Reality check on Trey Lance beating Day Prescott or even Cooper Rush

They did not plan to give him reps as a back up. Fans need to get over that. If there was a game that did not involve a playoff spot, then maybe they would have.
Like the last game if it was not going to improve their seeding.

They did not protect him like a child. They had a plan and stuck to it. Dak fans fear this now, until he gets a new contract. I can't imagine this place if / when that happens.
If Dak does get a new contract, I will be fine with that as well. He is our QB so I will support him to help the team win. If not, I will sit back and let it all play out.
Let me tell you as a Dak fan I think most of us would rather see him elsewhere with a chance to win a title lol. If there’s Lance hate I personally don’t think it’s because of his chance at unseating Dak but I can’t speak for everyone of course.

They didn’t give him reps because he was raw. They are developing him. It represents how raw he is. There’s a sense of building Lance to be something he isn’t as if people are building him up to tear him down. He’s a raw prospect who’s developing. Before he can fight the final boss he needs to show consistency and then he can go up against Rush.

Yup.

It’s like the difference between “ignorance” and “stupidity”. Ignorance can be fixed with education, but you can’t fix stupid.
Ignorance can’t be fixed with education lol….some of the most ignorant people in this country have bachelors and master degrees.

it doesn't look good that the press is already saying Trey Lance looks inconsistent.
Not sure where one guy’s opinion on X became “the press”, the same guy who said an 8-year starter looked sloppy. Wouldn’t the latter concern a Dak fan more?

None of us will really know what Trey Lance is until we see him in pads against some real competition. Whatever any QB looks like in shorts and a t-shirt does nothing to impress me.

Lance has been a long shot from the day he was drafted. He only started 17 games at QB at North Dakota State and the level of completion he faced was not SEC or Big 12 level. He was drafted at 20 years and 11 months old. He is now 24. He is one day younger than Atlanta first round QB from this year Michael Pennix, who started 45 games in college against Power 5 competition.

What has made Lance intriguing is his size (6’4” 225), his rocket arm and his mobility. So far…it’s not over yet obviously…as he starts year 4 of trying to prove himself, he’s still not proven that he can be trusted with a regular season staring QB job. This TC and PS will tell us a lot.

Finally, as a Cowboys fan, since this thread is about a “reality check”, just for the record I’m neither a “Dak hater” nor a huge “Dak fan”. I’m a Cowboys fan and if a guy named Joe Nobody is a better QB than what we currently have I’m all for it. I know there are very strong opinions on our starting QB and that’s all part of this ongoing discussion. Always been that way. But finding even decent QB play is not as easy as most people here think.

If moving on from Dak means we get better, I’m all for it. I might even support that if a trade could produce something better or even a higher draft pick or even releasing him at the end of this year. But this front office has a very bad habit of paying a few “stars” then expecting them to carry everyone else’s briefcase. Even the chiefs don’t do that.

Finally the “Lance will be the starter this year” is premature at best. If finding a QB was as easy as using a 4th round pick to trade for one, we would see more GMs do it.

Because having a degree makes you not ignorant is exactly what I said…

Nowhere did I say anything about degrees. I guess education means college degree to you?

The irony of this is just too good lol

Two things........I think from Shanahan's view Purdy checked all intangible boxes with average talent and/or Lance on the other hand, with decent athletic ability, had little or no confidence. he shows little or no confidence to run an NFL offense as a starter with starter being the keyword. I am 100% confident Shanahan wanna Trey to be that guy, especially with what they invested. What is even more alarming is Shanahan didn't think he was even worthy of a 2nd string QB. He didn't see enough in Lance to challenge Purdy in case he was wrong. That tells ya how strong his decision was about Lance.

Personally I think the kid's confidence is gone. At this point, It's probably best to forget where he was drafted and develop him like you would a 6th or 7th-round pick.
I agree. Hopefully their trash is our treasure. The potential is there. Or was anyway.

 So another hate on Trey Lance thread? I think most know he is no threat to Dak, only hopeful thinking, but he may be a threat to Rush.
But Dak fans fear Trey. Not that he will takeover this year, but that he could next year, if he looks good and they can reach a new contract.
I like Dak to a degree, but I am ready to move on. Regular season, great, playoffs, not so much.

"doesn't look good that the press is already saying Trey Lance looks inconsistent. No pads, no sacks, and the same offense he learned last year. I don't know what else he needs."

I have only seen reports where he looks very good.

"But we also saw Trey Lance play for the 49ers. He was lost, completely lost."

Only from the fans that hate him on here.

Not a one of us knows what he can or can't do in this scheme.
you need better sources (go find Broaddus latest mini-camp. Update)……Trey Lance has been awful once the helmet and pads came on. Trigger Trey can’t hit a crossing route or WR moving in stride. Football helmet is too heavy for the Skinny Legs.:facepalm:The media is doing a good job on being nice to the developing Lance. Trey Lances arm is already dead…….One read Trigger Trey might not make it to Training camp. Poor Cooper Rush :lmao:

No one fears Trance. I have no problem moving on from any QB, if you actually have a plan for it.

Trance is not a plan. Not even close to a plan.

We currently have zero QB's on the roster for 2025.

After this year Trance will be heading into year 5 of his NFL career with less than 500 attempts in HS, College and the NFL.

That is most definitely not a plan.

I think most of us are realistic about this young man's chances, but for those who are beating the drums that our #1 and #2 are in trouble it doesn't look good that the press is already saying Trey Lance looks inconsistent. No pads, no sacks, and the same offense he learned last year. I don't know what else he needs.

There has never been a successful QB project under Jerry Jones. Only 3 QBs have been successful as starters - Troy Aikman, Dak Prescott and Tony Romo. Troy was a gimme, the #1 overall pick and even Tom Landry admitted he would have drafted Troy if he had stayed on as coach. Tony Romo was Sean Payton's baby, and to stress the point even further that Jerry is horrible at spotting talent, Romo would have been cut if Quincy Carter hadn't failed his drug test. And then Dan Prescott who Jerry definitely didn't want because he tried his darnedest to draft another failed QB in Paxton Lynch. And the Cowboys lucked into Dak as a 13-3 rookie starter, that wasn't by choice. So who does Jerry get credit for? Names like Drew Henson, Chad Hutchinson and Quincy Carter. Winners. And this same GM was the first person the 49ers called because they know how much he drools over project QBs even though he couldn't pick the right one in an open field.

But we also saw Trey Lance play for the 49ers. He was lost, completely lost. This was the 49ers. This was not Steve Young who looked horrible on the worst franchise in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Bucks. Or even Jim Plunkett failing with the then horrible New England Patriots and winning Super Bowls as the franchise QB for the Raiders years later. This is the 49ers, who have maybe the best offensive minded head coach in the NFL, and are one of the most dominant teams in the NFL the last few years even if they don't have a SB win.

Anything is possible. But if I had to put money on Trey Lance becoming a franchise QB, I would definitely go the other direction. Which is sad, because I do think there's a good chance that Dan has played his last year here, and the Cowboys have no viable replacement. We are far from the Ron Wolf GM, or Green Bay Packers, who have the next great QB always lined up.
The fact is that Lance hasn’t played much actual football. He has the best physical tools at QB on the roster. He is the fastest and has the best arm. He needs experience and reps.
