at LG, so penalty’s should go down just by the move from tackle to guard.
The problem I have is with the coaching, I don’t know if Philbin can coach him up? If someone like Bill Callahan was coaching the line, I’d feel a lot better about the kid reaching his potential.
I agree the pick makes sense now that we know the idea is to play LG, but I'm not so sure he's a natural LT that can just automatically slide over when needed. Also, one of the issues that was a red flag to some was the leg issues that no one seems to be mentioning. Hopefully the doctors feel it is a non-issue. I also don't necessarily think technique is as easy to teach as you say. My biggest problem was I thought there were better players on the board and free agents options are still available so I didn't see the need to force the position. I do agree on McClay. I hope he was behind the pick. I guess we have to say T Smith 73 and T Smith 77After a night of shaking my head, I've looked into this Tyson Smith pick further, and it's really not that bad of a reach pick.
He's not the traditional "project player" that we all tend to hate in early rounds.
Smith is big enough, strong enough, quick enough, and nasty enough to play in the league RIGHT NOW. I get so tired of waiting for guys to spend 2 years in the weight room before they can stand up to NFL defensive linemen. Not the case with this kid. He's ready in that regard.
Technique isn't hard to teach if the player has the athletic and physical tools already. Smith will require coaching, but he's also got Tyron right next to him, and he has very much the same frame.
Smith is a natural left tackle, so he can immediately play at guard, then slide over when Tyron retires. That alone makes a ton of sense to pick a guy like this.
At that point in the draft with what was left, I would have preferred one of the two linebackers there so Parsons could run free. However, this offensive line issue is looming large, and so I get it.
Plus, I do trust McClay, and apparently he like this guy a lot even if it wasn't his preferred pick to fall to Dallas.
Tonight has to make this pick make perfect sense however.

A penalty machine from a non power 5 conference. What could go wrong? Here is my issue…one of many…we picked a guy they said is rated 16 but Stephen is saying he may or may not start. Your #1 pick who was 16 wasn’t a starter in your head. That means project. I don’t get it.
The Boys have 8 picks left~
Give Us:
2 wide receivers
2 linebackers
1 edge rusher
1 corner
1 guard
1 safety
That fair?!
Yeah there's that.....lol.every scouting report had one thing in common. his technique is bad, he is just big and strong, having played against inferior competition and even then he got 16 flags last year...IN COLLEGE!!!!!!
essentially we drafted a project with the first round pick.

The only positive if he plays guard is he won’t get pushed back in the run game like Williams. He’ll probably hold as much though.
